@LPBESSTBAND95 When you design your rocket you use things called decouplers. The game makes you play a tutorial and explains all this; did you skip the tutorial? If so, I suggest running through it. There's a decoupler called a radial decoupler that ejects pieces off the side of the rocket.
it's alot more fun and challenging to try to get orbit in this game...anyone can built a rocket when they have infinite parts and they work 100% of the time
@JPAchilles The trick is to use solid fuel boosters for the initial launch and then use liquid fuel rockets for the rest of the trip, but not with just one fuel tank for each rocket, the best result is 3 fuel tanks.
Why is it, the one of the far right is constantly terrified, the one on the far left sort of wavers between scared and excited. And the one in the middle is smiling constantly as if he's off his tits on Valium?
He even smiles when he's bombing it straight for the planet with no hope of surviving...
@DavidWCourtney , how do you get that thing to be so stable! i try and keep mine stable and every time it just spins out of control. also, i am new to this game and need tips for building a rocket that will do good in terms of height and recovery.
Uhmm yeah. I made it out of orbit going 3000M/S by the time my engines ran out of fuel. I was 700000m [I think] high. I then went to bed.. It is now 10 hours in, and I am 46700K off of the crust.. My ship isn't decelerating at all... Did I just win?
i cant get past 25,000meters and i go like 400meters/sec it realy sucsk once i hit good altitude my engines ethir overheat or run out of fuel and i come tumbling down to the planet and my crew always dies cuz idk how to use the paracheut
@DavidWCourtney What is the highest height you've achieved in this game? I got to a little over 200 km in a simple, rather more realistic design than most of the monsters people post
@sgttaco1 I honestly don't know what my altitude record is thus far. Achieving orbit has more to do with horizontal velocity than it does altitude. Once you are above ~150 kilometers, you have all the altitude you need to achieve a stable orbit. Any additional altitude is "wasted" (in a sense). So my goal has been to achieve the 7500 meters/second necessary to achieve orbit. So far, I've only made it to about 2,000 meters/second.
@smh3w The attractive force between two objects (a.k.a. gravity) goes on to infinity. So in a theoretical Universe that contained no other massive objects, you could travel away from the Earth by trillions and trillions of kilometers and still be "pulled" back.
In the real Universe, when you go beyond the Earth's gravitational SOI (Sphere of Influence), you enter the Sun's gravitational SOI. The Hill sphere of Earth is about 1.5Gm (1,500,000 kilometers)
I don't think orbit is possible, I got a ship up to 55,000 M and pointed my ship at the horizon, then my last stage got me to about 4000m/s in the direction of the horizon(I was aiming for 8km/s like earth orbit), I was falling slowly at the time, but 4000M/s was enough to break me out of the gravitational pull of the planet, It's now 220,000 KM from the planet traveling at 2929.8 M/s after 21 hours, even 4000M/s is WAY to fast for orbit around this planet.
@Germanswisscheese ~7500m/s is the correct velocity for Low Earth Orbit. But remember the further you are away from the central mass, the less influence its gravity has on your vessel. So the correct velocity for orbit at a geostationary position is less than the velocity that is needed for LEO. At a geostationary position, the correct velocity is ~6900/ms. At 220,000KM, you are still well within Earth's SOI. I think you will fall back to Earth eventually. Space is big, so it may take a while.
@DavidWCourtney Currently 4 hours into a 50km orbit at 2328 m/s and holding strong. 7500m/s would be well over the escape velocity and shoot you out into space, so I don't know where you got that number from.
Orbit is possible, but you have to time it really carefully. I got the capsule to orbit the planet three times before I reset, since I didn't have any way of breaking orbit lol. Also keep in mind that this planet may not be identical to earth, so it's gravitational effects may be slightly different.
I've gottenabit over 2000 kilometers. Gravity still functions though. I started to drop back to earth after about 47 minutes. Then i just quit out of boredom. I only used 3 fuel tanks and a liquid booster.
Whenever I try to use a Liquid Engine on my bottom stack, I have to put a decoupler underneath it or it will just get stuck in the ground. Do you experience this problem?
@AlejandroTecman Start with the the most basic design and work your way up. Start with nothing more than a solid rocket booster. If you are experiencing a lot of wobble and rotation, it is because your rocket design is unbalanced.
@SheepFreak2 You actually control the ship, correcting its' direction, and you have to manually start the different stages of the rocket. And you have to make the rockets from scratch
Ive tried, and the highest point ive gotten is 317,000 m. Even at this altitude, I fell back to earth.
I got there by going straight up (no angle whatsoever), so I figured I didnt have enough horizontal speed built up to be in orbit. So I relaunched and tried angling my rocket after awhile, and as a result I did orbit about 3/4 of the planet, but ultimately still fell back to earth. So idk.
@Scorch1494 You can't be 'still in orbit' relative to the planet, else you will begin to fall to the surface (which is of course contrary to the point of orbiting). You could try to fly as straight as possible away from the planet to see if it does rotate, but you likely won't be able to discern if it's rotating if you are orbiting (because at that point you cannot really tell if it is rotating because you're going around it or if it's spinning on its own).
I love this game. The best part is when one stage runs out of fuel and you're just entering space, so when you detach the previous section hangs behind you for a second before dropping.
They get freaked out by separations because you're catching the previous stage in the flame of your new booster. There doesn't seem to be a great deal that can be done about that.
