Someone teaching small children techniques that can actually be used in real life... and the kids can actually do them? Almost unheard of! I'd like to see these guys five years from now. I'm sure that when their bodies have developed more (gained more physical strength), they'll be pretty amazing.
Can anyone tell me something about Kenpo Karate? I'm just wondering, if someone starts a fight with you, and throws a random punch, do they train you to block them, even though you don't see it coming? Because I want to learn Kenpo, mainly for self defense, since I'm getting bullied a bit in my school.
@TheEffectPerson Im in Kenpo and yeah they do it depends on the sensei mainly I started a year ago, Kenpos the best style if its top properly I think, I can beat everyone at my school up hahaha. hit me up if you wanna know more.
@DUSTINJOLLEY123123 Yeah, I'm interested in Kenpo. I haven't really gotten into full on karate except for two studios I signed up for. I forgot what the first one was called, but my dad knows a famous karate guy named Bob White, so I went to Bob White's studio and got lesson from him. Though I never really knew if it was Kenpo or not. That was a long time ago, and since I'm in higher grades now, I'm starting to get bullied and I want to learn how to defend myself.
@TheEffectPerson Well if you're watching 'Wizard Wood Wand: Pottermore Wand' you're obviously going to get some flack lol Just kidding... Don't know much about Kenpo because it's not common in Australia (at least I don't think it is). I've been doing Taekwondo since 2006 and although the focus is mainly on kicking, we still get taught self defence. Random punch that you cannot see (like from behind you)? Maybe not. In front then yes. I have pretty fast reflexes even with my hands =)
@SergeantFiasco I'm not much of a fan of wands, my friend suggested me a bunch of things and I just watched em. And thats what I want to learn to block and counter, random punch to the face.
@TheEffectPerson It depends for hard you train. Just because you get taught the technique doesn't mean you can master it in a day. For instance, if you get taught the proper way to defend yourself then that's good but that doesn't mean that if it happens to you on the street you will be able to block it immediately. It takes time for these things to become 'second nature'. I guess you could look up local places where you can train or ask a friend. Practice makes perfect (I know, cliche).

Absolutely AWESOME work with the kids Mr. Walker. Im nobody, but I am so proud of you and what you are doing with these children! I used to train in Ed Parkers Kenpo. Would love to again, but nothing in my area. Closet is about 200 miles away!!
I'm not saying that I don't have martial arts training myself, because I do.
But, I went through some real physical hell and it took me along time to recover and become strong again. When I was a young teenager, I went up to brown belt in Shotokan Karate. I mastered the basics. e.g. Front kicks, (snap and thrust), the roundhouse (ball of foot and instep) hook kicks (spinning and regular) Side snap, side thrust, back thrust, hand strikes. I also have a yellow belt in Kenpo! etc.
You most certainly do have an advantage over most people if you know it, but there are street fighters who can defeat black belts. Indeed, street fighting is an art within itself. So, even a martial artists should know to respect everyone because there's nothing that can guarantee you will always win if you're in a fight. I've experienced this myself when I beat the crap out of guy who had a 5 degree black belt. He was a bully.
That little kid that is now a green belt started right after he turned 4 and he is almost 8 , he does karate 5 days a week. Maybe you should get the facts before you judge.
wow that kid is so little and he is already a blue belt. I been in the Kenpo from 5th grade to freshman high school today and I am still a blue belt. This starting to remind me of those taikwondo 1 month black belt system.
Wooooow, I am a Kenpo girl too !! I love this video, you are a great teacher hope someday I could teach as well as you do or to have a practice with you that would be an honor !!
this makes me wanna teach kids again but i havent practice kenpo in like 8yrs but i did achieve my third degree brown belt think im gonna retrain myself GREAT TEACHER AND VIDEO!
The little guy doing short 1 had just turned 6 at the time, I am his mom;) The studio is in Newberg Or. next to safeways. The instructors are awesome with kids, they have been teaching my 2 kids for 3 years.
It is nice to see someone actually teaching useful Kenpo, and not just a bunch of motions that they couldn't repeat in a real situations. My teacher does, and it is encouraging to find another one.
That truly was awesome what a great showing of the continuing work of Ed Parker! I hope my kids are lucky enough to have a club like this one day!
