The first time I ever heard this song, I was at a live performance of the show (which, incidentally, cast Roger Bart as Leo. Roger Bart played Carmen in the movie). They replaced "fuck" with "shtupp," so the first time I heard the uncensored movie version, I just about had a heart attack. Then I laughed so hard I choked.
@DairDubh I know German not Yiddish but I'm pretty the the first part is something like "All people must do..." and the rest is bullshit. I think it may be German passed off as Yiddish.
I listened to the director commentary on the DVD. They cut this song, because the things about Max's character are more evident on camera with close-ups than on stage. They felt they were being redundant in the first scene with Max and Leo.
You can say it once in a film and still be PG-13. They joked about it in Be Cool, as bad as that one was. Still a shame, though. I'd have loved to see this without having to go to the deleted scenes menu on the DVD. It's truly brilliant.
@aceofspades3571 Uhm, sorry, but they curse a lot in the entire movie. In Along Came Bialy the old ladies sing ejaculation, I don't think fuck was the problem. XD

I can't believe they cut this! This was a staple of the show!

Well why the heck did they cut this out of the movie anyway??
Owlzindabarn 2 years ago 11
I think they cut it because they wanted it to be
PG-13, and they say 'fuck' in the song.

Maybe they cut it because the movie is too long.
So they cut many Scene.
The movie is two hours long...

@EditDeath: Beetlejuice had one "fuck" in it (as well as "Spaceballs") and it's rated PG. Am I right?

@EditDeath It would have been good to have it included as an 'extended version' in the dvd rather than just deleted scenes.
