  • I very much like the video. I did a few tourism videos on savannah a few years ago. fun place for sure! thanks for putting this online.

  • This is awful. Looks like a Six Flags commercial.

  • James Oglethorpe Rocks !

  • Hilarious! I want to dance in that congo line!

  • Im from Atlanta and this makes me laugh haha i actually wanna visit Savannah right now haha.

  • I was in this video with my husband! We had so much fun that day!! It was our very first trip to Savannah and we were there for our 7th Anniversary. We were in the Riverstreet and River boat shot!!! I really enjoyed Savannah and will be going back!!!

  • Let's see - what is it that I would want to travel to Savannah to see? The handrail on what is probably a riverboat of some sort? The steps of some modern white building (I thought Savannah's charm was it's history)? Some footbridge? A fountain? Some Klansmen on the sidewalk? Random people on a sidewalk outside of unidentified shops - or was it restaurants, impossible to tell. This video doesn't show me anything about the things to see and do in Savannah. It sure doesn't make me want to visit.

  • 1. The "Conga" has no connection to Savannah.

    2. Only those that know Savannah's history & pop culture would recognize most of the "icons" featured.

    3. Ghosts are a part of any"Savannah experience," but using lame sheets? Really? How about some CGI? Plus, using sheet-clad people was bad judgement, considering Savannah's in the South. Don't risk it.

    4. A NON-local firm was paid $15K to make this.

But, I AM excited to see the entries from the outcry-caused competition to create a better video.

  • The description is a lie; this is not a parody. Nope, this is the original Holy-crap-did-they-just-do-that original. This is not the Savannah I know and hope Visit Savannah does well in their competition for a better vid.

  • WTF!!

  • This just made my day!!! I can't wait until my next long weekend trip up.

  • @outbackredd your right imma use ioh deffinaly in my entry i live here and i think the southside is the best part

  • Whoever wrote this turd needs to get punched in the face. And all the morons who wore the Paula dean masks need to get shot in the face.

  • The kid in the batman shirt made the video

  • @redneckman Yeah nothing like a good copyright infringement to set off a video.

  • I love how the woman dressed in late 1800's- early 1900's outfit has a modern car parked right behind her. I'm from Savannah, and my teacher showed this to my class in school, and we all facepalmed. My teacher actually screamed that it was a load of shit. An unborn child could do better. And our Improv troupe in school WILL do better and submit it. We all kinda hate Savannah right now because of this.

  • This video is EXTREMELY hokey (even has the hokey pokey)...embarassing...cringe-inducing...ugh! All it showcases is the tourist-trap mentality that we as a city are trying to evolve AWAY from! Savannah IS fun, but also dignified and cosmopolitan--which could have been combined in a MUCH better way. This would be a great video to promote Daytona Beach or Branson, Missouri--NOT our fair city!

  • Congratulations, you just made one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the US look like a third-rate amusement park. It's unbearable.

  • As someone who lives in savannah this video is a F@cking travesty. What an insult. Makes me want to move.

  • Stupid old 1950 looking video.....I never been to Savannah but I now officially hate it.......No diversity in the video, stupid old fashion dumb city!

  • @TheSlimATL It's ok to hate the video, that I can understand and I live here, as well...but, that's no reason to hate Savannah...Read some of the other comments about this video and you'll see that most people here in Savannah are embarrassed by this video...I read so many negative comments about it in the local paper...and I agree with it being a waste of time. But, it does NOT represent Savannah and IS NOT a Parody of ANYTHING.

  • GREAT JOB! This is a great way to show off Savannah. Savannah is the most beautiful city in America. Looks like a lot of fun to have filmed this too, 5 stars.

  • Mildly amusing but hardly a promotion for the city of Savannah unless, as already stated by others, you're already from the city or at least familiar with it. And Paula Dean's face is enough to make anyone want to pass up on a visit. Bleh.

  • This actually made me laugh out loud in a couple of places! Obviously the critics have no sense of humor. I thought it was terrific! I don't often miss living in Savannah (not because it's not a great city..there are other factors), but this video reminds me of how much I do miss being downtown! Can't wait to see what happens with The Waving Girl!! :)

  • 1:14 used to be a good place to skate. Still is if you are ready to run from security.

  • Spent several days in Savannah last week. Most beautiful city I've ever been in! I love these videos. I will never forget visiting the 1st African Baptist Church. It was one of the highlights of our trip! Thank you EVERYONE for being the most friendly city in the world!

  • This video is the stupidest goddamn thing I have ever seen. Its just horrible.

It barely makes sense. The only way anyone could think this promotes Savannah is if you are from Savannah and think its cute to see your friends. The whole thing is just dreadful.

  • LOVE this! went to savannah last year and already missing it after seeing your video!

  • Being born and raised in Savannah, This video is such a great way to show all the town will offer on your visit. Our beautiful town has so much to do. GREAT VIDEO. Makes me miss being at home, shows a great deal as you jump right in the middle of the conga line while Oglethorpe's escorts you all around SAVANNAH GEORGIA seeing our beloved Paula Deen and the Savannah Riverboat cruises even the carriage tours along with the ghost tour!! ( comment cont.)

  • WOW! Savannah

    Panama City Beach

  • Finally had time to check your website and see other videos; the Story of Sea Island is one of the best I've ever seen. Old Town Trolly Tours does a better job of selling Savannah than does the conga line.

I now know why Paula Deen got so much screen time - she is a client!

  • This is SO cute and looks like it was fun to make! I'll have to watch for info when you shoot the next one, because I try to ALWAYS be a "Savannah character" and would LOVE to participate! :)

  • "To be continued"? Is that a threat? Not that we don't all get a good laugh by reducing the founder of the colony and one of our greatest monuments to a mere sight-gag, but why on earth sum up centuries of intact architectural, cultural, and ephemeral history as just a backdrop for partying?

Maybe in Part 2, an anthropomorphic "Bird Girl" can do keg stands at Bonaventure?

Kudos for choosing a production company from another state. That really drives home the "support our city" mentality.

  • utter shite.

  • I thought this video was a good capture of the beautiful Savannah Georgia. The scenery was beautiful, the weather looked even nicer. Everyone in the video looked like they were having a good time. Great photography. I can't wait for Part 2 !

  • Oglethorpe's color was way off, and the whites of his eyes were creepy. Except for Paula and the boat, hardly anything else was on screen long enough to arouse interest.

And, what happened to the General's scabbard??

  • It appears as if someone decided to target a younger demographic audience, yet - except for the conga line - nothing was shown to attract younger tourists. The 'under 30' crowd shows up on St. Patrick's Day. Did Paula Deen pay her portion of the charges for the commercial? I appreciate innovation; I even liked the idea of Oglethorpe coming to life, but the spot just didn't seem to be focused enough.

  • The next installment should show some of the beautiful colonial homes around the squares and also Ardsley Park.

  • Oglethorpe dancing around Savannah... neither interesting, not educational. All I see are tourists looking foolish, and really bad cinematography.

  • this is what we do in savannah all day!

  • As a resident (of 2 years so far), this captures nothing of what Savannah means to me. I would not send this to any of my family or friends who are thinking about visiting, where's the vibrance? The mystery? Forsyth? This video shows me tourists, people standing around watching something that they don't get, a lot of River Street, doesn't showcase the heart of the city, just hokey music and line dancing. Any other options?

  • I'd like to see a break down of cost to see how it added up to $15,000.

  • @kenpach09 The video production budget is actually not disclosed. That's the total amount of money being offered up in the contest. I can only imagine that the production budget was actually more than that.

  • @ethreemedia No. The city of Savannah paid $15,000 to have this video produced. The contest was created after the outcry of how bad the video is. And SURPRISE the total value of the prize money equals $15,000. So now contestants have to produce a video of equal or greater value for free that, supposedly, cost $15,000 to make.

  • @kenpach09 Sorry, I haven't seen that anywhere. Can you point me to your source?

  • @ethreemedia go to savannahnow.c om and search for "VIDEO: VisitSavannah brings Oglethorpe statue to life in YouTube promo"

  • imo, "Midnight in the Garden...." is a better advertisement for Savannah. At least it's more interesting. imo.

  • EPIC fail. thumbs down. With all the talent in Savannah, you'd think they could come up with something better than this.

  • Hahah, this is so cute. I've always heard that Savannah was a cool party town. This video just confirmed my suspicion! Hope they continue the series.

  • @MsGAGA1974 Thank you! We're definitely looking forward to it! We'll do the next casting call across our various social channels, so feel free to show us how to party in the next video! ;-)

  • This is a great video. Home grown from Savannah makes me miss home. All the locations bring back some of the best memories. Hope people visit to create some of the same good memories. Been away for 11 too long years. Savannah is such a great town to live and visit.

  • Epic fail...

  • I thought this was just plain stupid. It really doesn't show a possible tourist anything great about Savannah. I'm planning a trip there in November. This was not a help at all. It also comes across very amateurish.

  • Why would you want to make this go viral?!?!?! It makes Savannah look like a bunch of idiots! I am disgusted.

"The video shows off how fun the town is without sacrificing our dignity. We’re not a theme park" Really? We have James Oglethorpe as a ridiculous clown? How does that not sacrifice our dignity?

  • People get too uptight about Nothing! I thought it was fun and made me want to go back to one of the most Beautiful towns I know. I wish you had some subtitles showing discriptions of the areas. As one who visits often I had no problem, but others will. Savannah, you are the best! Keep it up.

  • Wonderful sunny fun filled day. Community comes together to joyfully share diversity! I love it. Beautiful photography and use of mis-en-scene. Might have added a nice warm voice-over at the end to tag it. Who's the charmer with bullhorn thanking everyone at the end?

  • @LotasProductions Thanks for the kind words!

  • There is no way in hell this is going to go viral. When I think of Savannah I don't think of a gold statue dancing around town. Why the hell is he even dancing anyway? And historically in movies when statues "come to life" don't they generally turn into real people? If they wanted to make some sort of dance routine they should have done something like the opening scene of the Drew Carey Show. Don't be so campy.

  • This is total crap. Instead of wasting $15,000 you could have hosted some sort of free SCAD competition and it would have been 10,000 times better.

  • @kenpach09 Sorry to hear you don't like it. Do you have some constructive ideas that will help us develop future videos? What would you have done differently?

  • @SavannahEst1733 While there is something to be said for the idea of bringing Oglethorpe to life and the remarkable resemblance to the statue, the idea completely falls apart with the idea of a conga line careening through the historic district and past the likeliest of tourist traps, set to a score that is straight out of a Carnival cruise line ad from the Seventies. I swear, at the end of this thing I thought Ogle-thorpe was gonna try to sneak a peek up the Waving Girl's skirt...

  • @kenpach09 It did say to be continued...pretty sure she's gonna come to life in the next one...Ridiculous

  • @kenpach09 Or how about SCAD takes the initiative to do this project on their own instead of wanting others to host a competition for them?

  • @nayberry05 SCAD dose not need to advertise Savannah to bring in revenue. It is the city of Savannah who benefits needs SCAD.

  • @kenpach09 SCAD needs Savannah just as much as Savannah needs SCAD. Our entire city is interlaced with partnerships, sponsorships and other collaborations which all help to bring revenue and national exposure to Savannah. SCAD should know this more than anyone. But your first comment doesnt seem to show appreciation for that relationship.

  • Comment removed

  • @nayberry05 You are right they do. But instead of the city of Savannah spending $15,000 to pay for some company to produce a sub par product they could have hosted a competition instead.

  • @kenpach09 I actually agree with your idea. And maybe its not too late to consider that alternative if @SavannahEst1733 decides to continue with this promotional series

  • @kenpach09 VisitSavannah has every right to take on their own projects without having to consult with SCAD. In return, all of us should either show our support and appreciation or offer constructive ideas like @SavannahEst1733 previously asked you from the beginning.

  • Home sick, made me cry!!

  • @savgal1211 Aww! Don't cry...Visit! ;-)

  • MY HOME! Thanks!! No other city as beautiful!!

  • I love the Victorian Lady. Party Time!!

  • I was a part of this, and I met someone on this conga line who changed my life. Seriously. :D

  • @mrwhalejr Thanks for participating! :)

  • I love Savannah so much!

  • A Conga Line Savannah Style!

  • it looks like the pg copy of

The Happening from M. Night Shyamalan or is it the hidden ending lol

  • This is great! Makes me miss being home!!

  • Great video Savannah! I will definitely refer this to others. Lets make this VIRAL!

  • @AlexaHankinson Thanks! Glad you like it!

  • A great video! Thank you! (I watched part of the filming, on the boat)

  • @carlleet Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed!
