Beautiful fish, awesome video! I've never seen my male balloon mollies display this behavior, but then again they aren't nearly as nimble and agile as this sailfin-- I did have one that would always do little tricks with his gonodopodium, like making it go up and down or spinning it around in circles, just before mating. It was pretty funny.
I got a horrible case of ich, wiped out my male guppies. Broke my heart. I just bought potbelly mollies hoping they'll be a sturdier fish. I can't stand to go through the devastation of another mass tank loss.
love your music. it sooooooooo says amore'. I'm very sorry your fish died. It can hurt when they die because they can be so entertaining and you get attached. I hope your new tank will bring you equal joy
urm thats nice but not really they dont do much i hardly ever noticed they were there it is sad but not like mournin and cryin sayin 'my fish died ' well i dont know i never got attached to um i just sed to mum when i was little ''hey mum'' '' wat'' '' the fish died'' ''oh'' i got attached to my hamster he hasnt died yet and hes 4 yrs old which is good they normally only live to 5
oh i have a silver molly and a balloon molly, um i dont have them in the same tank. the lady at my pet store says that the silver molly is aggresive and might kill the balloon molly. FYI
They are tropical, so the weather doesn't change much for fish in the tropics, unless you're counting them being in a pond, where there would be a dry vs rainy season. So essentially, they breed all the time, very soon after having babies.
Wow. That balloon molly is very pregnant. Did she have babies after this video? Also, do you leave your tank lights on all day? I'm leaving my aquarium lights on all day now because apparently it benefits mollies. Is this true?
Pretty much all animals need a day and night cycle- (for some, it's extremely important to their health) so, unless balloon mollies are freakish, (other than their baby making abilities that is) I'm sure that's not really beneficial to them ;)
Mollies eat algae - so the lights grow algae faster... but unless you're not producing any - I'd leave the lights off for atleast 12 hours a day to protect against an algae bloom
Haha, thanks. I don't keep mollies anymore. I don't have much success with them, unfortunately. I keep all other common livebearers, kribs, zebra danios, bettas, cory cats, and bristlenoses. I keep my lights on 12 hours a day now, because I have live plants.
That's not cross breeding, they're the same species. Any Molly you find in the aquarium trade are different combinations of similar species. A balloon can mate with a sailfin and have just balloon fry, just sailfin fry or a combination of Balloon Sailfin mollies. You want to make a nice group of mollies mate a Balloon with a Sailfin-Lyretail.
I had a turtle that slowly ate the guppies in the tank. Didn't know it was doing that. Noticed guppie tails were getting shorter. Then one day I saw it. It opened it's mouth behind a guppie, and 'vacuumed' it in!
i bought my guppies male and female, 2 weeks ago, and they still didnt mate, one is silver colour with yellow tail, and one is like see through sorta or like light beige with a reddish orange tail. any help?
There are less chances for a fancy guppy to mate with a different fancy guppy. They need clean tank with warm water to breed, try to get two-three males to see results.
I had two mollies, a tiger female, and a white purl male, i got some wierd lookin babys, mostly peppered babys, some black and some a mix, none like the parents though.
HE IS PROBLY A MIX OF SAILFIN AN REGULAR MOLLY SO HE JUST HAS THE TRAITS... OR HE IS THE ONLY MALE IN UR TANK

Mollys are live bearers which means they give birth like humans so they can't lay eggs.

wow he's really after her, my male doesn't care about females lol, he only loves food!

Thanks Natalia,
I guess its the food you are feeding that's making your male lazy :), try feeding live worms.
mdluqman 3 years ago
maybe, they also kind of new to the tank, maybe they need some time to get used to it. :)

All the best with your New Tank, take care of them like babies.

whats a fancy guppy?
terriaki1 3 years ago
The ones you got are called fancy guppies. Which are very sensitive, compared to the mass breeding normal guppies.
mdluqman 3 years ago
Ohh, do you know how the normal mass breeding ones look like?
terriaki1 3 years ago
they will breed whenever they like to and drop fry every 20-30 days. they are fuck machines. lol!
