  • As someone that commutes daily from The East End to So. Indiana , the East bridge would make my day easier and faster.

  • Where will the traffic from 64 west, 71/Watterson go? Will they all merge with 65? that could be a mess too.

  • Building more monstrous infrastructure to accommodate individuals in automobiles will soon be as embarrassing as people driving Hummers. Driving is continuing to decline nationwide, even as gas prices ease. So, what would $4 billion in public transit look like? That's something Louisville and Southern Indiana could actually use.

  • Why is there no CGI presentation to show what happens on the other side of the river, where you propose relocating I-64 to?

That has always been the proble with Louisville, for some reason you feel that the moon and sun revolve around you. Has it occured to you that people in New Albany, Clarksville and Jeffersonville, don't really care what your downtown look like?

Don't get me wrong, build the East End Bridge and build it now. but don't try and dump your traffic off on us

  • "Why is there no CGI presentation to show what happens on the other side of the river?" Because nobody in those areas have made one.

You're absolutely right... we should stop thinking about improving Louisville because it might inconvenience someone in Indiana that uses our city as a freeway.

    Please, get real.

  • I work in the ville and live in S. Indiana. I also think that the E. end bridge will make the S. Indy area busier. But you can bet it will boost the S. Indy economy. This will make the N. side of the river less (not more) dependent upon Louisville.

There are plenty of ppl that live in S. Indy, but are dependent upon Louisville for their work. Unfortunately we have no choice but to drive in that spaghetti jct nonsense daily.

We are unfortunately not as indep. of Louisville as you might think.

  • Does L'ville really think people are going to want to live downtown during the 10+ years of construction? If i was a developer downthere i sure would be upset with your clueless Mayor, that promises everything and delivers, well....concrete.

  • Those of us who are properly informed really don't approve of most of the things our mayor does here in Louisville. We love our city, but right now our mayor is garbage.

  • how can you say that about Mayor for life Jerry?

  • haha I can say that very very easily, that's how.

  • L'ville builds and develops residential housing downtown them asks the citizens buying property downtown to deal with the construction for 10 yrs at their doorstep. So backwards once again. Its just laughable at this stage.

Louisville would reap huge rewards for decades with the removal of I-64 and the downsizing of SJ just due to increase in property values on Main St and into the Butchertown areas thus resulting in high property taxes for the city.

  • So let me get this straight, Levi you are more worried about the cost to fix and resod Waterfront Park than the cost to expand SJ and completely ruin downtown Louisville and completely cut the city off from the river plus lose millions of dollars in lost property taxes plus the city spending millions to build Waterfront Park and now covering the park with more concrete.

The most valuable Real Estate within a 90 mile radius will be covered in concrete.

  • Just saying they if they are you're going to complain about the price, might as well state the price of the alternative as well.

Leaves a huge hole in the argument if you do what just happened.

  • It's $2.2 Billion. About half the ORBP.

  • well then I'm all for it

  • They say it's $4.1 billion for the lane widening, but not how much its going to cost for:

    - the tearing down of I-64 (which is huge)

    - building a new bridge on the east end

    - how much it will cost to fix the waterfront after it's been creamed by so many construction vehicles.

No, no, no, I don't like this at all..

  • The best way forward, especially with the recession.

Even if you are opposed to 8664's removal of a section of I-64, you have to admit that building the East End bridge first, and routing 64 over north 265 is clearly a no-brainer. Doing this will divert hordes of interstate and local traffic away from downtown.

If you support Bridges Project, why not advocate building east end bridge first, and then wait & see the traffic it diverts from downtown? Then you may not even need to expand 64.

  • Brilliant, guys...
