So, it's probably not a case of whether he knows who the band is, or what the song is, it's a matter of him not understanding the lyrics. It's kind of like the difference between yourself or myself listening to a German song and trying to sing the lyrics back to a bunch of people who've spoken German their entire lives, there's bound to be a few issues with pronunciation, emphasis and what-not.
