The E71 is a very durable phone. I put Joiku on it and my wifi stopped working all together. The E71 is an ok phone but Nokia has taken away all of the good software. Leaving a good phone with garbage software, all around.
I know this video is about a year old now... but I'm not able to find the Joiku app in the ovi app store. did they discontinue it or what? PLEASE HELP ME!

Hay i got the E-71 and Straight Talk just shut me down 4 using 2 much data. UNLIMITED MY ASS!!! LOL!! Now im out $200 and plus $45 for the card. Just wondering if u know if they bricked my phone or can i use my E-71 on att now?
With regard to tethering, companies don't take notice until a few people start using it for large downloads (netflix, torrents, etc). It's when a few do this, that the major companies clamp down and the rest of use light tethering (email, browsing) become collateral damage. Stay under the radar, they monitor usage and any pattern that is atypical will get attention.
I installed Fring on my Ipod Touch 4g and my brother also installed it on his Droid X and video calling does work if you use the Droid X in front of a mirror.

But obviously there is an app for this very thing (Joiku), so I was wondering if you knew what the scoop was. The Joiku app is a HUGE plus for this phone. Thanks.
@scribesntribes, Well tethering is against TOS for ANY carrier. though most everyone does it. If they can. My brother has Verizon, and uses the Motorola Droid X. He was able to use his tether app when he first got the phone a couple of months ago but he said of recently that Verizon installed some software that locks out tethering somehow. So if you wants to be able to tether then he needs to pay there tether service fee. Which is like an extra $20 a month.

The reason why I use it to watch movies and videos is cause the Data speeds through the my phone (At&t) are a good amount faster then my home network. I have slow DSL, I only pay $20 a month so cant complain. I have also used it on the go when away from home, tethering it to my laptop. I am in a 3.5G area, so my Data speeds average 1.5mb (DOWN) and 150kb-300kb (UP). Sometimes I peak up to 3.2mb
Just a heads up about data usage and tethering to PC. I have tethered my ST E71 to my laptop numerous times now and a couple in the amount of almost 600mb at a time. I have noticed that when I pass around 300mb, At&t throttles me down to almost 2G-2.5G speeds. Atleast until the next day. This is not uncommon among the carriers to do. Even with unlimited plans, and At&t is the worst at it from what I hear.
You need to have your Wifi off in order to turn on your Joiku app. Also make sure you email app is set to offline mode. Then try and to turn on your Joiku.
@csy30076 Can't get Fring to work. Can you do a how to install and set up Fring on the Nokia E71 from Straight Talk? I installed Fring, but can not Fring to another Fring cell phone. There are "signal strength" marks next to the Fring test call (test call worked with video), but not next to any of my contacts. I tried to Fring to a Skype puter. That didn't work either. I d/l both Fring and Skype on my phone...nothing seems to work as far as video calling. It is not simple, it does not work.
@Cracor1, Fring does not support Fring to Skype calling. So thats why you couldn't call a Skype account. You said that the Fring test call worked, but not next to any of your contacts. Can you explain, cause that, to me, makes no sense. The other person you are trying to make a video/voice call to has to have a Fring account. Once you know they do enter that persons Fring ID, Just like Skype and then make the call.
so do you think joiku app has changed slighty? i have downloaded the light version and i can not get it to work..... i open app and hit start: it states Allow sharing your internet connnection with external devices? {yes}... Access point..i scroll down to tracfone internet and hit ok... Starting joikuspot access point{ unable to start joiku.... i have deleted and downloaded again with the same problem.,... am i a retart?>
@lowcourier i always have everything use the 'tracfone browser' i actually dont know the difference between the browser and internet connections..i guess that's a question i could ask as well..

@ozmanmanofoz Unlimited is actually limited to 5GB/month from what I last read. It's in the terms somewhere I think.

i tether my ipod touch 2nd gen with no problem using joiku lite.. i use pandora and 5-0 scanner for live feeds and have no lag...
