@satyendrashukla2011 Or they just didn't like the movie. Not everyone can like the same things and just because they didn't like the movie doesn't mean they don't believe in hope.
P.S this is my favorite movie so no, i'm not "hating" if you were planning on responding with that.
Words cannot describe this films power and how it makes you see life afterwards. I've been taking life so stupidly over the years, treating friends badly, being miserable and thinking that I'm just going to live on life as an ordinary worthless person. But this film has made me see how great friendship really is, and that you should never let go of hope. If people could see this film like I did, we wouldn't need prisons.
If you look over your shoulder, there's a Policeman waiting to take you in because you violated your parole. Remember, Red, hope is a good thing, but your hope was misplaced.
I love this film. The start of this year hasn't been the best for me, I lost my job, I hardly saw my friends and when I did, it felt akward. I felt like I didn't have much to be happy about. But I told myself that things would get better. There is still hope. I will get a new job, I will make new friends and I will be happy again. This scene has lifted my spirits up.
There have been times in the past when I've wanted something to end. I've hoped for a bad situation to end, and it hasn't. But it doesn't hurt to hope for the best.
I've been watching this film each week from the first second to the last second for last four years and I will continue doing so. I watch it every Friday, doesn't matter what's going on.
And every Monday I watch the ending while drinking coffee in the morning.
@MikaShelley99 It sure does. It helps even with usual things through the day - like when the weather is bad in the morning, raining and all that, and it's a morning which is supposed to be a jogging morning. So I just watch that as usual, get fueled up, and I just go. Even if it's raining really hard. So, yeah, It helps. God damn right.
So there's this girl I really really like and she sort of rejected me one time already..."just want to be friends." Should I give up hope or should I keep trying? Don't know what to do...I'm just afraid of making her not want to talk to me any more.
Hope is the most powerful emotion that one can feel. It may not solve your problems by itself, but it can do enough to keep you going, to get you back on track, to motivate you to act. After all, that is what keeps us all going, the hope for a better tomorrow.
I just watched this movie, finished it not 5 minutes ago and id have to say i could easily be able to put it into my top 5. i nearly teared up at the end and im a guy. hard to find these kinds of movies nowadays..
@DpoProductions No I'm not mental, well here's some: Eureka (2000), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining, Memories of Murder ,A Clockwork Orange, Irreversible, Goodfellas, Chinatown, Raging Bull, Fargo, Apocalypse Now, Yi Yi, Tokyo Story, Human Condition trilogy, Woman in the Dunes, Lost in Translation, Seven Samurai, Peppermint Candy, the Vengeance trilogy
Reminds me of an old friend I had many years ago.. Never found another one like him. If I've learned anything over the years, it's the fact that true friends are hard to come by. Don't lose touch with them because someday life will pass you by and you'll be left wondering where everyone went. I think it's finally time I picked up the phone and made that call. I miss my friend.
the ending took a bad turn for me cos me n me mates had a night in a few years back n one of them did an absolutely enormous fart just at the end of the film! we woz 2 busy laffin to notice the ending! LOL! great film, but now i always laff at the endin! LOL!
Red seems to reach an epiphany after reading the letter from Andy. He has totally been released from fear of fitting into the new world and set free ever since.
A true cinematic experience as you're rarely given to live a life. A masterpiece that takes you through all the possible feelings and makes you want to no end. But unfortunately all good things end too quickly is found, as in this case. Frank Darabont certainly has its place set for. eterninate with film heavyweights, as Stephen King is considered one of the best contemporary writers.
This is not the best movie ever made. It's a very good movie but far from the best. The story is way to basic to be considering the best movie ever. Watch pulp fiction then throw a comment back ;)
@wrighb10 Are u stupid? The Beatles is also the #1, so the MASS thinks. IMDd's list is dreadful. So what everyone likes most you like too? ... And The Godfather has better ratings by regular voters, it should be 1.
@mbmh007 Yep! And it is, along with Green Mile, is proof that Stephen King is an amazing writer not just of horror, but of amazing stories like this. :)
Just another reason Morgan Freeman is a wonderful actor...what his lips move at 3:34 to show him fighting back his own emotions....what a fantastic scene.
@82sweetheart So absolutely true...hope is one thing which can never be taken from us.. no matter the situation , no one can stop us from hoping.....Don`t stop beleiving....ever
Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.
"Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose."
I've seen this movie over 100 times since 1996... I never get tired of it, still touching, and probably the best movie in another 20 more years. Check back in 2017ish.

Dear Red, If you're reading this, you've gotten out. And if you've come this far, maybe you'd be willing to come alittle farther. You remember the name of the town don't you? Andy's so cool. He's like Wolverine, minus the claws and Hugh Jackman. My favorite moment is when he breaks his way into the sewer pipe, suspending a rock above his head with menacing poise before he bashes that sucker in accordance with a convenient succession of thunderclaps. The inconvenience was a matter of chance. He had "guilt" written all over him, but the convenience was circumstance. He felt just, he was, and that is how he endured 19 years and trekked 500 yards of shit-laden gore pipe.
That video was really inspiring, thanks for the clip! You should include some scenes from “Discover the Gift” in your next video because it really fits your theme about inspiration. Anyway, I subscribed to your channel and can’t wait you do next. bit. ly/m4LDUB
This film, changed my perspective of life, changed me as a person and made realize what a beautiful thing life is and what a shame it's so easily wasted...
some birds aint meant to be caged....their feathers are just too bright......and when they fly away the part of u that knows that it is a sin to lock them up does rejoice.........Morgan Freeman in shawshank redemption. its my fav quote!!
Perfect ending, perfect cast, perfect movie. To think they originally wanted people like Tom Hanks, Charlie Sheen (shudder), Nicolas Cage (another shudder), Tom Cruise, or Kevin Costnir -who said no to the offer and later regretted it- as Andy. Harrison Ford, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, or Clint Eastwood (of course I prefer Morgan Freeman, but Eastwood I don't know, interesting) as Red. Tommy was going to be Brad Pitt, now tell me if that would ruin a movie!
-That's the beauty of music. They can't get that from you... Haven't you ever felt that way about music?
-I played a mean harmonica as a younger man. Lost interest in it though. Didn't make much sense in here.
-Here's where it makes the most sense. You need it so you don't forget.
-Forget?
- Forget that... there are places in this world that aren't made out of stone. That there's something inside... that they can't get to, that they can't touch. That's yours.
Shawshank Redemption is my all-time favorite movie and i like this speech, but unfortunately in real life having hope doesn't work for some people, including me. I gave up some time ago and have been waiting for the end of my own movie.
@MrElephantMemory Get busy living, or get busy dying. I know nothing about you or your life, but everyone has a cross to bear. If you can get through your worst times, that shows strength of charactor, and that you are worthy of your life.
Take a second to think about how special life is my friend, and try to keep your chin up :o)
This is the best movie I have ever seen! I think it's about freedom, in the prison you see how bad it is, and Andy was innosent of the crime he was getting in prison for, he digged that tunnel, and crawled in crap and came out clean on the other side, he was free. This movie is a reminder of how great life is, hope and freedom!

I felt the same way. It's a remarkable film. Unlike the crap in theaters today, it has a real soul. Still gets me every time I see it.

some birds aint meant to be caged....their feathers are just too bright......and when they fly away the part of u that knows that it is a sin to lock them up does rejoice.........Morgan Freeman in shawshank redemption. its my fav quote!!

- What're you talking about?
- Hope.

Why do all of the damn vids for The Shawshank Redemption have references to that idiotic immature show the family guy?
arivas713 6 months ago
@arivas713 Becuase the world is filled with idiotic, immature people who love that awful show.
