  • How about those jungle carbines and the Bren gun? All time proven weapons that can't be beat, even today. Thanks to all the vets that put their time in the jungles, far from home.

  • I have a bit of the malayan kit and was talking to some malayan crisis veterans and they said they ditched some of the kit and instead used a quick release parachute belt which they hung their pouches from, also they attached rubber bits onto the underneath of their cross strap yokes etc etc, interesting stuff though!

  • british, incompetent complacent pricks

  • @cinemascene

? the CTs didn't win. I'd say that was competent. And the ethnic Chinese CTs obviously thought the majority of the Malay population would follow them because they were Asian too; I'd say that was being complacent.

Or were you just being racist? You fucking yank-zipper-head.

  • @cinemascene Erm... Vietnam ???

  • @cinemascene said an American !!!

  • Is it me or does the Owen SMG look really awkward with its top mounted magazine and bizarre stock.

  • @bcs436 The aussies developed it, because they thought the right angle on the sten-gun would snag in the bush. The reason it's top mounted is because the magazine used's, the sten's, spring was very weak and would not feed properly if underneath.

I agree it looked odd, but the gun performed so well I believe it was still in use until the '70s

  • @rdjhardy Thanks for the info. I knew the weapons had a good reputation but did not realize that it took sten mags.

  • The videos show some of the bandits in action..

  • Actually the bandits were the Brits. They were the one who enslaved the malays and robbed Malaya of its natural resources

  • This is quite interesting.

Got to talk to some veterans at Guilford Cathedral with my reenactment group, and I was portraying this era., most of the veterans came from this era, and they said how they havent seen those jungle boots in ages and 44 pattern webbing etc etc :D

  • These guys did a great job. We owe a great debt to them. Hoed af!

  • I really admire Malay and Commonwealth troops during World War II. I feel the setting has an authentic touch.

And I still love the Malay regiment when they were in action back in 1940s.

  • This is during the Malayan Emergency 1948-1960... not World War II 1939-1945. These guys did do a good job putting a stop to the commies.

  • Thanks Zackrossi, it's nice to think that the Malaysian people are grateful to the likes of my old man, and all the thousands of other Commonwealth soldiers, New Zealand, Australia and elsewhere. My father died in 98, I've still got his medal. Thanks again mate for your comment.

  • Your welcome, sad to heard that about your father. After Commonwealth soldiers leaving Malaya, we still fighting these commies. My dad is in army to, 1st Royal Malay Regiment start from 1970's to commies surrendered at 1989. Salute to all the brave man.

  • @Enquiringmind777 we appreciate the sacrifices done by the commonwealth troops here in malaysia. if its not because of the gurkhas and the commonwealth troops we wouldn't be able to defeat communism and move forward. on behalf of my family we thank u (and i believe i also speak for all malaysian).

  • Rare footage you got there. Thank you for helping us protecting our country from communism. Salute to all Commonwealth soldier who on duty that time. Regards from Malaysian people.

  • you probably like these colonizers

  • Not really. Maybe you like communism rule SEA. That why...

  • It's up to you....Learn history 1st

  • capitalism is evil. communism is the future. you just got lucky you won the cold war. if soviet interfere in vietnam war, communism will spread to France and domino effects will go down all over SE asia. you imperialist dogs are fucked by then.

  • @malayneum

True communism has never existed for any length of time, nor has it ever governed a country. Only tyrants who never felt hunger. How can one have a rank structure in a communist country.

You're wrong, you lose. Communism is a dead horse, stop flogging it.

  • @rdjhardy clearly you dont have a slightest fuckin idea about communism. stop reading those imperialist propaganda. communism is the past and the future !

  • @malayneum Calm down dear! Repeating yourself doesn't prove you point, it just makes you sound like an idiot. The domino theory was a western one, so well done you've obviously read some 'imperialist propaganda', but your comments are still without much serious thought and very naive.

Do you still think the world is flat?

  • @rdjhardy Why are you so upset? Face it. You people have never won the war with Communists. Stop acting like you are some sort of freedom fighter for the Malay natives. You westerners are no more than just hungry imperialists trying to defend your assets and capitals in Malaya. No more no less.

  • @malayneum I thought this was about communism's role in the future. The Malaya Emergency is long over, 1960. I take it you live in a communist country? Which one? The one with free trade cities that kills Muslims and students; the one that is ruled by an upper class rebel with fifty houses; the one were the people are starving and sinks other countries warships; the one promoting itself as an alternative to Thailand for holiday makers cash;

  • @malayneum Or, one of those countries where they think having sex with a baby will cure them of AIDS?

None? what you live in a democracy? Ah! so you are ignorant through choice and not because of the state. Do you still think the world is flat?

    You lose. Again.

  • My old man was also a signalman, at the back, and he told me that when all the other troopers had tramped through the swamps, he being at the back was nearly up to his neck, what with 50 pounds of radio. Attached to the Suffolk regiment chasing the bearded Terror of Kajang. Do you know, all the time he was there he never did see any bandits, only dead ones on a pole he took to the police station. Mind you it was real dangerous he told me.

  • My old man was in Malaya 52, and he told me they had american carbines, with flash detectors, he only used to put 5 rounds in the chamber so it wouldn't jam, and he also told me those sten guns were crap, alway's jamming up.

  • nice video...

  • From which year are the movie?? nice.

  • 1950's, the men have SLR's and bush caps so it must be the Malayan Emergency.

  • agreed, this is during the emergency

  • Not SLRs. Updated Lee-Enfields.

  • Dammit, you're right. Those look like no. 4 LE's.

  • yeh they're Lee Enfield no.5 MK1 "jungle Carbines" designed for use in Burma and the Far East. Shorter barrel and less weight to make it easy to use in jungle conditions.
