I've worn a nightguard for about 18 years (not the same one of course), and it does not stop the motion of teeth grinding - it simply protects the teeth. Your bruxism will most likely continue. I wake up in the morning with my jaw in a vise grip biting down on that nightguard. You definitely want to protect your teeth from the result of the actual 'grinding' but the motion of that 'grinding' will more than likely continue.
I started using a night guard, because I grind my teeth at night, and it ruined my bite and made my teeth mess up, so I had to end up getting braces to fix my jaw, and teeth, because of the night guard. :/ :(
@pickypie16 The soft plastic kind of guards are not good for this reason. You can get a lot of torque that affect your bite over time. You need a hard plastic custom guard. They are expensive, but compare that to the cost of braces or grinding down your teeth to the point where you need crowns.
Over the counter versions stink in my opinion. Way to bulky and usually end up getting spat out at night.I also noticed you can get a funky thing where your gums get too moist maybe like when your skin gets water logged. The models that Dentists make these dayslook totally awesome but it's way over priced! Like 1,500 dollars for a piece smaller than your thumbnail. Western medicine rip off!
I grind my teeth at night but my insurance doesn't cover the cost of a night guard. Is there any other way to stop from grinding your teeth at night because lately I've been waking up with really sore teeth
yeah you guys comments are not appropiate at all. This woman is giving real valuable dental infomation. And if you dont like it, you can go to romper room!
