  • Funny how in this video you mispronounced Kulemin's name....

  • Comment removed

  • FRÖÖÖÖÖGREN !!!!

  • paise at 0:03

  • relax you nutty maple laugh fans the wings are where they are and the laughs are where they are

    GO Wings

    and laughs (losers since '67)

  • suck my dick mrnaji

  • i give you a +1

  • you may not like mrnaji but he tells the truth

  • laughs? haha good one...

  • lol the laughs???...thats as stupid as me calling ur wings the shmings

  • no, you call them the dead wings or dead things, and Im critical of the wings more than anything else, especially with our D

  • really what the hell do u think u are the leafs are a team if we lose or win were still a team

  • Ass. Just pure ass. Shitty ass = Wings

  • haha i love the intro man you rule

  • LMAO HOLMSTROM

  • cheers to toskola..

and then he had to ruin it :(

  • I honestly liked Schenn in this game. He tanked it up!

  • im a leaf fan but that was a fluke win the wings turned the puck over 19 times thats not like them and we lost 6-1 to montreal today so people dont go planning the stlaney cup parades

  • no shyt -.- didn't steve just say that?

  • but I believe we got them back with our 6-3 victory over montreal. season ain't over, and if Don Cherry says they are playoff material this year, you better believe it.

  • lol you thought the leafs would make the playoffs?

  • Yes I can't believe it as well. But, Leafs have a tradition of beating Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Leafs will beat Red wings in any situation.

  • nah i dont think so i think they might of gotten a bit lucky i mean Detroit did nail the post like 5 times

  • NHL 08, Jim Hughson pronounces his Frer-gren.

  • Honestly I think the Leafs are Better of without Sundin cause they depend on him too much look at how they played detriot without sundin, thats what the leafs need Young Guys

  • where the hell is the leafs fan character!?!?!?

  • how do u get a sun tan in Canada

  • cuz...there's....sun?

  • you are right wings did out play the leafs

  • @SteveDangle Comment of the century by MR. DANGLE

  • theres sun. duh.

  • BIGGEST WINGS FAN HERE... Just wanna say that we had a good celebration and it was still a good night, leafs deserve it and if they keep playing like this, they should make the playoffs. Main reason why Detroit lost tonight is because of Hossa, wasn't anywhere to be found after 10 minutes. And so many of Detroit's PP and line 1 offense relies on Hossa. Holmstrom was great, so was Lidstrom and Hudler. We just didn't have it tonight, eventually that will change though. Canucks were awesome too.

  • Steve, I'm not happy with the outcome. But I'm not upset at all. My wings had a grand celebration and I'm very happy that the Maple Leafs have something to build on. What I'm really upset about is the lead man for Def Lepard setting the Cup UPSIDE DOWN! McCarty should've been at the Fox Theater to prevent such a travesty. Why not? If McCarty is on the IR he should be beating up them soccer boys. I bet he could take the drummer down with one hand tied behind his back.... oh.. right.. my bad. :P

  • Grabovski will step up vs. the team that let him go.

  • Lol, great segway - " The Kulemin Dangle> Great to see u for season 2 of LFR!

  • dont count on them making the finales but they might make the playoffs. WE NEED SUNDIN.

  • im a huge leaf fan but the leafs are not going win the cup but they will make the playoffs

  • Sorry Steve my wrath has been cut : If you make fun of les Canadiens Steve Dangle after a win of the Leafs Tomorrow :

I'm gonna jump on a satellite, go to Toronto in less than 20 minutes and beat you! So you better let us win and comment nicely about Carey Price.

Unfair, totally unfair. Now that they have lost Sundin they win just to prove to NHL that they are resilients and that a crew is stronger than one star, even the best one! I hate you Leafs!

  • Life is terribly full of injustice. Leafs played marvelously!

    1) Leafs are reconstructing their team and they prove that they are working actively on it by beating the Stanley Cup Champions on the first game

    2) Tomorrow they meet Canadiens and Canadiens has lost their first game against Buffalo Sabres 2-1 for Sabres in OT shootouts.

  • 3) Young Carey Price shows the same weakness in the corner of the higher zone of the net

    4) Leafs knows exactly where to shoot

    5) Steve Dangle has done a marvelous analysis first video of the season so Leafs fans will transfer to they Leafs the energy required to beat canadiens

    6) If Leafs beat canadiens it will be 2 victories in a row and they will begin their season like lions and Canadiens will accumulate 2 lost then

f you make fun of Canadiens tomorrow Steve Dangle Im gonna ....

  • if vesa plays like that every night, i think we'll do ok.

oh! and also! one guy i thought played great, a young man by the name of johnny mitchell. steve, i'd REALLY like to know what you thought of his play.

  • lol I got 10 bucks cuz the leafs won! Woo go leafs go!!

  • congrats on the win.....stars play tonite WOOTWOOT go STARS!!!!!!

  • its kinda like the bruins and wings switch places bruins 5 goals last night with micheal ryders 100th goal first as bruins and blake wheeler first nhl goal

  • Oh my.... I was in disbelief!!! I had idea how we won that game! But they did and congrats to them! I was really doubting them but hey they proved me wrong!

  • they proved us all wrong

  • Lol... they didn't they.... Lets see if they prove me wrong again today against the habs! Lol

  • let this vid be the first of a great 82(plus postseason :P) keep it up steve

  • They played a very good trap game. I was impressed. I like the looks of the team this game.

  • lol. i actually predicted a Leafs win. Stanley cup hangover!

  • you are not incorrect in saying that haha

  • fuck youre dreamy steve dangle

  • ROFL!

    Not what I expected tbh

But the leafs impressed me last night I gotta admit, I don't think that they were outplayed by the red wings... which is a big surprise for me.

    Gosh I can't WAIT for tonight! :D

    Habs' season opener!!

  • now the Sundin Mccabe and Tucker are gone do u think Kaberle will wavie his no trade at the deadline this year

  • God i'm so embarassed by last night. I don't think i've ever seen so many turnovers, and Ozzie, God Ozzie...you pratically told him "here, score". Who were the SC champs last night? It was hard to tell, unfortunately. The Wings were schooled by the Toronto Maple Leafs. (That caused me Physical pain to say that).

  • As an aside, does anyone know where we might find that "Hockey lives in me" promo that came before the dumb def leppard intro? It (the promo, not d.l.) was perfect.

  • Detroit played bad. Leafs played good. Let the bandwagoning begin.

    I am very bitter.

About the game: I do not agree with you that the Leafs were outplayed. They kept Detroit to the outside most of the game (btw I am going to say now I am so sick of the trap) and Detroit had 19 turnovers compared to the Leaf's five. The Wings looked undisciplined and like they didn't care while the Leafs had momentum and drive. As much as it pains me to say it the Leafs deserved it.

  • Man I haven't been this excited for the leafs since the 2004 playoffs! You know what? I think they can be a stanley cup contender this season. Haha just jk. But seriously, well done leafs!

  • Holmstrom: Hockey's J-Lo. Man I'm gonna use that.

  • I don't like Grabovsky...

Yeah its a good player but...

He is just a Good AHL Player...

    Its just my opinion.

    Sorry for my english :-S

I realy like your video Steve!

  • Your english is much better than my french.

Around the 40-game mark, we'll know what kind of player Grabovski is. Personally, if he gets around 40-45 points this season, I will be happy.

  • Thats so true. Take Alex Daigle or sumthing watever his name is (1st pick for Ottawa in the 93 draft). I remember on one Coaches Corner in 96 or 97 when Don Cherry was talking about how you could be the most skilled player in the world, but if you cant take the physical punishment then you aint belong'n here. Alex got $12 million for his entrance contract (HOLY CRAP, look it up) and was hyped as much as Sid the Kid, but never even made it big in the NHL (250+ points in juniors)

  • HURRAY!!

Wings got clipped by Maple Leafs!!!

  • Kulemin's goal was beauiful...wow

  • Stanley Cup Thisyear..........Well...probably not but playoffs arent out of the question if they continue to play like that, They could be the nashville predators of 2008-2009

  • your intro was EXACTLY what I thought of the game! We did well, but Detroit had some cough ups..

  • I looked out my window several times for flying pigs...

I was impressed with Toskala. I'm also impressed that the Leafs were OUTPLAYED by a team like Detroit and they still won. But was Detroit too cocky? Or were the Leafs really that good? Who knows.

Nice video though, Steve. Good dissection of the game as usual.

  • I wonder which is right, your pronunciation, Pierre McGuire's pronunciation or Jim Hughson's pronunciation of Kulemin (I think it's McGuire but not sure).

The reason the trap wasn't so bad is because Detroit could still move against it. But as you said, Toronto tried not so much to cut down the chances but cut down the quality of them.

Nothing much else to say that hasn't already been said...great game.

  • I keep hearing Koo Leh Min so I'll stick to that

  • Hm I thought it was Kyu le min

Forgot to mention in my first post - Where have the hat/drunk impression gone?! Haha that was one of the bes parts of the old videos.

  • sounds like ho chi min (or is it ming?) or some korean name when its broken down like that...

  • I think Detroit had more turnovers by their defense last night then they had all of last year. Toronto worked hard, trapped when they had to, and Toskala was sharp.

  • I could not believe how the Leafs actually pulled it off, I just disagree with the fact that the Red Wings CLEARLY outplayed them. I saw a 60/40 game, with the hustle going clearly to the Leafs, just wasn't there for Detroit. I cannot wait to see if we can actually pull these kind of wins off during the season.

  • Quick vid!

    1st win of the season.:D

I agree with you about the play - we were decent but we weren't outplaying Detroit. Exciting start to the season though!

Haha, this win is the exact opposite of what happened last season.:p

  • Me 46... genius.

  • haha thanks

  • this might be the highlight of the leafs season LOL

  • OMG STANLEY CUP RUN!

    kidding.

  • Great Game, Great Video. Plus, Toronto was the faster team, so it's more like the Hare beat the Tortoise. lol.

  • I was gonna say "David vs. Wingliath" but I did that last year

  • Or how about 'The Wrath of Conn' because the team tonite reminded me of the glory days of the 60's. No one expected the Leafs to win in 1967 either.

  • lolololololololol

  • When was the last time we won the opener? I know we lost the last several to Ottawa.

  • The Last time we won a season opener was 2002-3 season with a 6-0 win at Pittsburgh.

  • Nice win by the Leafs. Nice to see them win a season opener for once! :D

  • Great game tonight. Extremely entertaining and great effort from both teams. Glad leafs pulled out the win; it's always good to see the Leafs beat an old rival such as the Red Wings and doing it in the new/old vintage style thirds no doubt. I still think THE LEAFS NEED TO GO BACK TO THOSE VINTAGE JERSEYS FULL TIME!!!!!! I'm writing MLSE!!!!!!!

Oh, and keep up the good work, Steve. Looking forward to thise season and watching your blog.

  • and by "that" i meant "that score"

  • agreed we need to stay focused and make sure that we dont think that the leafs won the staley cup when they win one game

  • When I saw that I was like "I don't get it."

  • Man that was a great and exciting game! GO LEAFS GO!

  • Leafs played great. Can't wait to see them on Saturday against the Habs. :D

  • I love sundin to death! I started actually being a leafs fan in 1997 was in 3rd grade back then, and remember idolizing Potvin, Sundin and (for some odd reason) Berizen aka "Mr.I like to shoot 1012001 times and score once". So know that I'm not hating sundin when I'm saying we are better off without him. remember last year when we had a run of 8-2 in ten games in the middle of the season when sundin was injured? when he came back, for some odd reason the chemistry was out of sync.

  • steve, steve, steve, steve, steve, YOU FORGOT THE HAT! thats the funniness to your videos. I thought you were going to start using it again once the regular season started.

  • lol dangle

  • I don't know Steve. Detroit had more shots, but I think Toronto outplayed them. They forced Detroit to turnover the puck more times than I've ever seen any team do in some time with 19 and the Leafs only had 5.

Plus they had a more aggressive forecheck than Detroit and won more battles.

I don't expect them to make the playoffs, but, I do like the new look. So far Wilson is making good on his word that the team will work hard. Something I haven't seen since the days of Clark and Gilmour era.

  • I agree with juratist.

  • the first period was fucking exciting...i thought the leafs played very well

both teams had a couple of almost goals too

  • let's not forget Steve; LUKE SCHENN IS A MONSTER!!! XD. and so it begins.. me i'm not even going to THINK about the end of the season but just take this 3 periods at a time, if we can think that way EVERY game and not get too overwhelmed with thoughts, who knows? (and i do mean ALL 3 periods not just the first 2 ;)

  • That was awesome! I know it's only one game...but damn, I nearly died of excitement.

Toskala was amazing. Moore was amazing...definitely showed why he was given the "A".

Not getting my hopes up yet, but I don't think they're going to be as bad as people are predicting them to be.

  • WOO!

  • sick game! Congrats to the Leafs!

  • Figured you would have a video up soon and sure enough!

    Kulemin's goal was nice.

From my perspective the Leafs were very close and might have been ahead in terms of scoring chances. Detroit had a lot of shots but more than enough of them were low percentage IMO. Maybe I just expect Toskala to save everything though...

The line of Tlusty, Grabovski and Hagman looked pretty tough to handle.

  • yeah, wat a game. im telling u, i did not expect that. oh, and pause the video at the beginning, its hilarious :P anyway, great game go leafs go. next up, the montreal canadiens (they had a team!?!), in their centennial season. that games even featured on the new nhl website. should be exciting.

  • and if i get any hate mail from les habitants, then u obviously cant take a joke. im a leafs fan. wat do u expect.

  • im still in shock...

  • 3rd view

  • yeah!!!!!!!!!! awesome game!

  • first view, awesome video!!!

  • Wow, 1st view of the season, too haha.
