  • It's maddening the way they keep the trains from going fast. You know there's no traffic up ahead and yet the dispatchers keep the signals yellow and red. When I was a kid I can remember flying by the stations so fast that you couldn't read the station signs.

  • @Billyb0y2001 Blame MTA for trying to everything safety!

  • when the R40 slants used to run on the a i used to take them to columbus circle and stand in between the cars all the way to 125th, it was FASTTTT lol

  • @Spitfire995 Okay!

  • I rode on many A trains of R-10s along that stretch in the olden days; they could make the run in five minutes. By the time you reached 81st St., you were flying.

  • The R-10's are better than those boring 75fters they got on the A now. I'm glad I got a chance to ride the Arnines (R-1/R-9)!

  • How did you know that a D train was ahead of you? was an announcement made?

  • Its the only train that share the same track other than the A and plus I can also tell by the timers being all red!

  • The only thing they saying this from the Train Dispacthers they look at the trains to see where they are i know how it is

  • last i checked the A and D usually runs express and th B and C run local between 59 street and 145th street

  • I know and this is a weekend so @ this particular time the C wasn't running and there is no weekend B service!

  • nice video of doing an express run on the R38 A Train.

It's not an R42 A Train because it only ran in August of 2007 and it started to run on the A Again in 2008 thru January 2009

  • Thank you and its a R-42 A....it was not a R-38. R-42's made an appearence on A during the summer of 2007 and I got pics to back it up!!

  • i ride in the middle of the train cars of the slants between those two stations. thats awesome

  • Okay cool!

  • if you ever look though the hinges of the T/O's cab of a R32, you can see the speedometer. I was on a R32 a train on that section and was very disappointed to find that the fastest it went was 37 mph (most of the time is was going 31-33) and all the signals were green. But between 59th Street and 42nd street it went up to 47 mph, so my question is: why?

  • Maserati7200, I believe the main reason is because of the grade (slope of tracks) between these stations. 59th to 125th is an uphill grade, which forces the train to go slower. 59th to 42nd, however, is a steady downhill all the way.

It also has to do with what condition the tracks are in. If the tracks aren't smooth and mostly straight, the train is generally supposed to move slower.

  • Was this an R32 or R38?

  • IIRC I think it was a either R-38 and R-42!

  • Its suppose to bump like that when swtiching tracks and it was going slow due to a D train infront and tracks workers on the opposite side!

  • Why is it going go slow? It used to rip through there at 50 mph. Now that was fun!

  • Construction on the Uptown local track and D train in front!

  • That makes sense. Great video! Thanks for posting. I remember this line very well.

  • Thank you and your welcome. Thank you for looking @ my video!

  • I tell u that is one long express part. Next stop after 59 is 125 St. Whoo

  • Yes thats why I love that express section of Manhattan!

  • was just on that shit today

  • oh ok

  • is this an R32 or R38 or both?

  • I think this was a R-32, but I'm not sure!

  • lol put on headphones and its sound like u r at the movie theatre

    p.s.i see u

    p.s.s.u wear glasses

    ps.s.s.that window is dirty

    was it possible to clean?

  • LOL....oh really. Yes I wear glasses and the window was dirty!

  • can u record 59 street to lefferts blvd?

  • That's if I get another R-32 A train and if its going in that direction!

  • why duz it seem that the a is fast as hell and the d is slow maybe because the t/o's on that line are da timers bitches

  • Yeah it was the timers and also the construction on the local track!

  • There was onced a "C" train, 8th Avenue Bronx Concourse Express, running this same route years ago. the "A" train and the "C" train onced coexisted as an 8th Avenue Express during the depression years. Remember the local trains, the 8th ave Local, "AA", "CC", and 6th ave "BB" trains.

  • LOL! They was doing construction on the local track for like 2 weeks!

  • The D trains are almost always slow on this area, I cant stand it.

  • Well there's nothing you can do about it....I don't like either!

  • very true, maybe one day 1 will prove me wrong.

  • I actually like the D train via Central Park West....I perfer to take the D train late nights cause the A is running local and I don't have to worry about another train infront of the D so its a smooth ride!

  • yea yea thats very true.

  • I wish the D would run express late nights along 4th Avenue!

  • what does green, yellow, and red mean on the timers?

  • Red=stop

    Yellow=slow down

    Green=Go

Same thing as traffic lights do for cars!

  • but explain on what wud be red&red yellow&yellow green&yellow, yellow&green and green&green?

  • Red and red=stop and stay

Yellow and yellow=proceed on diverging route prepared to stop at next signal

Green and yellow=proceed on diverging route

Yellow and green=proceed on main route prepared to stop at next signal

Green and green=proceed on main route
