Shame Levine rushes the finale and robs the music of it's greatness. Karl Bohm was so much better when I heard him conduct Figaro some years ago. Great cast.
@TheVaughan5 Do you mean the final part of the finale, from the allegro assai? We're doing a production of this right now and really Levine isn't taking it THAT much faster than what it's supposed to be. A tad, but hardly.
The scene where he asks for forgiveness and she gives it is my favorate of all opera scenes EVER. It gives me chills. The count is a good guy after all, LOL.
Wow, how Beautiful! I would love to see this Opera live. I've only seen Rigoletto live. I have seen several on the telly and this one on youtube. I would LOVE to perform at the met someday. It's been my dream since the 4th grade when I watched Cats for the first time XD
What a cast all at the peak of their careers. One of the most sublime moments in opera when the Countess forgives her husband and so beautifully portrayed by Fleming who must be among the greatest Countesses of all time. Terfel and Bartoli are joyfully witty and the remainder of the cast make this an operatic treat. It couldn't be better
I just have to add my thanks to you Anatole. I have been an opera fan for many years and love Mozart's work - I'm a huge fan of Cosi and Don Giovanni. But somehow I never quite 'got' Figaro. I have tried many times over the years but I never was quite able to make it capture my soul in the way the others have...... Until now! I've just watched the whole thing, and I now finally get it!. so thank you for these posts. You've given me a treasure to enjoy for many years. 8=)
AnatoleBelge, I cannot thank you enough for uploading this wondrous production of such an incredible opera. I would not have had the opportunity to see this incomparable production of the Met if it weren't for you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
@ AnatoleBelge I saved my thank you for this last clip. I really enjoyed watcing it. Thank you so much for uploading the whole opera. But I would also like to know if it's from a TV show or a DVD or what.
I like music of ALL sorts, and I have to wonder... How can 1 minute and 8 seconds of music be so mind-altering? Listen to the last 68 seconds of the opera, from 5:59 to 7:07... Absolutely my favorite music on the planet. "Corriam tutti a festegiar!" Indeed!
this is perfection although i can hear more of the soprano line then the bass tenor and baritone lines they make up or it in the beauty and enthusiasm and power
I too finished watching this opera in its entirety, and I would like to thank you so very much for bringing this treasure to the public. Productions like these are what makes classical music timeless, and to view such fantastic material on YouTube is quite ground-breaking. I hope this opens eyes for many a-person, for being an opera major myself, more people need to see productions like these to bring opera alive again. And it is quite alive in this video. Thank you so very much for posting.
I just finished watching the opera. thank you AnatoleBelge this was a beautiful night for me. this production of Nozze was incredible in every way. my dreams tried to transcend to that night at Met in 99. and what a cast.... WHAT A CAST... they were magnificent, all of them. thank you for the post once again
Truly a classic moment of Eighteenth-century art, this opera has always been successful and world-renowned. That is why it is predominately featured in the movie.
@whatthecello42 "I saw on the stage a woman, dressed in her maid's clothes, hearing her husband speak the tenderest words to her he had in years because he thought she was someone else. And then her voice, a soaring forgivnesss, we were all forgiven." I believe is how Salieri put it in the "Amadeus". One of the best and truest movie lines ever!
For the record, this very same production (by Jonathan Miller) was first unveiled in Vienna's Theater an der Wien in May of 1991 with this splendid cast. It was released on video by SONY and is now long overdue for rerelease on DVD.

When I listen to the music the countess sang,
I am so touched.
I was thinking that this is the opera Mozart's want,
which performers are not just screaming and rolling their eyes .
