Great bid! I've been installing for 16 yrs and this is exactly how I do it. Cept I put trackless on the sides too to eliminate wrinkles in the sides. It might not be necessary, but what else you gonna do with those little pieces of strip from the stair.
Yes, you always start at the bottom........or that's how the pro's I know do it (for all the rookie's posting stupid comments here - by the way.....remove those comments for the rest of us). Do you ever tack under the overhang of the step for a tighter looking fit? I have some loop style (a kind of Berber) carpet to install for someone.....still use staples? Any hints are appreciated!
It's amazing some of the comments left by "pros"........what are those guys doing watching DIY vids???
Descent guide, not sure why us Brits have to swear and be rude.
Been fitting 25 years and always start at the top and work down, never needed to use a knee kicker to get them tight, I would also have the underlay reaching the gripper on the riser as eliminates any puckering, good guide though, maybe more detail would help beginners, like how big the gap needs to be between the gripper depending on the pile thickness and ensuring pile runs down the staircase etc. enjoy.
I would definitely suggest you to use rubber mallet instead of a hammer on the stairs ,it does make less noise also have vider surface so you don't hit your hand you know how much hurts when you miss the stair tool :) also saves your stair tool to break apart, try it and you won't go back to framer hammer.
@bluecollarbrothers I tried that once when I couldnt find my hammer...I think it was holding a door open somewhere :) It worked, and was less dangerous for my hand but you have to watch your face when it bounces back like a rubber ball!
very good thats the way I do it to although i never heard it called cap and band I have always called them a french cap or Hollywood style if they do not have a riser and wrap around the treads.happy flooring!
are u having a laugh, fitting a carpet from bottom upwards, i dont think so. and would you use that staple gun on a loop pile carpet. nope it would show every staple
@jimmyd47302 In the first second of the video you can see a piece of carpet in the entry way laying on the hardwood, its visible for about 1/4 second as he opens the door. You can see it in high res full screen, stepping frame by frame.
Thank you , you been a great Help.

end result looks good. but in the U.K we start at the top and just use a stair tool and hammer. it's much easyer and quicker.
