  • HI dave, Awesome skills on the 7 string,

probelley you got an endorsment with ibanez, but check out verdonkguitars.nl . If you like guitars with massive tone, massive sustain and lot's of clairity.

I orderd a 7 string barritone and it's almost finnished.

    keep up the great posts.

  • Nice job, man! i still have that one on an f-ing cassette tape! LOL

    keep it up!

  • please cover more songs....and show how to play....you the man....great..

  • Very nice dude, please check in my channel, me player this song(live).

  • every song in that disc is so WOW!!

    You nailed Dave

I will be watching this to learn some parts!

    Thanks for posting it

  • dude i like the way you express yourself with the guitar when she screams you scream too... nC connection ;)

  • Nice work with Steve Vai

Wish you the best success you rock!

  • Some parts of this song remind me of Death/Control Denied.

  • I love coming back to this video. Dave, you should do a lesson about this solo. Marty would appreciate it! Ha.

  • arent you the guy i saw in G3 with Malmsteen and Vai?

  • i really like how you use the 7th B very nice :)

  • feels good to nail it dont it? that was awesome

  • Both Marty Friedman and Steve Vai are my idols and I gotta tell ya Dave, you kick ass brother! It's no wonder you're on Steve's tour band and I believe you make Marty proud on one of his most awesome songs! Rock on brother!

  • superb playing, you obviously love playing guitar and it's great to listen to

  • Love the faces, but seriously great cover

  • 2:23 - 2:40 ... tasty.

  • 10 thumbs up for the attitude and awesome playing

  • dave AMAZING..please do more of these covers :D

  • Awesome,,,,simply awesome! I just stumbled upon this, and I fell in love with it, immediately! Nothing like some Marty Friedman to not nly get the blood pumping, but the mind expanding, as well!

  • this probably has nothing to do with the video...but i truely respect and admire the fact that dave actually takes some of his time and responds back to people when they comment him..honestly you barely see that nowadays..but anyways awsome cover dave...love your music...and keep it up.

  • Dude you are fuckin knarly. Amazing tone, sick emotion, and it seems effortless. Definitaley a fan.

  • This video really got me listening to Friedman, terrific cover.

  • That was awesome Dave! I never really payed much attention to Friedman but this song has really changed my mind!

    Quick question...:

What kind of picks do you use for fast playing (or everything)?

    Just curious what you prefer.

I have been trying to get faster but my usual picks are too weak for it, they flex too much and it sounds sloppy.

    Thanks for the videos man.

  • @EstevanMusic - Thx man. I use Red Bear Big Jazzer H.

  • @DAVEWEINER k thanks dave! :)

  • @EstevanMusic the picks that i fell in love with are the red colored Jim Dunlop Jazz 3's. amazing for shredding and sweeping IMO!!

  • WOW Dave, I have never seen you play like that. I honestly didn't know you could do some of the things that you are doing one this video. I have never seen you sweep pick like that. I guess I always knew you could do it but just never really seen it. That is some amazing playing. Marty is one of my favorite players of all time and my respect for you as a player just grew even more. Just amazing man!

  • Great cover man, not really worthy to comment on technique of yours, but it seems to really capture the intent and feel of Marty's bends/vibrato.

  • nice

  • Hey Dave! Have you ever met Marty?

  • good job Dave, your to modest ...Your one of top players on the scene...Marty Would respect you ..

  • excelente muy bien chamacooo

  • omg guitar with 7 strings :D

  • That exotic melodies are very south asian-ish. I am not sure if marty has heard and was directly influenced by traditional south asian music or has he been just experimenting with exotic and diatonic scales.

I'm certain I've heard very similar melodies if not exact at ( 1:38 - 1:44 ) played traditional indonesian instruments, by gamelan (a traditional Indonesian musical ensemble)

  • when the solo part started, and the more "major-sounding" portion of it came along, i suddenly felt like eating chinese food.

  • shouldn't you be practicing for a Vai tour?

    Good playing though.

  • I really like the dynamics in your picking. that is something that a lot of players have seemed to overlook nowadays.

When everything is played in an almost "monotone" way, it really makes the music loose its emotion.

  • Great playin dude. And by the way, great faces, i mean it, playing music it's all about the feeling you put it, and you obviously do.

  • if the tuning ov the top six strings is drop d, if he holds the last string at the third fret, the note will be a d, so i think so

  • nice guitar cover!!!

  • wow nice technique bro, good playing

  • what pickup has this ibanez because i dont hear a very high gain distortion or its just u who changed the settings?

  • this is his own custom model, so he put what ever pickup he wanted

  • Marty' s solos are always crazy.

  • very nice

  • badass

  • So cool that you posted this song! Well done, by the way.

  • RIFF QUESTION:

Dave, you hit a bend at 0:50-0:51. How did you get that bend / sound? Did you start picking the note while the string was already bent?

I'm happy you chose this song - great!

  • I guess he did a short bend and release and immediately after that, another one but not as fast. The first is more like a trill but only on one fret... Sort of... A grace note is another way of seeing it

  • yh its called a pre-bend

  • is that a 7 string tuned 1 step down??

    you're amazing!!

  • Nope, it's in drop D. I'm not sure what he did with the low B but I think he left it and all the other strings to their natural 440 tuning

  • you have an amplifier ENGL SCREAMER?

  • The only amps I have are Fryette Ultraleads and a Fender Bassman.

  • @DAVEWEINER WOW but the ones that you have are expensive as hell O.o

  • have you got a marshall?

  • No, haven't found one I like yet.

  • @DAVEWEINER Nice response.

  • You sir are amazing at guitar and I cower in your presence..lol

  • Nice job, Dave! You're certainly not one to disappoint.

  • thats wat she said!!!

  • nice one.

  • Nice job!

It's weird hearing the Marty sound while looking at a picking arm that doesn't look like it's about to be snapped off in a Jujitsu submission. ;-)

  • It´s dropped-D ?

  • what are those 2 chords in the beginning?

  • Would Vai or Satch ever go after a Marty Friedman for the G3 tour?

  • They certainly should because imo Marty is better then Yngwie by far rofl.

  • yeah i agree yngwie is a good guitarist but it gets boring hearing his non stop barouqe classical constant scale playing up and down the neck extremely fast there's no melody to it but as like ^^DAVE and the other guys write way better songs cause they dont sound the same and they have different ideas and their own unique way of playing

  • I don't think so, but hey that would be a pretty sick g3 jam with marty improving alongside vai and satch

  • Is Ibanez ever going to release a signature version of your guitar? That would be killer.

  • Yes, once I join Dragonfierce.

  • Haha.

    More like StudioForce.

  • WOW! that was cool Dave! I use to play along with that song all the time when it first came out. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! You nailed it!

  • this is a great song and you rox dude ;) greetings from Chile

  • hey do u happen to recall a guy u played a show with named matt mills? well if u do hes my guitar teacher and some of ur music came up in our lessons so i thought it was pretty cool idk abt u but haha i figured i would tell you

  • great stuff dave. love it

  • wow great playing, your high notes just scream dude.... *jealousy*

  • I don;t know why, but when you open your mouth wheny our rockin out, it really bothers me. hahaha It makes it seem like you;re in a lot of pain.

  • haha I'm not. It's just emoting. I don't try to do it, I don't think about it. It just happens.

  • I think the emoting is a good thing. It proves you are feeling the music as opposed to just mulling through it....I emote myself and make no apology...lol....good work Dave...

  • Hey Dave, I call it orgasmating...the problem for me is I have to change my shorts repeatedly throughout the gig!..;)

  • Did you record this with Logic 9?

  • No, the track was playing in itunes and the camera picked up his audio and mine.

  • Hi Dave.

    Nice cover, and quite unexpected.

I like your own style more though. :)

  • me too.

  • That was way cool Dave!!! more covers please, maybe of some stuff that has inspired u over the years!

  • nice to see some shredding without all of the dumb whammy bar tricks and over used pinch harmonics from somebody for a change

  • Razor Dave Weiner!

  • Best metal solo face since Jeff Waters.

I enjoyed a lot seeing you shred; most of us already know you're the man, but it's always good seeing something like this once in a while.

  • Awesome! Nice guitar face too...

Is this a newer Marty Friedman song?

  • Nope, it's from his first solo album, Dragon's Kiss.

  • It´s from Marty´s very 1st album. Dragon's Kiss is the debut studio album by guitarist Marty Friedman, released in 1988 on Shrapnel Records.

  • hey Dave, I wonder if Marty ever used a 7 string guitar...

  • yeah...!! very intense song. please make these kind of videos one in a while

  • Allright! At last we see Dave shred. More of these, please!

  • Wow that was unexpected

  • WE WANT MORE COVERS PLEAASEE !!!!!!!

  • This guy could really battle with VAi at speed anyways :D

  • very nice dave

  • It also reminds me when Frieman used to play with the awesome Jason Becker! Amazing song! Congratulations, Dave!!! You nailed it! Excellent legatos!!

  • wow a cover! sick you never do that! haha

  • hell yeah, your a great shredder. you should play more metal

  • indeed METAL M E T A L M-E-T-A-L!!!!

  • Marty has an unique style and very hard to "play", you've got the escence of his sound, bends, technique... cool!

  • I've been trying to learn Marty's "Symphony of Destruction" solo for years, I still can't do it, lol.

    This is amazing, man!!

  • That was awesome!!!! :D

You and Marty should go on tour :P

  • Dave, your ROTW series are awesome !

Thank you so much for doing this, you are one amazing player!!!

    All the best,

    Lars

  • holy shit! marty friedman is one of my favorites! love the song! japanese influence is clear. well done... very well done

  • Ahhh.. Marty is the man and so are you!

  • So much energy! Good work.

  • Top notch cover.

Might I suggest some Rush for your next cover? :)

  • Hi Dave! This was really a great performance. The Japanese style solo line would be cool as Riff of the Week ;-). Take care, kind Regards, Dimi.

  • Dave your one of the most amazing youtube/worldwide guitarists.

Your job on all videos is amazing.

  • Thx very much. I appreciate the kind words... that goes for all the comments.

  • You know what is so cool about this? Yes Dave pulled an excellent cover and played the thing beautifully but here is this famous world famous guitarist just sitting there playing a song that he likes and jamming it out. That is what guitar playing is really all about.

    Great work Dave!

  • Cool :)

  • wow, keep up the covers, this one was incredible.

  • You won't see me doing too many covers. Anyone can do covers. All it takes is some technical ability. But there's no originality or creativity. But, they're fun now and then. I'll be doing some jazz/fusion covers that'll make this look silly.

  • haha well I can't wait to see those jazz/fusion covers. Sure anyone can do a cover, but few can make that cover sound like the original, or better yet, make it as or more enjoyable to the listener as the original song.

  • what model of guitar is that

  • It's an Ibanez LACS

  • i wish you would do i'm the hell outta here..damn must have been awesome on the stage with vai and sheehan.

  • And MAcAlpine

  • wow that was great you should record the other guitar part and make a split screen video of you palying both bits! do you know any other freidman songs or becker or cacophony? itd be cool to hear you take on them if you do!

  • sounds like phrygian dominant

  • Dave what scale/mode is that starting at :46? I dig the sound. Very eastern sounding.

  • 1. Rewardingly beautiful

  • Sweet faces Dave. ;) Love this song, well done!

  • pick up some of that guitar face from Mr. Vai? lol...love the video man!

  • lol i was thinking the same thing!

  • Awesome! I always wanted to know how you sound with heavy distortion since you seem to never use it for the ROTWs and as excpeted.. you sound amazing! :D

Thanks so much for your videos!

  • Wow! Great playing. I just got home and still have to do lotsa work stuff (10:42PM here). I needed a boost and your performance helped a lot ;) !!

  • Simply excellent Dave..I'm looking forward to those lessons!!! Man this was good..Absorb everybody..ABSORB!!

  • Great playing!

  • wow, bassmans can do everything, cant they?

  • You know, we're covering this song with my band (were I only play the rhythm chords instead of the harmonized parts with the 1st guitar.) and the lead guitarrist wanted me to have a go at it, and try to lay the parts down.

This video showed me a great perspective and encouraged me to work hard on it.

Thanks a lot Dave, keep on rocking! :)

  • Amazing stuff! Thank you for a great show.

  • That was sweet. Very nice Dave.

  • hey Dave, very nice and clean playing! is it your guitar straight into the bassman? with a bit of reverb maybe?

  • This was into an EH Micro Metal Muff for rhythm then into a Keeley TS808 for the lead work only, then into an EH Holy Grail Plus then into the Bassman.

  • This is why I subscribe to you, Dave! Very very awesome. Marty Friedman would probably give you a pat on the back for that one.

  • i love at the high note parts where dave trys to make i seem like he is singing it

  • Amazing!

  • this is amazing lol

  • whoaa dave, it's really cool , good job ... Marty Friedmen Rulezz

  • Dave, you need to patent your signature "hand flick". I find myself doing it now. It's the "Olé!" after a great riff. You do it quite consistently. I find it to be a cool quirk.

  • the opening riff could be metaliized with a 7 string , the piece keyed in b minor i guess.hey dave maybe you should move out to japan or whever marty and paul gilbert go

  • thats was really great...

  • Omg hahaah i was just listening to this song love it

  • ...what just happend?!

  • Awesome sounds dave!!!!

  • Wow dave, a shred side, it sounds very nice and perfect

  • Good lord. you are the master Dave. You have my vote for posting more covers. See you wednesday for ROTW!

  • just incredible!

  • all Four Thumbs up !!!!! LOL

  • Dave, GREAT JOB man!

Your TIMING, INTONATION, and TONE are impeccable!!!

BTW, for a moment I TOO thought iwas Wednesday (re:R.O.T.W.!!!!)

    R.O.T.W. has become my

    "mid-week-alarm-clock-reminder!"

P.S. If you guys (you & Marty) do a show together in the future, perhaps you could sit-in on this AWESOME song?!?

  • He asked if I'd join his band for a short tour so this was one of the tunes wanted me to learn. The tour ended up not happening but this was fun to learn regardless

  • Too bad that the tour didn't happen, I really hope you and Marty do something together sometime, you're both so great at what you do. Oh and awesome tune, great playing:P

  • show off lol but that was awesome!!

  • Marty and Dave together? That's almost like heaven.

  • omfg....nice

  • Awesome Dave! Your great man sweet playing.

  • WOW you should really do more of these!
