I'm 18 and I got linked here from a minecraft subreddit... I need to watch this film now, it sounds awesome! Not because of any action scene there may be between planes and anti-air, just for the sheer brilliance of the dialogue if nothing else. This was hilarious
you know I never really laughed durring this movie-... Let me finish Demetri....Let me finish- but after it was over it all together felt just like a really great movie. It was kinda like I didnt appreciate it untill it was over. Anyone else felt the same way?
10x Stanley Kubrick. Thank you very much for that 2 hour of hilarious laugh I had while watching this movie. RIP and may our movies entertain the eternity!
My girlfriend doesn't understand why I find this film and this scene in particular hilarious, she misses the subtly of the language. Not that I am a Kubrick fan, this is the only film of his that I like.

Was watching survivors on Schindlers list dvd, they said Don't hate, try to get along with your neighbour, No-one is better than anyone else, Everyone has something they are good at. . What is funny is he is drunk and partying and he tries to fob him off with phone war room or something. Madness.

This movie is amazing, the satire and black humour is genius. In this scene what makes me laugh the most is the failure in the russian though. I mean I know why its like that but knowing russian it just makes me uncontrollably giggle. Anyways the movie is funny with or without it George C Scott is perfection and Peter sellers is amazing. Best of Kubrick hands down.

"Listen if it wasn't friendly......you probably wouldn't even got it..." None of my friends understand why i love this movie (I'm 20). I think it is incredibly smart and funny, but i can't imagine watching this movie in the 60's, it probably was unheard of to joke about something like that, in the middle of the cold war. Again proving this movie was way ahead of its time.
This film is pure genius. See how George C Scott reacts. And the script... 'just ask for Omsk information?' One of the funniest and darkest films ever made.
@TheDirectorofFoo I agree with your opinion on our modern society. There are many people in my generation who simply cannot fathom the notions of watching a black/white film. Its sad that there are many who will miss such art! Strangelove is a satire on a serious increasing tension between world powers, no laughing matter. But incredibly, as all of Kubrick's films, it hasn't aged, and one can watch it now with utmost relevance to current events. It is smart, hilarious, timeless, and horrifying.
@horrorfilmsfan100 Agree. Fail-Safe is in its own right an excellent film. Makes for a perfect Friday night double feature with Strangelove. Its incredible how similar and how utterly different the two are. The lack of conventional film music in Fail-Safe makes the experience even more uncomfortably terrifying. Too bad Fail-Safe seems to always stand in the shadow of Dr. Strangelove, more people need to check this masterpiece out. It hasn't lost one ounce of its power. RIP Sidney Lumet.
Clear and plain and coming through fine. I'm coming through fine too eh? Good then, well then as you say we're both coming through fine. Good. Well it's good that you're fine then, and I'm fine. I agree with you, it's great to be fine.
This is an over looked scene?? I wouldn't have guessed that.. This was probably my favorite lol .. "You know how we've always talked about something going wrong with the bomb" I love it.
Some one should make a 3d animation of this only with the likeness of barak obama lip syncing it. Same room set up, pentagon people sitting around him (mccrystal/petraeus shifting around nervously) etc. It's perfect since the current russian president right now (puppet or no) IS a man named DMITRI! HAHAHAHAHahahaha
Scene ends by cutting to "dmitri" on the other end wearing a french maid outfit (or something) whilst putin waits for him to get off the phone. XD
I watched this exact clip in my AP US History class last year when I was 15. I was the only kid laughing in the room. I don't understand why people don't find this hilarious, it's one of the greatest satirical and pastiche films of all time.
@NotSoViolentToy Not everyone gets it, or can pick up on some of the subtleties of the comedy. I'm almost 100% sure that I'd be the only 1..or maybe 1 of 2 laughing at it had they shown it in my history class.
Put it this way, I'm not sure how many Jackass fans would be into it..and I'm not being snobby when I say that, 'different horses for different courses'...as we say in the glue factory!
@NotSoViolentToy When I was in high school, I requested my AP History teacher show this, and I even brought in the DVD. As we were sitting there watching it, I was giddy and laughing my ass off, and the rest of the class just had "uhhh" faces lol. Some kids just dont appreciate real humor.
@NotSoViolentToy I watched it just today in my history class. I am also 15. I was also the only one laughing. This is just too funny and mocking to be ignored.
@NotSoViolentToy it is maybe because most people have no concept of words like satire or pastiche. Most people like fart jokes, if the movies was about farting, then maybe you wouldn't have been the only kids in your class that found this funny.

@dajazman2k - some of the phone conversation is nearly identical to dialogue from an episode of The Goon Show ("The Lost Emperor"), between Eccles (Spike Milligan) and Bluebottle (Peter Sellers)...

if you watch the end scene, peter bull is trying to keep a straight face but failing as strangelove is battling with his alien hand. my favourite movie by far. check out 'paths of glory'. another triumph from mr. k.
when he said "how do you think I feel!" I lost it! classic. I heard, in a kubrick documentary, that the real air command people we're scared because it was so accurate. yikes!

"Why do you think I'm calling? Just to say hello? Of course I like to speak to you! Of course I like to say hello!"
"Look, if it wasn't friendly, you prbably wouldn't have even got it!"
Oh I love this.

Don't say you're more sorry than I am. I am JUST as capable of being sorry as you are. So we're both sorry. Sums it all up perfectly. Brilliant.

@pix042 Yeah, and haven't we ALL had exactly this argument with a significant other? :)

Oh what a great movie. Just imagine a similar dialogue between Obama and Putin today.

i wonder what peter bull had to do in order to keep himself from laughing.
emoviebuff87 2 years ago
Yes! It's amazing.
bag101 2 years ago
if you watch the end scene, peter bull is trying to keep a straight face but failing as strangelove is battling with his alien hand. my favourite movie by far. check out 'paths of glory'. another triumph from mr. k.

@valvalization I agree this and Paths of Glory are in 'the best of the best' team:-) Unforgettable movies.

when he said "how do you think I feel!" I lost it! classic. I heard, in a kubrick documentary, that the real air command people we're scared because it was so accurate. yikes!
