"Nigeria as it is today, is not a nation. We did not think that just because the British created it this way, we were all bound by it. We thought that even if there was going to be a Nigeria, the component units should be the ethnic groups."..."there should have been a Yoruba State, Igbo State, Hausa State, Ijaw State and the rest of the ethnic groups. That should have been the basis of our unity." -- Anthony Enahoro. Nigerian Nationalist. This Day Newspapers. Saturday September 27, 2008.
"Niger Delta has not been relying on crude oil, we don't even see it. It is being stolen by the parasites, the scavengers and the vulture. What we are saying is that they can no longer continue it as we will continue in this struggle to take back our stolen sovereignty." --- Dokubo Asari. Champion Newspapers. Sunday August 10, 2008.
"We never gave up our sovereignty at any time and this sovereignty we must take back..we offer you peace, call a Sovereign National Conference. Let us sit and test the popularity claim of Nigeria in Ijaw land, in Ogoni land, in Hausa land and other areas of the country. Let us put in place a Sovereign National Conference and the decision from this will now be subjected to a plebiscite. ---- Asari Dokubo. Champion Newspapers. Sunday August 10, 2008.
i am a nigerian abroad it deeply sadeens me when i reflect on all this but i dont think the problem is unity. the problem is the government and the oil companies, they have selfishly made themselves rich. Nigeria is made up of three nations and until we go back to that there cant be rest because one will always step on the others feet...we are meant to be 3 nations even the two rivers divide us well
"Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB)has appealed to the United Nations (UN), to arrest and prosecute former president Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of genocide. MASSOB described Obasanjo's acts to its members during his eight years administration as war of genocide."Obasanjo should be arrested and arraigned before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), for ordering the killing of many MASSOB members and execution of Odi people." - This Day Aug.19, 2008.
The Northern criminal Islamic Oligarchs hold 140 million people practically as subjects and most genuflect at their intimidation and threats with the military which they control and a colonial alliance to plunder the disadvantaged. It is and will ever remain the responsibility of the oppressed people of this proven unworkable country to rise and demand their rights and freedom. A failure to tow such line leaves those that don't in the perpetual subjugation of this northern Islamic hegemony.
"The only explanation for the extra-ordinary U-turn of the north in favour of strong, almost unitary constitution, in which the federal government owns everything including the mineral resources in my backyard, (and we all know that the federal government means the Arewa North) is what Professor Omafume Onoge has aptly described as "Niger Delta's Oil and Gas proceeds cupidity." --- Prof Itse Sagay. Vanguard Newspapers. Thursday June 23, 2005.
