@spikeman1444 because the marines realize that the type of people who watch the ufc and train in mixed martial arts are the kind of people who would be interested in the marines, and vise versa. sponsoring the ufc was a great marketing move for the marines, and it benefits both parties. nobody is saying that marines are better than ufc fighters, nor that ufc fighters are better than marines...

I don't think this advertisement is meant to compare the two, rather I think in the name of recruiting, it draws a corollary between the two in order to capitolize on the impressionability of today's youth. To compare professions would be silly, however I believe that both warriors and professional athletes share similarities amongst personality traits and motivation.
