I disagree with your commentary on the review.

Yes the game has limited play value and the green energy beam sucks.

BUT, this game can be really challenging on the harder difficulty levels.

Especially if you try it on VERY HARD with limited credits :)

I think Raiden the Fighters was the oddball spin off actually.
