  • why did they change the way Nick and Gatsby meet? I was so exited for that part!!

  • Is it just me, or does the guy playing gatsby look a bit like brad pitt?

  • ROBERT REDFORD!!!!!! Love him :)

  • so awks

  • not gonna lie.....gatsby is pretty handsome (;

  • I hate how deliberately sinister they made their meeting- doesn't fit Gatsby's character at all. Plus, he DID go to his own parties. Jeez. If it's not broken, don't fix it! This book is a classic!

  • what the hell is wrong with gatsby? hes a freak

  • I imagined the looks Gatsby has to be nick and the look Nick has to be Gatsby. Lol

  • Somehow this made me realize how similar I am to Gatsby

  • Gatsby is a handsome guy!

  • why can't people just read the book? it's not even 200 pages. I read it in two sittings over the course of less than 48 hours.

  • gatsby is pretty good-looking ;) lol

  • can anyone tell me at what part chapter 5 is?

  • Gatsby looks soo much like Brad pitt xD

  • @cuixinshi more like brad pitt looks like gatsby haha

  • this isnt how they meet in the book!!!!

  • I thought that too!

  • The elevator was... interesting

  • Wooooow this ruins the story

  • I wish my neighbours held such a party!

  • 2:53 MOST AWKWARD ELEVATOR EVER

  • jordan's so sexy brah

  • While reading the book I always imagined Nick as the hot one...

  • @hjguyfuyfg I know! I imagine him to be super duper hot!

  • I saw the movie in my lit class and every single girl said that they wanted to fuck Gatsby, no BS.

  • @fraroc

    lol my class too xD

  • This is unlike the novel in many, many ways.

  • Where's owl eyes?

  • lets face it tho, jordan would get it

  • gabsty and nick were talking at the table and nick didnt know that he was talking to gatsby..idk

  • why is there a fight ?that was in the book

  • I worked as an extra in the party scenes of this movie and all these years later I'm still trying to find myself somewhere in the background

  • okay the way they had nick meet gatsby in the movie just ruins it..

  • I have read the book, but i still dont understand when Tom hits Myrtle, why do they hug??

  • I just watched this movie because the book has soo much hype.. seems really interesting so far!!

  • What's the name of the waltz at 1:37? It's romantic. ^___^

  • They screwed up my favorite scene in the book, where jay and nick meet >:O

  • I don't remember a fight in the book...?

  • 1:11 camouflage kick

  • the great gatsby continues to be my favorite book of all time. as for the new film, i think brad pitt wud have made a better jay gatsby. i cant wait until the new movie is released tho cuz its gonna be good non the less.

  • is leo dicaprio really playing the new gatsby?

  • @iocean92 Yeah, and Tobey McGuire is Nick

  • wow they totaky failed the scene where Nick meets Gatsby

  • Did you see how that butler took out that huge man? Lol, all of Gatsby's butlers work for the gangsters. I bet they're all packing Tommy Guns underneath their suits.

  • and what happened to the drunk man!?

  • wait wait that isnt how Gatsby and Nick met O.o

  • did bras not exist at the time o.o

  • "What part of the Midwest?"

"I was raised in America but educated at Oxford"

"I know, but WHAT PART OF THE MIDWEST?!!!"

  • @JordanAP96 The exact state doesn't really matters at this point!!

  • @TheWayne8698673 I know, but it doesn't really answer his question!

  • oh god, doesnt any chick in this movie ever wear a bra? its so gross to see every womens nipples in this movie

  • the remake of this movie in 2012 i bet will suck ass. this movie is a classic and should be left alone

  • awkward moment gatsby and tom hahaaaha

  • This acting is atrocious...

  • having said that, i think robert redford as gatsby is perfect. almost exactly how i pictured gatsby in my mind. about the only thing this movie did right - but alas, not nearly enough to salvage it. i'm excited/nervous to see how leonado dicaprio handles the roll in 2012.

  • awkward.....

  • robert redford so hot!

  • Gatsby is hot as...ohhh.

  • i love me some 70s Robert Redford!!!

  • OMG...Gatsby is damn HOT!!!!!!!! Daisy chose her corky husband over him...!!!!!!

  • where's the "old sport"...

  • yeah, they screwed up how they, for anyone that is watching this without reading the book they meet because gatsby notices that Nick was in the War, they talk about a small French town and Nick says that mr. Gatsby sent him an invitation to this party not knowing he was talking to gatsby. then Mr Gatsby clears it up and invites him to go with him on his new hydroplane he recently purchased.

upvote this so people don't lose points on there test for how they met.

  • @DanMizter let them read the boooooook

  • @DanMizter Let them fail, they should have read the book

  • im watching this for the english final exam i have next week.. :P

  • I'm pretty sure that's now how Nick and Gatsby meet...

  • Can you make out what it says on the front of the medal decoration at 9:05?

  • wooowwww !!!! the handsome and talented Robert Redford!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they made no effort to change the script from the book gawwwddd

  • book is better by far

  • Heavesn to Cedric Gibbons! The art direction in this film is absolutely amazing! Paramount obviously bestowed it with one LAVISH budget!!!

  • Gatsby is a hotttiiieeee <3

  • lol hes so awkward.. xD

  • am I the only person who though that was Gatsby who kick that guy ass @ 1:07 the first time i saw this

  • @truegoon45 No, you're not. I thought so too lol

  • This is a role that not even Redford could get an Oscar nomination for. Hopefully DiCaprio will!

  • @daytripperr1965

Alan Ladd got no nod from the Academy either for his late 40's version.

  • sound quality sucks

  • @TheIffy316 welcome to the70s dude

  • well this sucks. :(

  • "I was raised in the Mid-West"-Gatsby

    "What part of the Mid-West"-Nick

    "California"-Gatsby

    "LoL"-Me

  • I Love The Book:)

  • Wheres Owl Eyes freaking out about the books being real??

  • THAT IS SO NOT HOW THEY MET IN THE BOOK!

  • I like the way Nick and Gatsby meet in the book :) it's even funny... but in the movie it's just awkward. =/

  • Their meeting sucks in this movie.

  • Gatsby just isn't Gatsby if he's not saying "old sport" every line...

  • I wished they didn't alter the scene of Nick meeting Gatsby. It was one of my favorite parts in the book. This scene is just awkward and dull.

  • the way Fitzgerald wrote about the rain scene was classic... just can't feel it in the film.

  • Um, one criticism... *SPOILER ALERT*

Where the fuck was the dude with the gun at the end of the movie? lol some security

  • DAISY PICKED TOM OVER JAY?! WHAT THE FUCK WAS SHE SMOKING?!

  • @madtvrox It's all about money and class, honey.

  • @madtvrox

    one word: MONEY

She chose wealthy old money Tom over then poor working class Gatsby, that's why they call men like Gatsby "Devastatingly Handsome" , because in those times old money with blueblood trumped good looks and chemistry.

Plus 95% of upper class women then had no say in choice of husband as long as their Daddys were living, women then had just recently won the right to vote after hundreds of years of being considered property to trade over for business deals.

  • @madtvrox Shit :P

  • @madtvrox money my friend...

  • @madtvrox I had someone who'd lived through the '20s explain to me, in the '70s, how conservative people were back then. Even married couples who were up to a little spice in the bedroom were judged INSANE were they discovered. Married couples! In private! Gatsby was not socially acceptable for Daisy, despite the success he became. Also, working conditions were horrible through the '20s. Americans who are against communism and socialism seem to forget, they gave the workers rights.

  • omg they missed the funniest part of the book! Nick ask Gastby what part of the Midwest and Gatsby says San Francisco...it also forshadows the fact that Gatsby is lying about his past.

  • The only disliker is the fat guy who got punched in the video ^^

  • how would i know what chapter it is according to the parts in the video?

  • the meeting with jay is better here than in the book, it adds mystery and danger to his character, and the bodyguard also adds danger to the scene, that's why i prefer this version of the meeting, rather than the one in the book.

  • Robert Redford looks so hansome, like Brad Pitt

  • yaaaay!!!! finally i see Robert Redford!!!! :D and omg their encounter is so diffrent

  • Ugh, I can just feel the akward eminating from my screen

  • Ahaha the butler doesn't say anything at all.....awkward!

  • AWKWARD =/

  • where is Owl Eyes. :(

the drunk guy in the library. :)

  • how do you do, old sport?

  • I think the meeting in the book is way better. First off Nick seems a bit intimidated as he was lead to Gatsby in the movie and in the book Nick isn't intimidated by Gatsby at all. And it's not Philadelphia on the phone it's Detroit. They should have kept the original meeting...

  • Who is the guy at 8:00 in the book?

  • @SimplePLan4life23 his gatsby

  • Jordan gets my mind thinking shes the kind of girl i go for i would beat her hard !!!!

  • Girls ooooing and ahhhhing Gatsby...that is the one and only Robert Redford. Check him out in The Way We Were. Actors these days have nothing on him! ;-)

The remake with Leo Di Caprio will come in a distant second.

  • derrr robert redford was so hot

  • Gatsby seems all out of character to me. With their meeting I think he seems more awkward than charismatic compared to the book.

  • 4:51 *awkward silence*

  • Gatsby is kinda hot

  • Gratsby look like Brad Pitt =))

  • not gonna lie, gatsby is fricken hott! haha

  • Damn! Wouldn't mind pinching Gatsby's butt.

  • Gatsby is quite attractive =D

  • I thought he wore a pink suit......what a letdown!

  • Wolfshiem you HERO!

  • hahahah

  • Brad Pitt could easily pass for Robert Redford's son here the resemblance is uncanny

  • i am 18 and have been to moder partys like these they some can very fund especially when you can fuck the guest daughters in your car

  • Dear God Gatsby's a looker :P

  • I think young Robert Redford resembles brad pitt

  • @crakfairy I agree :D

  • @crakfairy I think Brad Pitt resembles Robert Redford. Not the other way round.

  • @magnostic

I could easily say that about Steve Buscemi and the late great Don Knotts.....

  • 1:59 young Jack's dad from lost ,

  • Jesus, Carraway needs some more martinis. He looks like he just came from a sauna in the Bahamas.

  • Lois Chiles = FREAKIN' HOT.

  • Pheasant? You know I always want pheasant!

Also, I would gladly give Jordan Baker one.

  • the butlers nod was just creepy.

  • i wanna bang jordan baker

  • toby stephens, didnt fit the role as gatsby. he is to posh, and doesnt come across a bootlegger.

  • JORDAN, IS SEXY.

  • Comment removed

  • @leedumett444 Gatsby was the front man for the bootlegging and not some hood or the muscle. Redford is perfect in this role...

  • @utube5678176 Yes Redford is perfect as Gatsby . . . maintains a charismatic, enigmatic mystique. A fortunate fusion of romantic and diehard pragmatist. So believeable . . . this whole movie is like eavesdropping from a time machine . . . or being a mute character in it !

  • THIS INTRUCTION IS BETTER THAN IN THE BOOK.

  • I kind of imagined Gatsby much different! :P

  • i would totally tap jordan

  • jordan baker is hot

  • Come to Gatsby's place. Get drunk, get into a fight, meet the man who is going to basiclly try to homewreck your cousin. Loved the book and I love the movie. :)

  • do know who has the copy of the 2003 version of the film. I think it is more accurate than this version.

  • @aiuele There's a 2003 version? wonderful

  • Klipspringer is absolutely hilarious... did anyone else see him tango?

  • Meeting is so much different

  • I wish the first meeting with Gatsby was how it was in the novel. Jordan and Gatsy are reallyl good looking I agree, although I expected Gatsby to have dark hair.

  • I thought gatsby whould look more like teddy rosovelt

  • lol, Gatsby's like James bond in this. xD

  • 6:13 loooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • 7:47 WOTTA CAR! best movie ever!

  • Gatsby is exactly what i thought he would look like... hot.

  • this iwas when music was music, i dont knwo whats going on with today's "music"

  • I prefer their meeting in the book!

And I never imagined Gatz to be blonde (:
