This certainly dosen't sound at all like "The Lion leeps tonight"or the Tokens!.... the song I remember the Tokens best for. As a matter of fact I would never of guessed this was the Tokens, this is the first time I've heard this one & like I said once before, I would never have guessed I was listening to the Tokens. Thx4 postin'
These are the same Tokens that did "Please Write" aren't they? I don't think so, I believe this was the "Black Group, from the white part of town" as a CD jacket of mine describes them.
@Howieshet The Brighton Beach could have learned how to shake all restraints off of them, to really cut loose, to sing it out like they didn't give a shit who they might frighten away from them...............and then Jay and the guys would have sounded like THESE Tokens sounded and yep the Brighton Beach Tokens had the talent to make records like Doom Lang.
@BobbyDelRiv The Brighton Beach Tokens consisted of Jay Siegal, Mitch Margo, Phil Margo, Hank Medress and sometimes Brute Force. So Jay and the Brighton Beach Tokens are one in the same. These Tokens were a black group.
@Howieshet I know that these Tokens were a black group; they came from Brownsville. I'm trying to say that Jay and the Brighton Beach Tokens COULD HAVE sounded like The Brownsville Tokens but only IF................
The Jay Siegel Tokens sang like they were holding back, The black Tokens cut loose when they sang and they sang with soul. I was saying that the Jay Siegel Tokens had the talent to make a song in the Doom Lang style but they were never shown how
White or black Tokens, still a killer song! Nothing today compares to this stuff!!!!
