  • Playing this for our ensemble. Mixed grades, 6th to 8th. The 6th grader can play the 1st Violin part this fast o.o

  • They hardly can play it without smearing...it is too fast, at least for them.

  • all these Baroque "fans" comment on the pace. We have no idea how fast or slow these were suppose to be played . So take a chill pill and just enjoy it.

  • Recall that the original instuments were smaller, and so the pace was faster. I think this was very near the original intention of Bach.

  • They are **Really** going for it - you can't argue with this music... Just have to love it!

  • Awesome!

  • too fast baby!

  • This piece is so glorious, that I cannot listen to it while doing homework for it captivates my attention.

  • Allegro? More like prestissimo, but nicely played!

  • I played this piece my junior year of high school and I have to say,it was the most fun I've had in the 7 years I've played Viola. We used to see how fast we could play it. We almost made it to the tempo they're playing here, but not quite. :D

  • watch the faces of the first 3 violenists. Their expressions are hilarious. I know the third ones name is gotfried. Its almost like they are in a silent competition to see if they can make each other mess up.

  • @shellshok1968 I've played all three Violin parts, and I never know which one is better. I think the 1st Violin part is probably a little better just because you lead and get to do the sequence first. The second and third are each staggered from the first... so yeah, makes you want to be in competition. Or I suppose as much as someone could be with a violin in their hand.

  • This probably is the fastest interpretation of this movement I've ever heard, but I agree with Aiden057: It's brilliant. To perform with this kind of quality at such a tempo really requires excellent musicians, which is exactly what these young people are!

  • @trygbugg In terms of speed, Musica Antiqua easily beats them. I love both ensembles, but if you want to really drop your jaw just in terms of technical precision despite truly ridiculous tempi, pull up theirs (it's on youtube even).

  • you people are just insane...amazing

  • why do violinists hold their bow so high up in this song?

  • @Samuel98331 they are using baroque bows. they have no handgrips on the bows, and you are supposed to hold them high to get more control and bounce.

  • @Samuel98331 those are original baroque bows; they are hold like that

  • AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!! Vivacious, luscious, Moldau inspiru??? Beautiful music to represent the specie...BACH!!! Do you hear all the Streams.?? VOLARE

  • Beautiful..

  • 0:40 Hahaha, that second violin player tried to stab the the guy, lol!

  • -cries- we're playing this in the strings festival im going to die O_O i have errethang down but the speed is....Murderous.

this is gon be fun >:D

    hooray for violins

  • Very Beatiful....

  • WAAAAYYYYYY to fast.

  • “It's easy to play any musical instrument: all you have to do is touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself.” - Johann Sebastian Bach

    pshhhh yeah right

  • @ThePhilipjones235 that was in reference to the organ. Which is 100% true.

  • This song is so much fun to play~

  • My god. I guess "Allegro" is up for interpretation.

  • @hommedeterreful you should hear musica antiqua koln's interpretation, LOL

  • @hommedeterreful

Well, Allegro is "fast" in Italian, and they are certainly doing it "fast"!

  • Monumental Bach composition and monumental interpretation by Freiburg Baroque Orchestra!

  • The creepy statue of a frowning Bach is priceless.

  • I have always loved the music by Bach, he is without doubt the greatest composer to have ever lived.

  • yes... ribbonmicro... thats what they use everytime when you want to capture orchestras accurattely.

  • Oh mon dieu ils avaient un train à prendre ce jour là !!! Je rappel que Bach utilisait son coeur comme métronome, désolant les notes n'ont pas le temps de vivre!!!

  • Had to perform this movement in high school orchestra. Best damn piece I've ever had the pleasure of playing.

  • They make look so easy...

  • @thisrandomchannel What does it matter? If they aren't a professional playing in an orchestra for a living, they don't have to refer to it as "the third movement" or whatever you'd suggest they call it.

  • I didn't read all the comments but I'd be surprised if someone didn't mention the bow holds used by the violinists. The look is reminiscent of the German style, but the fingers are curved and flexible as in the French style. So I have to ask... where did they learn how to bow like that? Suzuki?

BTW, I like the performance and regardless of speculative interpretations of who's mad or whatever they did a fine job. Maybe too fast, but 99% of people who hear this will think that's great.

  • too fast... but they seem to be enjoying it and are into it! oh bach you are so awesome

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS....

  • -wince- Audition piece. -twitch- why -twitch- Baroque?

  • brilliant version but 0:40 - 0:45 was too funny. the third violinist was clearly so pissed at her. seems a shame to trivialise this work of art with a commet like this but couldn't resist it

  • I am afraid that this piece's viola is having a calm time, while the violins are too far moving by themselves. I hope the violins can settle down a bit.... but the music is nice! keep going! BRAVO!

  • @DainGerrUsss They're not trying to impress people with their movement. It's nigh impossible to produce music like this without feeling it strongly, so they move with it. Also, different hand positions are easier to reach when the instrument is either further from you, or closer to you.

  • 0:40 almost a head-butt hahaha

  • LOL 0:27 Third Violin = Deathstare ;) or watching first.....I prefer my first choice :D

  • Probably one of the BEST renditions of this that I have ever heard. BUT, why do these folks, like most ALL other musicians have to physically express themselves SO strongly. All of those unnecessary movements do not impress anyone watching them play. OK, so they "feel" the music. FINE. Just feel it IN YOUR HEAD. PLAY QUIETLY FOR A CHANGE. JUST PLAY THE MUSIC WITHOUT SO MUCH DAMN MOVEMENT. Now, don't flame me, I am NOT saying this to detract from their gorgeous playing, it is just my opinion.

  • @DainGerrUsss Just don't watch them play. That's what I do.

  • beautiful

  • Eine wunderbare Leistung von einem zeitlosen Meisterwerk. Vielen Dank für den Austausch.

  • @Samoriah

    thanks for the insight...

i actually didn't know that bach wrote it for violone and not for the contrabass... but then again.. i should have taken into account the fact that they hadn't really become popular, but it may of have been a contrabass because it had been written for basso continuo, basically, a harmony for the solo instruments.....

  • dude...

why does the bass guy have tapes???

    FAIL

  • @bookworm3124

Actually, that is a violone, a large fretted instrument that was the predecessor to the double bass. Those are frets, not tapes.

  • @bookworm3124 WELL WHERE ARE YOU IN THIS VIDEO!?!?!?!?!?

  • This is difficult to play at this tempo, as you'd probably think. But just imagine bowing at this tempo on an instrument with gut strings and no bridge tuners. These people play not only at the speed intended by Bach, but on 17th-century configured instruments.

  • Playing this tomorrow for my Guitar Ensemble Festival. But we play it so slow compared to this because intermediate plays with us... wish us luck o-o

  • They never focus in on the violas. It hurts... ;_;

  • They real tempo of this concert is hard, deamt!

  • 1:14 and 2:57 looks hard for the violin, 2:11 and 3:55 looks hard for viola

  • Umm.... Why is this being played in Presto? This is supposed to be Allegro....

  • @BelleNRaezMama That's what I was thinking... I guess it's just fun in presto.

  • @BelleNRaezMama It is allegro its all 16th notes i have the sheet music and we play it about this speed

  • I have no sympathy for the cellists, but have mercy on that poor bass player. He looks like he's going to hurt himself.

  • Orchestra headbobs amuse me. :)

  • Apparently Bach wrote these concerti to be so difficult that the Earl (?) of Brandenburg's orchestra couldn't play them.

  • why are their open strings in a lower key than normal

  • @cgatesjames Their instruments are Baroque-tuned so that the pitch is one half-step lower than concert pitch; A = 415 Hz instead of the modern A440 Hz. I suppose these musicians were intending to make their performance as authentic as possible. Also note how the upper stringed instruments do not have chin rests because chin rests hadn't been invented until around 1820 by Louis Spohr.

  • holy hell thats fast, blazing fast!!!!!

  • incredible! eccellente esecuzione!

  • These videos always look so fake.

  • This rips.

  • I played this on steel pan in a steel ensemble. I need to do it again and record it!

  • we're playing this in my hs orchestra.... somehow i don't think we'll be going quite as fast.

  • I can feel the Inner Happiness of them through the song.

I really love to hear and to play these, its Bach, LOVE IT SO VERY VERY MUCH

  • Info on the vid

    The beat is 12/8

    It is all 16th notes

    it is allegro

i have the sheet music if anyone wants to clarify anything

  • quality.

  • doesnt give the violas enough time on the video!

  • Omg I have to play this song in my intermediate orchestra. My cello fingers are gonna melt

  • @CelloDrums330 yeah and i have to play it on double bass!

  • @CelloDrums330 Oh hun, I feel your pain. I had to play it last year for my school's Gala for the dinner service and by your name, I'm guessing your a cellist. It hurts.

  • @CelloDrums330 We also played it for our concert!

8D I was intermidiate as well. We played it for our Spring concert and a special concert called 'String Fling'

  • @chunkychunkyfood awsome! how did u do?

  • @jenblu123 Psh. I don't really remeber but I think we did pretty bad. xDDD

  • @chunkychunkyfood lol >__< we're playing it right now

  • @jenblu123 It's actually not that hard. :U

  • @chunkychunkyfood YAY!!! we've only just started so... im glad it's not hard

  • @CelloDrums330 Haha, I played it last year. It was awful in the beginning but it gets a lot easier as it goes on.

  • its a half step down.. why? i

  • @sowhat123 I

It's baroque tuning, which is A415, a half step below the A440 tuning of modern instruments.

  • @chappinger12 so essentially its like tuning a guitar a half step down ?

  • @sowhat123

Basically, yes. However, those musicians still treat the music as if they were tuned normally. Their G, though it SOUNDS like Gb to us, is a G to them, because baroque tuning is lower than modern tuning. The music they are reading is written in G.

  • @sowhat123 many places in Europe use the older tuning, even today.

  • A brilliant interpretation. Thank you for posting this wonderful selection and my highest complements to the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. Also, again, I must complement the very high level of excellence of the technical side -- camera, lighting, sound and production design. A great success musically and technically. I'm wondering if someone in the know might offer a comment about the sort of microphones used to capture this?

  • Ah just brilliant! I loved looking at the musicians' faces in this video. So expressionless and reserved, even while playing such fantastic music. I half expected them all to burst out laughing when they'd finished, just from sheer emotional relief.

  • I've heard this played faster....insane! Classical music has enough energy written into it: it's the pulse of life it's self. Media conglomerates think that people will like it more if it's played faster and faster. Idiots!

  • This the only the favorite movement of mine from the concerto, if it is played presto. But actually supposed to be allegro!

  • I like the enthusiasm, but everything goes too fast!

(sorry, my spanish sucks :( )

  • Comment removed

  • @raincloud8 Faster? Most people here is complaining because this is too fast. Faster or slower, I like it anyway; you know, different tempos, different feelings.

Oh, and yes, you can still improve your Spanish, but it's not that bad now. Believe me: I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I thank your effort for learning my language. ¡Saludos desde México!

  • This piece is so hard to learn at first. Practicing it everyday to get it down pat and learn to finally play it as fast!

  • Playing this for KMS in a quintet i'm the first chair cello in my middle school 8th grade. Were playing this song for KMEA which is solo's in ensambles in louisville, KY. This is extremely hard for middle schoolers especially because our orchestra teacher is pushy and is making us play the full speed

  • Basics first, get the music then speed it up.

  • Either the 2nd and 3rd violinist are having sex, or the guy is really worried about getting an eye poked out. He keeps giving her the look...lol

  • apparently there are still 12 knuckle dragging, mouthbreathing neanderthals left in the world.....

  • You are right, fast tempo.

  • By the way WAY TO GO DOUBLE BASSIST!

  • Isn't tempo way too fast?

  • I am currently working on bits and pieces of this and I want to do everything in my power to devote my life to classical and my favorite instrument the double Bass

  • Bravo! It would sound much better it was played slower!!!!!!!!!

  • Armonía perfecta

  • It's actually hard to believe that they're making such wonderful sounds together. By the way, I think that if it had been played slower, it wouldn't have flowed like it does now. Just my opinion.

  • 0:40 always brings a smile to my face. :'D

  • Amazing!! but is it my imagination or should this have been played slower?

  • Listening this Satan himself would go before God for eternal penitence.

  • 3:55 :-)

  • Sublime!!!!

  • Me and my ensemble are doing this we all go to The Leighigh Valley Charter High School for the Preforming Arts, and we are doing ALL MOVEMENTS and this is quiet easy for us.

  • Five...four...three...two...one...BLAST OFF!

My idea of a hellish punishment would be to have to listen to this glorious music without moving a muscle. I'm surprised the musicians don't levitate when they play it.

  • 12 people dislike a pinnacle of human achievement

  • xD, very funny (not the music, thecomment below)

  • Why is the second violinist trying to stab the third in the face? LOL...

  • @nitro722 lmfao! i know right?! xD

  • @nitro722 She keeps looking over to see if she did it :D LOLLOLLOL

  • @nitro722 haha 0:41 - 0.45

  • @nitro722 more importantly why is the third violinist so pissed at everyone including the viola section?

  • @nitro722 LOL

  • ステレオタイプのバロック音楽って感じっすね

  • Bah All.Bah For ever!Bah while exists the World!

  • don't drink and allegro

  • Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the score and I'm amazed!!!

The genius Bach, the best of all times, the genius of contrapoint!!!!

Único, irrepetible e insuperable J.S. Bach!!!!!

  • No wonder the last movement was so short. He wanted to get onto this masterpiece, sharpish.

  • OMG i forgot my tire was leaking air!. if i don't get out of this gig soon i won't get home...can't we play this FASTER

  • Yes like a waterfall.

  • The best! The legend, the genius of contrapoint!! J.S. Bach!!

  • Brandenburg Concertos is the only favorite song of mine.

  • @davonindonesia1 What are the words to the song?

  • I am learning how to play this and it is so hard. I can't keep the rhythm going, but I am determined to get it right.

  • @celestialpassion Start by playing it a bunch stupidly slow - Thats what I did :) Good luck m8

  • @celestialpassion I amlearning it right now any sugestions?

  • @celestialpassion Keep it up! Yes it is hard BUT so rewarding once u get it down!!

  • @celestialpassion thumbs up to you

  • @oatmealtime1 i have been playing viola for almost nine years, and have been playing this off and on... use open strings and short bows. try to keep to the middle of the bow as well. practice the runs slow :)

  • @chriss0104 agreed!

  • @oatmealtime1 take ur time and practice the runs alot and make sure you keep a nice beat

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVE J.S. BACH !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FOREVER

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

  • At the very end, a cello cuts off late but other than that 5/5

  • i've heard the following statement by sooooooo many:

classical music is for old fart fuddie-duddies.

2 mistakes here. 1- it's not classical. 2- press play.

  • they play so fast that if one makes a mistake the others will explode

  • wish they'd do it up to tempo!!!!! How slow!!!! lol

  • @gwm987 You have GOT to be kidding!!! They take this Allegro at a brisk pace - any faster and it would spin out of control! I think the way they perform it makes it sparkle and dance - it makes one want to get up and start dancing :--).

  • tout à fait d'accord la musique de Bach est une preuve de plus que Dieu est vivant
