The Allison powered Mustangs had the carburetor intake atop the engine cowling, Merlin engined ones don´t.

Also the B and later models had the air scoop of the radiator separeted a few inches from the plane belly for better aerodynamic flow

Has a C-model got an Allison engine, or had they gotten the Merlins in them by then?

i flown on one

it has good flight characteristics but its no better then D model

the reason why they came out with the p51d is that the p51c has very poor rear visability.

The bubble top had a purpose but it did create a lot of drag :( Broke up the aerodynamics of the fuselage a little, and made it look a little ugly .
