It is a modern. Modern bridge, fingerboard, neck and even the tailpiece - though the tailgut is made, at least, of gut and not nylon. She plays chin-on, too like a modern. But fortunately she makes a damn good sound, so she can be forgiven for this.
Why has this "baroque" violin a modern bridge? Even the neck-fingerboard construction looks like a modern violin, with that long fingerboard. Why, Monica, why?
If you are wanting to play it as a truly traditional instrument, then yes, you would be stringing it with gut. Sadly, yes, the strings are really made out of guts. :-P They're made from either sheep or cow intestinal casing. They provide a very distinctly warm, almost multi-leveled tone. I use gut strings on my cello since I play in a baroque quartet. They're expensive, but a GREAT investment!
oh please.....give me that neck and those ... and i'll play without chinrest and shoulder rest.

Sorry, the neck is not modern. The fingerboard is, but the neck is not.
