Paul Masvidal is incredibly under rated. He's a good guitar player, don't get me wrong. Chuck is great and all, he's like the Dave Mustaine or Jeff Waters of this band, Legendary guitarists and songwriting and can sing. But ya got to give Paul some credit too.
god dam ,, i love all his work, i feel him playing ,he played as a god would in the midtz of a battle called ''life'',i fuckin love you chuck and allways will!
@rainbowchickenfish I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED CHUCK'S WORK ALTHOUGH MY FAVORITE ALL TIMES DEATH ALBUM IS SPIRITUAL HEALING, JAMES MURPHY WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO COULD REACH CHUCK'S TALENT IMHO
I can't describe what a genious Chuck is, his compositions are out of this world, he's simply in comparable
the thing i can't understand is untalented fuckin horse poopers like Justin bieber and lady gaga is making money for generations to come...but a prodigy like Chuck Schuldiner had no money to pay his hospital bills!!...what a fucked up world we live in
@Jr3ll chuck had brain cancer.. somewhere in 1900-2000 somwhere in those years it came , he fighted it back , it vanished , but in 2001 it came again he had no money for an operation just for meds, but those meds just made him weaker , so he died at the 13. of december in 2001 :(
@awesomolopolis64 well, not all of them died of drugs, John Lennon was shot and Kurt Cobain was either killed or commited suicide, but yeah, all of them were influenced by drugs except for Chuck. Still, my point is that the best musicians die young most of time :'(
@awesomolopolis64 actually Chuck didn't really invent Death Metal, he just brought is to the mainstream, It's a common mistake, I used to think that too but I did some research and found out that Chuck didn't really invent Death Metal, he still kicks ass though
@awesomolopolis64 the band Possesed, they are considered the first death metal band but since at the time they were considered just thrash metal and death metal was brought to the mainstream by Chuck, he is thought to have invented death metal, it's just like Kurt Cobain with grunge, he didn't invent it but he brought it to the mainstream
@Taboas2013 I looked that up, Possessed released a demo in '83 titled "Death Metal"....but Death (which was under the name Mantas) released a demo in '83 called Death By Metal...but I saw in an interview, Chuck himself said that Venom was the first death metal band
@Taboas2013 good point, that's the way it is. look at Dark Angel's "The Burning of Sodom", or any other song from the Darkness Descends album for example... it's stylistically similar to Death's early material, but it was released in '86, and they're considered thrash metal...
Yeah, good old times, Death Human and Individual + Cynic Focus, excellent masterpieces. I used to know every little accent on those albums (not play unfortunately :-) too young, too unexperienced, then abandoned drumming when grown up due to life commitments and lack of time ), but hell yeah, that was IT ! Still enjoy listening to those albums.
chuck is and always be in our hearts.. true metal god.. writter visionnary .. entertainer.. father of death metal.. the one and only.. . r.i. p chuck we miss your ingeniosity .. breathe -taking solos.. and sense of humor.. .. a true death metal artist.. #1 always and forever
@i5Alex I don't get how someone could even put Kirk on a top ten list. Even the best guitar solos he has written, are boring in comparison to so many other players.
@Intotheorchard I totally agree, the only really memorable solo I have ever heard from him is the one in Fight fire with Fire, and that was with Hetfield
I hope you're a fuckin retard, if you're talkin about mustaine instead of shuldiner, and actually saying that metallica was better, with hammett. You should die, die, die!!!
I apologize for talking about anything other than death, who cares about a stupid comment when it comes to shit of this quality. Just listen and learn.
@supertzar11 you obviously have no idea about what I was talking about, so I hope YOUR fuckin retarded

Section 107 of the copyright act 1976 my ass. Chuck Schuldiner would not be at all pleased at what filthy and unholy corporation WMG is. @6Death6By6Metal your wrong, chuck cant surrender to himself! that would create a total paradox where the universe would turn in on its self and only the tuneing of all standard guitar strings will be heard.
I got this record signed in Power Cuts, Manchester, UK on 4th Feb '92. One of Chuck's crew had bought a copy of a teeny mag, Just Seventeen which had an article about satanism in metal, citing Death and the evil "Chuck Shuldinger". Chuck was pissed off and told the guy to write to the mag, saying, "Yeah, really let loose on that - they could at least have spelt my fucking name right!". That night they played at the Manchester International II with Loudblast and Carcass, who replaced Pestilence.
What makes you think Chuck wrote his leads? If you listen you can clearly hear what's a Chuck solo and what's a Paul solo and I can tell you with certainty that Chuck did not write his leads. Listen to Cynic's Focus and you can see that Masvidal doesn't need help writing solos.
I own that CD as well. I do know that Paul is without a doubt a great guitarist and wrote his own stuff on Human, I just think Chucks Ego (Albeit good) influenced what Paul wanted to do....Agreed? Know what I mean?
Yes, I'm sure Chuck gave his thoughts about the solos and all, but from what I've heard they (Reinert and Masvidal) were artistically quite free with this album.
I love how passionate Chuck's solos sound, but (I don't want to offend anybody), has anyone esle apart from me realised that Chuck repeated in lots of solos a sort of phrase?Of course, it is obious that artists can't avoid repeating something, What I mean, is that Chuck really liked the phrase at 0:53-0:54. It is not the first time i hear that sonority in one of his solos.
That's pretty much some of his signature techniques. You'll find a lot of artists have their own signature techniques.
For instance if you listen to a lot of Dave Mustaine's solos, in a good chunk of them he uses a lot the same pentatonic lick when he's playing fast in some songs.
Also I just want to point out that's not a jab at Dave Mustaine at all. Kirk Hammett, Alexi Laiho, and a lot of other guitarists have noticeable signatures they stamp on some of their solos.
I am going to go against the flow... And say that, I prefer Leprosy and Scream Bloody Gore before the later stuff... I do not know why really, since everything with Death is great. And my favorite solo would be the ones in Zombie Ritual!
Those used to be my favorites before I heard control denied and listend to Human - the last recordings chuck did for Control Denied I know of in detail . I honestly dont have a favorite anymore every record is special in its own way I just tend to listen to different albums during different moods and situations ya know ?
i say both ITP and Human had awesome solos , I prefer the Human line up cuz shit fuckin Paul Masvidal Baby ! but ITP did kick ass hardbody still dont know which to choose better
The harmony stuff after about 5:35 is just badass and sick as hell. Does anyone know specifically what he used to do that? Makes me want to break my whammy pedal out and start screwing around with the harmony settings right now, lol. I'd think that was what he used, and maybe he did, but then there's the little pitch shift with delay/reverb at 6:10 so it makes me think maybe an eventide or something that was in the studio was used to achieve it...IDK.
dude somone was tryin to tell me chuck has no talent....and the dude likes hardcore music..and blink 182..i was like wtf!!r u retarded..i mean he was pretty good at lead and a great music composer
dude i know exactly what u mean..but chuck was a very great music composer i give him props..even though the music was intense the kept it together..theyre first album was good..but they just got better and better throughout the years..but like all the stuff on the sound of perservernce album was great music composin..alot of tempo changes..its not like whole lot chuggin..the riffs just fell into place lots of harmonies n stuff and there were doin there own thing
He was a modern day composer dude. He wrote literally ALL of the music, then let the other band members use that as a basis, to make changes of their own. He was a fucking musical god in my opinion. Whoever told you that has NO knowledge of music at all, just another ass trying to put us down. Probably because he's jealous of Chuck... seriously alot of people are like that lol
yes man exactly i mean ive been really tryin to break down there music and u can really see how much they progressed with there style like before like scream bloody gore they were like yea well play hella fast shred a solo and growl and later chuck was like im gunna bust out some perfect melodies and sweet as melodic solos...haha yea but gatta love death...1st death metal band i ever liked..metalcore scene FUCKED EVERYTHING UP..it gave me false ideas to find good metal..haha
yea dude same here...at my school its the wanna be scene metalcore kids and then the grindcore metalcore kids...and honostly that music doesnt have any qualties in it besides rythem but the rythems arent even good haha..i mean all the good technical bands are hidden like gojira death meshuggah (not really) the thing with meshuggah and gojira are there timings like there off its cool and it can get technical
Paul Masvidal is incredibly under rated. He's a good guitar player, don't get me wrong. Chuck is great and all, he's like the Dave Mustaine or Jeff Waters of this band, Legendary guitarists and songwriting and can sing. But ya got to give Paul some credit too.

You know it's a badass album when you can make a longer than average song out of the solos alone.

I own this CD. Its one of my Favorites.
RIP CHUCK!!!

Paul Masvidal there from cynic! Though Chuck probably wrote his leads.......
Herringboner 2 years ago
What makes you think Chuck wrote his leads? If you listen you can clearly hear what's a Chuck solo and what's a Paul solo and I can tell you with certainty that Chuck did not write his leads. Listen to Cynic's Focus and you can see that Masvidal doesn't need help writing solos.

I own that CD as well. I do know that Paul is without a doubt a great guitarist and wrote his own stuff on Human, I just think Chucks Ego (Albeit good) influenced what Paul wanted to do....Agreed? Know what I mean?
Herringboner 2 years ago
Yes, I'm sure Chuck gave his thoughts about the solos and all, but from what I've heard they (Reinert and Masvidal) were artistically quite free with this album.

bravo to Chuck and the other members as well as the bass solo by DiGiorgio

Repetition creates the artists style
corey4406 2 years ago
I love how passionate Chuck's solos sound, but (I don't want to offend anybody), has anyone esle apart from me realised that Chuck repeated in lots of solos a sort of phrase?Of course, it is obious that artists can't avoid repeating something, What I mean, is that Chuck really liked the phrase at 0:53-0:54. It is not the first time i hear that sonority in one of his solos.

that's his signature
KuKuPiSsDrUnK 2 years ago
on that note, compare 1:02 to 3:06 of "Spirit Crusher"
KuKuPiSsDrUnK 2 years ago
bullshit, mate. He was kinda influencial. Noone of his solos is simillar to each other but for sure has his own style prints.
AlexanderCzu 2 years ago
That's pretty much some of his signature techniques. You'll find a lot of artists have their own signature techniques.
For instance if you listen to a lot of Dave Mustaine's solos, in a good chunk of them he uses a lot the same pentatonic lick when he's playing fast in some songs.
RedShogun13 2 years ago 3
Also I just want to point out that's not a jab at Dave Mustaine at all. Kirk Hammett, Alexi Laiho, and a lot of other guitarists have noticeable signatures they stamp on some of their solos.

I am going to go against the flow... And say that, I prefer Leprosy and Scream Bloody Gore before the later stuff... I do not know why really, since everything with Death is great. And my favorite solo would be the ones in Zombie Ritual!
FIENDCLUBGLORF 2 years ago
Those used to be my favorites before I heard control denied and listend to Human - the last recordings chuck did for Control Denied I know of in detail . I honestly dont have a favorite anymore every record is special in its own way I just tend to listen to different albums during different moods and situations ya know ?

The harmony stuff after about 5:35 is just badass and sick as hell. Does anyone know specifically what he used to do that? Makes me want to break my whammy pedal out and start screwing around with the harmony settings right now, lol. I'd think that was what he used, and maybe he did, but then there's the little pitch shift with delay/reverb at 6:10 so it makes me think maybe an eventide or something that was in the studio was used to achieve it...IDK.

Sounds like Flange and Phaser pedal maybe

dude somone was tryin to tell me chuck has no talent....and the dude likes hardcore music..and blink 182..i was like wtf!!r u retarded..i mean he was pretty good at lead and a great music composer
tanvo93 2 years ago
I never saw chuck PLAY drums but he wrote everything. His music is HIS STYLE. He was an artist you dont like him or you love him.
tengrigim 2 years ago
dude i know exactly what u mean..but chuck was a very great music composer i give him props..even though the music was intense the kept it together..theyre first album was good..but they just got better and better throughout the years..but like all the stuff on the sound of perservernce album was great music composin..alot of tempo changes..its not like whole lot chuggin..the riffs just fell into place lots of harmonies n stuff and there were doin there own thing
tanvo93 2 years ago
He was a modern day composer dude. He wrote literally ALL of the music, then let the other band members use that as a basis, to make changes of their own. He was a fucking musical god in my opinion. Whoever told you that has NO knowledge of music at all, just another ass trying to put us down. Probably because he's jealous of Chuck... seriously alot of people are like that lol
thygodofrock190 2 years ago 6
yes man exactly i mean ive been really tryin to break down there music and u can really see how much they progressed with there style like before like scream bloody gore they were like yea well play hella fast shred a solo and growl and later chuck was like im gunna bust out some perfect melodies and sweet as melodic solos...haha yea but gatta love death...1st death metal band i ever liked..metalcore scene FUCKED EVERYTHING UP..it gave me false ideas to find good metal..haha
tanvo93 2 years ago 4
Yeah lol they screwed it all up... kids my age don't even give a shit about the history behind the music they listen to. Its pretty sad
thygodofrock190 2 years ago
yea dude same here...at my school its the wanna be scene metalcore kids and then the grindcore metalcore kids...and honostly that music doesnt have any qualties in it besides rythem but the rythems arent even good haha..i mean all the good technical bands are hidden like gojira death meshuggah (not really) the thing with meshuggah and gojira are there timings like there off its cool and it can get technical
