Thank you James Nachtwey for opening my eyes to so many things. The first time I saw a collection of your photographs I cried like a child. If your photographs have as much impact on the world as they had on me then I will say YOU are one of the most important people in this world. I was thinking how it was possible for you to see all that suffering and pain without yourself breaking down and realized right away that angels must be very, very close to you and you must have felt it so many times.
He picked TB? not Aids, not children in prostitution, not families needing clean water and food, not children starving to death, not prevention of teen pregnancy in 3rd world countries--he picks TB. WHY? it is an issue that needs attention, but it's NOT 1st in line.
Reldra, whether TB is 1st in line or not, SOMEBODY needs to talk about it.
If you are so concerned about the issues that you mentioned, then YOU should make a video about it rather than complaining about it on an irrelevant video.

I think regular-type TB is normally successfully treated with isoniazid and vitamin B6. Most healthcare workers in US have a PPD skin test every year. Wondering if any of the drug-resistant cases in US.
Do you even know who this artist is? His work is legendary. His art is important. This is a man who protects our freedom of speech every day that he is out in the field photographing the poor and ravaged suffering due to war. He is one of the most aware and profound artists and we are lucky he is using his work for a purpose. This is a man who has risked his life and watched his friends get shot. We haven't had a "big" problem with TB in the US in ages, but now we're seeing quickly rising numbers of cases of MDRTB (Multiple Drug Resistant TB) due in large part to the number of people moving here from developing nations which ARE suffering.
As long as part of our global community suffers from something, there's always a chance it can spread to places as yet unaffected. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Australia isn't immune. :(

I think regular-type TB is normally successfully treated with isoniazid and vitamin B6. Most healthcare workers in US have a PPD skin test every year. Wondering if any of the drug-resistant cases in US.

Do you even know who this artist is? His work is legendary. His art is important. This is a man who protects our freedom of speech every day that he is out in the field photographing the poor and ravaged suffering due to war. He is one of the most aware and profound artists and we are lucky he is using his work for a purpose. This is a man who has risked his life and watched his friends get shot. I urge you to see his work.

the artistic skill of a photographer goes as far as being able to take the most meaningfull shots possible for what you are trying to convey, it's not art, it's philosophy. art would imply that he creates the moment, as opposed to capturing it. now i'm not saying anything for or against his work, but the difference of art vs. philosophy is important to note

I saw your documentary, War Photographer and that's how I know about your works. You are one of the most inspiring photographers I have come across. What's more important, is that you are an inspiring personality. I remember clearly how your friends used to go drink at the end of the day and you used to drink a glass of water. I wasn't even aware that TB was still such a problem. Unbelievable. My grandfather had TB and was easily treated. This should not be the problem it is. Tremendous work in bringing this to peoples' attention.

It's easy to ignore if it's not prevalent in your country.
We haven't had a "big" problem with TB in the US in ages, but now we're seeing quickly rising numbers of cases of MDRTB (Multiple Drug Resistant TB) due in large part to the number of people moving here from developing nations which ARE suffering.
As long as part of our global community suffers from something, there's always a chance it can spread to places as yet unaffected. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Australia isn't immune. :(
