Rottweiler breed is so smart. Mines as a puppy would lift his leg and urinate on food to show me that he didn't like the ingredients. And food that he liked he would do a back circle 3 times in a row and raise his paws.
Mine loves all veggies and fruit, favorites are blueberries, baby carrots, clementines, apples to name a few! He delicately eats from spoons, forks, and chopsticks, taking dainty little bites and never allowing his teeth to scrape. He has very genteel manners, and one of my friends called him "demure." He will NOT allow himself to drool even a drop. If he's panting he catches drool before it drops anywhere. Weird, lovable, and wonderful.
beautiful dog and hes so intelligent and well trained! you said little bites and thats exactly what he did. Also noticed when the watermelon got close to your hand, he wouldnt take a bite! what a sweetie!
I miss my rotty so much :( He passed away last year in August. He looked just like yours, and acted the same way to food lol I want another one so bad.
aww. makes me miss my rottie :( my family moved and took her with. we would tell her to "be nice" and she would slowly eat food right off a fork, just like a human.
Yeah, cute. Try the "little bites" with a steak - LOL. Watermelon is yummy for the sugar for a dog and not so yummy for the citrus, etc. But the fact that you are sharing and the sugar is why he is eating it.
@dbdesign2008 Ok here you go! that is how he was raised - properly He is very gentle and eats like that no matter the what the food is... See his steak video 'Rottweiler delicately eats steak" or "How to train a Wonderful Rottweiler - FIGHT BSL" or "Hand in Rottweilers bowl. Help your dog with food aggression" or "Rottweiler treats on feet" or "Rottweiler tells me to "Take this bone and shove it!!"
me n my rott were so close, i would put pieces of steak in my mouth and he would gently grab it out with just his front teeth...and everyone knows how rotts like meat
@superbaron you have a beautiful rott.. i love my rottie haha, im trying to teach him to eat with a spoon (with me holding it of course).. but yeah great looking dog
He's a really good lookin' Rottie. I wish everyone could see rotties like this to know that they're hardly the vicious, aggressive dogs that people make them out to be. I've had 2 rotties and both have been wonderful companions. Thanks for sharing the videos. :)
@choppergirlJune Yeah, my Rottie is named Max and he has a buddy named Marley. They spend a LOT of time together just running and playing. It's a huge joy for me to watch them as they chase, wrestle and just have fun with one another. It's unfortunate that everyone doesn't have the opportunity to just watch dogs be dogs. It's one of those things that makes you feel good about the world around you. Even with all of the crazy things going on in the world, they always find a way to make you smile.
I had one that ate like that, Whisky(Damn my father for naming her that), she was always full of life. until her final days she played like she always would. Then the arthritis became too much for her and she collapsed she didnt move for an entire week, eventually we took her to the vet to be euthanised. I hope that was the best choice.
Yes, just type in "rottweiler with bone cancer." His name is Cobra. He also had hypothyroidism, and he started gaining weight, towards the end. All the diets we tried him on would'nt help. When he died he weighed 167 lbs. Until he got sick his weight was around 120lbs.

and backyard breeders and pet stores make me absolutely SICK!
IRottweilers can also have entropian, ontropian, osteosarcoma. I just had my 6 year old rottie put down because of osteosarcoma. The bone cancer destroyed the bone in his front leg. Rotties are the only breed for me. Bty, you have a beatiful dog. My new pup just turned 10 months old.

@rogantu I know it is for Rotties. But i know that certain breeds can have more sensitive stomachs so i cannot speak for all dogs.. I only give Oz a piece or 2.. never a entire melon ;)
My rottie boy was a great kid but that was amazing. I used to be able to put a piece of ham between my teeth and kneel down and he would take it as gentle as could be. It's amazing how great rotties are with good responsible owners.
RIP Guinness...we love you always and miss you terribly
@sowhatyoucant2 thank you. Yes grapes are also dangerous because the will easily get lodged in a dogs throat causing them to choke/obstructing their airway.
Mine one does the same!!! I think he thinks it's more comfortable and probably more "claen"... but it's really funny when he is doing that tooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are the best, had mine for ten years, before he passes away. Its how u bring them up, these idiots out there training dogs to fight like rotties and pitbulls gives them a bad name. My rocco, biggest puppie out there couldnt sleep outside, couldnt sleep alone. Best dogs.

@choppergirlJune Oh...I know..she's so spoiled. Anytime we eat apples she's right there at our feet begging....but she doesn't like bananas, but it's' funny to watch her eat it.
@dorkbuttz YAY!! So good for your dogs :))) Oz loves carrots but not bananas... and no idea who the music is in the background hahaha... on the radio.
My Tia was like that too. Very gentle when eating from the hand. She was really fussy about being clean. She used to keep her nose out of her bowl and use her bottom jaw to scoop up the food so she wouldnt get her nose messy. I miss her.
Mine liked carrots, the bigger the better and it's a good thing, because she had a tendency to put on weight and the carrots let her snack without getting fat.
What a lovely big dude! My friends have a rotti called Hera, she is a gorgeously well behaved girl...my fave breed for sure. Well done on raising such a beauty!
What a lovely big dude! My friends have a rotti called Hera, she is a gorgeously well behaved girl...my fave breed for sure. Well done on raising such a beauty!
one rottie i used to have loved clementines. no matter where he was in the house as soon as you would start to peel it he would just appear, without a sound, sitting right next to you drooling lol
Mine eats watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples, pears, peachs and figs. He loves his veggies and raw nuts too.

kmb85o, it's called "GASTRIC TORSION", it is mainly caused by eating too much and the stomach can actually twist, if taken to a vet in time the dog can be operated on to fix the problem, but it is very expensive. So you don't have to put him/her down.
