bear in mind that red dwarf was made before we had widescreen and lcd television. on a good old crt screen you'd lose the edges of the picture and you wouldnt see them. and bear in mind that red dwarf was made on a miniscule amount of money in the early seasons so cock ups were inevitable.

It's a scientifically proven fact (10 out of 10 monkey professors agree) that Red Dwarf was at its best when the budget was barely there and half the sets felt like they could fall apart at any moment. Once there was more money and CGI started to be introduced, much of the magic was lost.

I've always felt that series 3 & 4 are probably the most amusing, while 7 & 8 are the least.

The comedy in the later series became less about character and more about wacky situations, with is good too, but less endearing in the long run.

The cat priest...well that was autonomic reflexes! The boom mics and cables--part of the Dwarf. Any other discrepancies are part of parallel universes converging in singularities. For someone with no formal acing training...Craig's brilliant! A natural.

It's always interesting to see the 'mistakes' in televison shows or films, it shows we're all human (or holograms ;) ).

But I think a major part of the charm of Red Dwarf, is the whole 'low budget-y' feel to the show.

I myself much prefer to watch the original episodes of Red Dwarf instead of the re-mastered ones.

So I say, embrace the mistakes!
