Both. It's an accessory in terms that it is a memory cart for the SEGA Dreamcast. It's a game console, because you can put a game on it (via Dreamcast) and play it standalone.
how about buy a dreamcast? this is a memory card for a dreamcast. what are you doing with a memory card without the system? buy some games and play them. some of the games have the games for the vum you can put on them and play. there are other places online that have some can get but have to look for them.
@kasm279 i hate the way youtube does stuff. what i said was in a series of replys can see by clicking on "short by thread" at top when you click on view all comments. keep looking for the dreamcast and some games. you should like it if you liked gamecube and ps2. can give links that show how the dreamcast can do better graphics then others just by the way it does them (drawing only what you can see but not what's behind other stuff off screen).you need a dreamcast to use the vmu tool blueswirl.
@james42519 I don't have a gamecube or PS2 (yet) but I do have an N64, PlayStation, and an Xbox. I'm expecting something a little lower than the Xbox is. I also found out about BlueSwirl, so as soon as I have a dreamcast and cables I'm set!
@kasm279 that's good. they can be a lot of money. still think $50 is too much for a xbox. don't worry about it you will get stuff eventually. just look at thrift stores. i have nes,(new christmas)snes,(traded a $1 yoyo for it and 4 nes games)N64,($40. little high)sega genesis/sega cd,(free with games) gamecube,(free) ps2 slim,(only one bought new $130. got 2 fat free and they work) 3 dreamcast. (no hookups and 1 controller $7.50, 2 controller and hookups, $8, 3 controllers and hookups $10)
@james42519 My xbox was $5, plus $5 for an AV cable and $33.13 for a new DVD drive. N64 was $40 with 7 games, PlayStation (a 7501 model) was $15 with three AV cables (one being S-Video) and a controller. Oh, I softmodded my xbox and play N64 games I don't yet have on it :D

@kasm279 oh sorry this is about the 3d engine thing. not sure how you would do this but i am sure you need a dreamcast to still do it.

I have Crysis run at MAXIMUM graphics on my VMU :D
Superduperhog 2 years ago 3
there's a rendering of a 3d tennis court on the vmu when u play power smash 2.
hokman1 2 years ago 10
lol proved this guy wrong about his useing all the vmu power theory.
t377y000 2 years ago
a render doesn't mean real-time 3D, like this simulates. A render is a static picture.
abdigon 2 years ago
@hokman1 But that's rendered on the Dreamcast itself. In contrast, this 3D-Engine runs directly on the VMU.

ranpo677 3 years ago 3
Nope, I got a Core 2 Extreme and 8800GTX with Vista Ultimate, and 3 GB of RAM, and I can't get it to work.
TheGeek1028 3 years ago 2
I have a 4 year old dell which can play the crysis demo
mattseal65 3 years ago
Well, I can run it, just not at full 3D rendering. What you'd expect out of, like, a Quad Core.
TheGeek1028 3 years ago
Of course Crysis works on it, set it to 1x1 and it should run.
bogart266 3 years ago
