  • technology of tomorrow

  • This is it. The final breach of the fourth wall. The Pink Invasion has begun.

  • Dat polygons...

  • Can it be printed hollow instead of fully solid like this?

  • IM THROWING MY MONEY AT THE SCREEN BUT NOTHING HAPPENS!

  • has anyone noticed the scary looking faces on the sides.... fuck. cannotbeunseen

  • @o0o0o0o0lala Where everyone see scary faces ?

I don't see any, maybe because I know the white things on the sides are brackets.

  • @o0o0o0o0lala i saw them too. now i cant stop staring at them

  • @o0o0o0o0lala You should probably just giggle at the ghostly.

  • @o0o0o0o0lala looks like a fucked up murder zoidburg

  • Can I have your edited model please? :) I have access to a PP3DP, Ultimaker, and a Z-Corporation 650 powder printer. I wanna print some ponies!

  • how much 4 printer

  • 3D printing and ponies. Never thought someone else would find space in my heart. You have sir, bravo.

  • Oh, boy! Im gonna buy myself one of those machines!

*Look at the prices* Oh, Fuck You.

  • HELL YES!

  • Looks 10x better than Hasbro's figure.

  • One step forward to create a real life Pinkie Pie. In 5 years we'll invent an anvanced robot Pinkie and another 5 years later in 2022 we'll have created a gene-manipulated Pinkie Pie ^_^

  • Want, want want want want

  • Hasbro! See this? get to it!

  • Most impressive. *slow clap*

  • @Zmaster6030

The materials don't cost much at all and I mean the plastic for the whole model is most likely under $3 depending on where you are.

  • How much did it cost (The printing "materials")

  • The head is a bit too big [the main body is about as big as 2 of their heads side by side], but other than that it looks great!

  • THIS is how you make a toy!

  • You have no idea how much I want both the printer and the pony.

  • I now want a 3D printer

  • The fact that she didn't immediately come to life is surprisingly un Pinkie-like.

  • Seems a bit lowpoly in certain places (tail), you could have smoothed it once or twice before printing. Otherwise, so awesome! Jelly.

  • Amazing

  • pinkie pie? but that's Surprise!

  • What Machine is that?

  • @artixvonkrigor He has a link in the description. Basically, it's a 3D printer that he built himself using the designs on the site in the description.

  • @artixvonkrigor It's a 3D printer, which prints full models.

It's meant for making prototypes of designs in industry. There is a big push to make them more commonplace and use them for consumer use, but the downside is the "ink" that the stuff is printed with is extremely expensive.

  • @trapical I calculated the material cost of this print : approximatively 1€ :)

  • what's with the creepy faces on the left and right

  • Every home on the planet needs one of these.

  • @ironfst25 So the Hasbro would go bankrupt? Srsly, I wonder how 3D printers will change the industrial property law in future.

  • @lulzaccount my thoughts are that they will try and ban these as soon as they become economically feasable for more than 1 in 100 homes to have it. Regardless of whether or not they are sucessful, they will still try (Radio, Television, Cassette Tapes, VCR, CD, DVD, Blue Ray, MP3, ect.).

Rather than spend money on innovation and quality control, the entertainment industry spends it's profits on Lawyers and Lobbying congress to change laws in their favor.

  • I knew this would eventually happen! Awesome job!

  • Looks cool and all, but... the surface is not smooth. I mean, look at the tail.

  • WANT

  • I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

  • What the hell are the things in the back corner of the printing surface!?!

They look like creepy masked gremlins or something....

  • Oh... my... gosh! It is magnificent! Confound these ponies, they drive me to get a 3D printed Pinkie Pie! :D

  • Dear Hasbro, Get your *squee* together. We would ALL buy these. You are sitting on a gold mine but you are still trying to sell us coal.

    You're faithful student,

    Twilight Sparkle

  • @CoCoSkol Hasbro, Y U NO GET HINT!

  • And Hasbro produces subpar toys. Anyways this is an amazing video. Subscribed.

  • I got creeped out by the thing at the right that looks like a face D:

    Great work though!

  • That is so smooth. Great job at this.

  • im throwing my screen att the money but nothing is happening, am i doin it right?

  • Serious questions:

    Will these be painted?

If so, do you intend to paint them yourself or commission someone to paint them for you.

Will these go up for sale? If so when?

And finally, the question on everyone's minds, how much?

  • @TheMcSqueakers No, I didn't planed to paint them. I'm not going to sale them either but if you really want 3D printed ponies, companies like shapeways offer a 3D printing service and they can print in color.

  • @Nerdtron44 why where they made then? if your not gonna sell them i guess you are planning to keep it for your self but if you don't want it painted i guess its not for display,,,so why where they made

  • I have been looking at doing the same thing. I have a reprap from makergear i have been meaning to print ponies for ages but i haven't been able to get my calibration right get. everything i print is still off and i cant get the support raft settings working. Any advice would be great..

  • Needs more polygons... I have no clue about 3D printing so I don't know if it would be a problem for the printer if you increase the polygons to remove the edges a bit though

  • I'm interested in buying a reprap. How much was it? :D

  • Shut up and take my money!

  • It would be clever if the 3D printer could build the support structure with a different material that dissolves in water, so that you could just wash it off.

  • @asymmetrisch professional FDM 3D printers use solvable support structures. Maybe one day I will build a dual extruder to do that too.

  • @Nerdtron44 Thank you for the link on how building a 3D printing machine, I really want to open a business of making custom made stuff with 3D printer. Is this machine can be used for mass production?

  • I WANT ONE!!! :D She's my favorite pony and I want a 3D model of her like that!

  • Who needs the toys when you can make exactly show-accurate prints?!

  • let's print all the porn

  • All of my yay.

  • wow. you can see the polys.

  • You need a color printer.

  • How fragile is this? Or for that matter, what material is this made of?

  • @Garinovitch It's made out of plastic. It's sturdy as long as you don't have areas that are too thin supporting a lot of weight; in this model, the tail connection is likely to break because it's supporting the rest of the tail and it's not very thick. It should be fine if you just want to display it somewhere.

  • What is the final size and weight?

  • @LeandroPardini 73mm high and weight 22g

  • If only Hasbro would make toys (mass-produced) like this!

  • I'm a sculptor myself and I absolutely adore that polygon look of the finished product. I could never in a million years create such a look by hand. I'm also pleased the machine is only slightly faster than me at making ponies. :3

  • Do rainbow dash :D

  • @gobblinskillz I will print her, but first I'll print the next best pony after Twilight and Pinkie Pie :D

  • @Nerdtron44 Talking about Applejack? ;)

I really think this is a cool thing to do! If I had a 3d printer I would except for one thing that's holding me back. The cleaning the supports off. Is that difficult? It seems like one wrong move would totally ruin it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @misa18amaneyt most of the support structure breaks easily but there are some remains on the surface that need to be cleaned with a file. On fragile part like Pinkie's tail, you have to be very careful.

  • LIke a boss.

  • So she finally broke the 4th wall...

  • Your X-axis and extruder catch my eye. Is there any info about your printer build?

  • Would you technically be able to sand these models without revealing the support structure below to give it less of a N64 graphics look (for lack of better terminology)?

  • @Al3xHarmon Yeah, I didn't increase the resolution enough on this print, the polygons are too visible. The next prints will be made from a more precise model, it's easy to increase the number of polygons with blender.

I will print an improved Pinkie too, this one fell and breaks her tail :(

  • did you used skeinforge for the support, or did you add the support structure in blender?

  • @erangalor

I used skeinforge support structure function with these settings :

    -Cross hatch enabled

-Support Feed Rate over operating Feed Rate (I've added this parameter) : 3

-Support Flow Rate over operating Flow Rate : 1

    -Support gap : 0

    -Everywhere

    -70°

This gives light support structures that are easy to remove and printed faster.

  • Magnifique boulot, Pétrus .
