Basically, what I'm trying to say is that bands as generic, cliched, and under-developed as Alesana don't deserve NEARLY as much devoted fans and credit as bands like Hands Like Houses, who even though they only have like 2 real songs on YouTube, do this genre a million times better. Seriously, look it up. The best song is called Lion Skin. And if you EVEN say this band is better, then I don't know what to say, because it's clear you don't have ears.

The difference between this band and the ones you mentioned though were that those bands managed to evolve in one way or another. Sure, the core sound still sounds the same, but they've managed to make each prospective sound their own. Killswitch started out as typical metalcore and took on this whole operatic soaring metalcore vibe, same with All That Remains. But props for hating BVB. Yuck.

Seriously, this song might have been awesome like, 8 years ago when this type of music was cool. Fuck, my first band sounded a lot like this in 2003... But bands have to progress at some point.
