I actually programmed my own version of this not that long ago. O_o It runs in the background and is enabled by pressing a certain button on the keyboard, but instead of sounding a constant alarm it's just one loud beep each time movement is detected.
Hi, I have on my W700ds special anti theft system build in on hardware layer, but it's has couple things what I don't want. But this tool could be sometimes handy, nice job. Could you send me a link to this tool?
sooooo if my laptop is getting stolen by a huge guy and i run and tell him to stop...i dont think he'll give me my laptop back...but he will give me an ass woopin! lol
neat idea, perhaps make the sound come from the system speaker, more foolproof that way. most people who want to walk off with a laptop in a public place wont think about turning off the laptop pulling out the battery. i can see it still needs work but it is a neat idea...
That's 5 seconds for the alarm to go off, and someone to notice it. This is, again in beta, so I'm sure they could make the program run incognito and the thief not even know it's on.
NO! They are two totally diffrent technologies. The sensor in the thinkpad is actually way more sensitive and accurate thatn the ones found in the apple mac
Ok, this might be. However, both do their job well, and even the sudden motion-sensor from MacBooks (Pro/Air) is very accurate (just run an application called "SeisMac" and you'll see).
This is only a software feature. Hence the notebook has to be on, so really no great advantage if in your bag in the library or bus? no that means if u steal a desktop wid a 21" crt it will make a noise lol. Not a hardware ie Lenovo selling feature really?
Yes this is only a software feature. It's meant to work in the situation like if you were in a library and you suddenly want to use the restroom, you can turn this feature on till you get back. I made it myself, it has nothing to do with Lenovo (except I used its accelerometer).
@Checkmatemate1 Yes, because Lenovo has not considered adding a built in controller that would trigger a max volume alarm, on the motherboard. However if they choose to the accelerometer is built in therefore the main thing that makes this possible is hardware based.
@Checkmatemate1 Yeah still useful though, lets say you're in a coffee shop and go out momentarily for a cigarette, or to get a refill or something, or use the washroom.
@Checkmatemate1 I don't think it's meant for that... I think its meant for, like, you go into the other room, leaving the ThinkPad on. Your brother, who likes to take your stuff, tries to to take. Then the alarm goes off.
this wouldnt stop me from stealing it.. how dumb...

which thinkpads are compatible with your program?

Why not just download an anti-theft program and get a laptop lock?

someone smart who would steal this would simply take out the battery in less than 5seconds

to remove the battery you must get under the laptop, thus moving the laptop, and setting off the alarm
tonyrueb 2 years ago
@tonyrueb Correct, but some IBM Laptops use BIG batterys which hang out the back.... So the stealer could just rip it out without moving it!
