What's unintelligent about what she said mostly lies in that it is close-minded. She assumes that, like all other Christians, Christianity is the one true religion. So the idea of an atheist honoring death seems ridiculous to her because an atheist does not believe in heaven and therefore their attempt to honor the dead is pointless. But to be an atheist does not mean that you do not value life and it does not mean that you don't believe in some form of existence beyond death.
Honouring is a form of respect which demonstrates the acknowledgement that dead people have done something tremendous for the living.
