  • I'm capable of being just as sorry as you are!

  • Utter comedic genius. Especially considering how he talks to him just like a progressive education teacher.

  • It's a shame many people want watch black and white movies all, because they are black and white. Oh well it's there loss for missing out on great movies like this one

  • @lightingcobra I mean won't not want lol

  • I love how the American President tells the Russian President that american planes are going to bomb his country in that tone of voice

  • funny how you picked this

  • I'm 18 and I got linked here from a minecraft subreddit... I need to watch this film now, it sounds awesome! Not because of any action scene there may be between planes and anti-air, just for the sheer brilliance of the dialogue if nothing else. This was hilarious

  • @EpicFishFingers while you watch this one, get the rest of the mel brooks movies in queue. Oh and the pink panther for more peter sellers

  • classic... great choice

  • Did anyone notice the war room shots in The Watchmen movie? Borrowed straight from this movie. I'm sure it was intentional.

  • @mohinderbauer Totally noticed that. I like it when movies pay subtle hommage to classics without completely ripping them off.

  • @mohinderbauer And the new X Men film.

  • Hellas funny!

  • I can't avoid to think on Mr. Felipe Calderon when I watch this movie

  • you know I never really laughed durring this movie-... Let me finish Demetri....Let me finish- but after it was over it all together felt just like a really great movie. It was kinda like I didnt appreciate it untill it was over. Anyone else felt the same way?

  • 10x Stanley Kubrick. Thank you very much for that 2 hour of hilarious laugh I had while watching this movie. RIP and may our movies entertain the eternity!

  • 'Well it's good that you're fine and i'm fine. I agree with you, it's great to be fine.'

And that shot at 1:27-1:30... It's one of my favorites parts of the movie.

  • peace is our job

  • The General was hilarious in this scene. Just look at his face expressions!

  • apparently 15 people so far got shit for brains ;)

  • i wonder if there aver really was a room like that...

  • @kylecbenton There wasn't... unfortunately. :P

  • 15 people are sorrier than I am.

  • One of our base commanders …well he went a little funny in the head and did a silly thing....

  • peter sellers is the shit

  • 15 negatives? Are you stupid? You better go and watch Fast and Furious or any crap like that! Kubrick was a genious

  • "...of course I like to speak to you!"

  • My girlfriend doesn't understand why I find this film and this scene in particular hilarious, she misses the subtly of the language. Not that I am a Kubrick fan, this is the only film of his that I like.

  • Don't say you're sorrier than I am!

  • Dimitri that dick.

  • People say that kids of today don't like this film are making a sweeping generalisation although accurate possibly, this is 88% made up. Was watching survivors on Schindlers list dvd, they said Don't hate, try to get along with your neighbour, No-one is better than anyone else, Everyone has something they are good at. . What is funny is he is drunk and partying and he tries to fob him off with phone war room or something. Madness.

So maybe war is good so that people can be philosophical afterwards. I'm just rambling now. Want to use 77 characters. 50 now. This is funny. It made me laugh.

  • they sound like ex- lovers, the presidents.... lOl

  • Kubrick - pure genious

  • I don't understand how people can dislike this video. I watched this movie in my history class last week and myself and the teacher were the only people laughing

  • been awhile, thanks for this

  • This brilliant monologue was completely improvised by Sellers. No script, no screenplay, no nothing.

  • "The BOMB Dimitri. The Hydrogen bomb?" love that

  • No script here, Sellers just made it up as he went along, amazing.

  • This movie is amazing, the satire and black humour is genius. In this scene what makes me laugh the most is the failure in the russian though. I mean I know why its like that but knowing russian it just makes me uncontrollably giggle. Anyways the movie is funny with or without it George C Scott is perfection and Peter sellers is amazing. Best of Kubrick hands down.

  • Who the Hell would give this a thumbs down?? This is pure genius; end of story!!

  • I love this film, I have a presentation on it Tuesday. Does anyone know what is being said in Russian? Would be epic to find out. Brownie points on the presentation :)

  • "Listen if it wasn't friendly......you probably wouldn't even got it..." None of my friends understand why i love this movie (I'm 20). I think it is incredibly smart and funny, but i can't imagine watching this movie in the 60's, it probably was unheard of to joke about something like that, in the middle of the cold war. Again proving this movie was way ahead of its time.

  • funny & scary

  • nice, 12 justin bieber fans

  • it's a friendly phone call

  • I watched this in my us history calls too only a handful of kids were into them this was my favorite part

  • This film is pure genius. See how George C Scott reacts. And the script... 'just ask for Omsk information?' One of the funniest and darkest films ever made.

  • Even during a crisis, the two super powers feel the need to one-up each other by being more apologetic than the other. LOL

  • Im gonna get as dumb as the utmost dumb american: the president of their states.

  • Wow I just realized the Music Video for "Time is Running Out" by Muse is based on this scene. Cool!

  • This is my favorite scene in the movie. The fact that you can only guess what Dimitri is saying from Muffley's response is pretty much perfect.

  • I always crack up when Peter just stops, being interrupted, and says, "Now let me finish Dmitri."

  • They sound like an old married couple. "Let me finish, Dimitri..."

  • =))))))))))))))

  • @TheDirectorofFoo I don't agree about the modern world part. People seem happy witht heir "i" products and that there's no threat of nuclear war :)

  • @TheDirectorofFoo I agree with your opinion on our modern society. There are many people in my generation who simply cannot fathom the notions of watching a black/white film. Its sad that there are many who will miss such art! Strangelove is a satire on a serious increasing tension between world powers, no laughing matter. But incredibly, as all of Kubrick's films, it hasn't aged, and one can watch it now with utmost relevance to current events. It is smart, hilarious, timeless, and horrifying.

  • @GocoProductions Tis' truly is a sad day when the large populous that has become of us begins to forget from whence it came.

  • @GocoProductions You wanna watch a real no nonsense film? Fail Safe. Same concept, makes Strangelove look like a honest to God parody.

  • @horrorfilmsfan100 Agree. Fail-Safe is in its own right an excellent film. Makes for a perfect Friday night double feature with Strangelove. Its incredible how similar and how utterly different the two are. The lack of conventional film music in Fail-Safe makes the experience even more uncomfortably terrifying. Too bad Fail-Safe seems to always stand in the shadow of Dr. Strangelove, more people need to check this masterpiece out. It hasn't lost one ounce of its power. RIP Sidney Lumet.

  • Ridicules war just like ' Life Of Brian' ridicules religion. Brilliant films.

  • 1 of the best comedies...or films of all time in my opinion. So much talent on show, and at least 20 years ahead of it's time!

  • Clear and plain and coming through fine. I'm coming through fine too eh? Good then, well then as you say we're both coming through fine. Good. Well it's good that you're fine then, and I'm fine. I agree with you, it's great to be fine.

  • ITS ON THE BIG BOARD!

  • well its great to be fine ha..haha....hahaha

  • " You know, just a little funny"

  • Uh Hello? Hello Dimitri?

  • One of the greatest movie scenes ever!!

  • This is an over looked scene?? I wouldn't have guessed that.. This was probably my favorite lol .. "You know how we've always talked about something going wrong with the bomb" I love it.

  • i LOVE this scene. so funny and disturbing

  • Some one should make a 3d animation of this only with the likeness of barak obama lip syncing it. Same room set up, pentagon people sitting around him (mccrystal/petraeus shifting around nervously) etc. It's perfect since the current russian president right now (puppet or no) IS a man named DMITRI! HAHAHAHAHahahaha

Scene ends by cutting to "dmitri" on the other end wearing a french maid outfit (or something) whilst putin waits for him to get off the phone. XD

I NEED to watch this movie NOW

  • This is by far the best phonecall scene in the history of film

  • "Listen, do you happen to have the phone number on you, Dmitri?"

  • Well let me finish Dimitri...

  • just ask for Omsk information, but quick for Omsk information will be no longer in a few minutes.

  • Do you suppose you could turn the music down just a little?

  • In the passed 50 ys. technical means may have improved but meanwhile the industry lost its moral capability to produce good movies.

  • @envanje So true comedies today are just so lame. It's kinda drepressing watching this but knowing the sad reality of todays comedy

  • One of the greatest films of all time!

  • "The bomb, Dmitri. The hydrogen bomb." Hilarious.

  • it's great to be fine!

  • 0:45

  • The bomb,Dimitri.The hydrogen bomb. :D lol

  • Absolute classic.

  • how is this often-overlooked, it's one of the most famous scenes in the movie

  • awesome movie

  • I straight-up had no idea that the president was peter sellers until well after seeing the movie. that's embarrassing.

  • is there any accent peter sellers can't do?!!!

  • he couldn't do the redneck accent so they had to get slim pickens to play the pilot

so i think that's one accent he can't do out of about a bazillion, lol

  • I watched this exact clip in my AP US History class last year when I was 15. I was the only kid laughing in the room. I don't understand why people don't find this hilarious, it's one of the greatest satirical and pastiche films of all time.

Best moment in the clip: 4:21 - 4:31

    Hilarious.

  • @NotSoViolentToy Not everyone gets it, or can pick up on some of the subtleties of the comedy. I'm almost 100% sure that I'd be the only 1..or maybe 1 of 2 laughing at it had they shown it in my history class.

Put it this way, I'm not sure how many Jackass fans would be into it..and I'm not being snobby when I say that, 'different horses for different courses'...as we say in the glue factory!

  • @NotSoViolentToy You're more mature than your classmates. :D

  • @NotSoViolentToy Well done, kiddo =)

  • @NotSoViolentToy It is fanny but it is also very, very serious psychological and philosophical film. One of 5 most important films on the world.

  • @NotSoViolentToy

humor these kids like today are dick and fart joke

  • @NotSoViolentToy Of course I like to say hello!! Of course its a friendly call!

  • @NotSoViolentToy I completely agree, that moment is hilarious!:)

  • @NotSoViolentToy When I was in high school, I requested my AP History teacher show this, and I even brought in the DVD. As we were sitting there watching it, I was giddy and laughing my ass off, and the rest of the class just had "uhhh" faces lol. Some kids just dont appreciate real humor.

  • @ThisIsMyBoomStick My history class also watched this movie. I guess I am the one out of three of us whos entire class found it funny.

  • @NotSoViolentToy I watched it just today in my history class. I am also 15. I was also the only one laughing. This is just too funny and mocking to be ignored.

  • @NotSoViolentToy I did as well lol

  • @NotSoViolentToy it is maybe because most people have no concept of words like satire or pastiche. Most people like fart jokes, if the movies was about farting, then maybe you wouldn't have been the only kids in your class that found this funny.

    Hilarious.

  • @NotSoViolentToy I know, it's tragic... A lot of audiences now think comedy means silly voices and people falling over.

  • I'm ashamed to say that I've seen this movie for the first time only few weeks ago and I'm already 32 :p dunno why I thought it was a boring movie but actually this is one of the best comedy I've ever seen, definitely engraved in my memory and in my heart, actors are perfect, lines are hilarious and the story is crazy but at the same time so realistic when you think how fragile was the peace during the cold war and how much people were fanaticized.

  • 'Of course i like to speak to you'

    haha genius

On 2:30 the face of the fourth guy from left to right is priceless.

What an excelent movie, easly, my top ten all-time

  • I forgot Sellers' nervous laugh.

"I agree with you, it's great to be fine - eh-heh-heh-heh-heh."

  • The face of that russian ambassador is priceless ^^

  • of course i like to speak to you! i love peter sellers.

  • Can I just point out that whole phone conversation was unscripted.

Yep, Sellers made it up on the spot - incredible.

  • @dajazman2k - some of the phone conversation is nearly identical to dialogue from an episode of The Goon Show ("The Lost Emperor"), between Eccles (Spike Milligan) and Bluebottle (Peter Sellers)...

  • Doesn't take away from its awesomeness.

  • "bomb your country... let me finish Dmitri... please let me finish Dmitri" LOL

  • hahahaha great movie

  • Peter Sellers is the most versatile actor in history. Seriously, who else comes close?

  • Laurence Olivier and Alec Guinness among many...

  • Brilliant movie!

  • Nuclear war and the destruction of mankind is inevitable as long as nations posess nuclear weapons. All nukes must be destroyed if humans want to survive into the next century.

  • НЕ ОБОЛДЕТЬ! Неужели посол Россиского Презедента амернканец с притензией на то, что он русский. Америкосы просто заражали его, и он подэабыл родной язык :(

  • a valid point, my good man

  • "I don't HAVE a phone.." LOL...

  • "IT'S GREAT TO BE FINE."

  • Peter Sellers was a genius, and nutty and a pecan pie. He should have been in therapy since the Sixites.

  • I agree with you, its great to be fine!

  • Amazing performance by Peter Sellers. When I first saw this movie I didn't even realize that he played the president as well!

  • one of my favourite scenese from one of my favourite movies :)

  • as if he's talking to a baby

    nice movie

  • "Ask Omsk information"

  • "OR How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

  • that's not the point, but whatever...

  • "be careful i think hes drunk" lol

  • love the look on the presidents face when the ambassador told him that he thinks the premier is drunk.

  • George C Scott is fucking hillarious in this movie !!

  • 3:25

  • I was hoping this movie would age after 40 years but now as I watch the news, I see the US and NATO trying to straighten out Iran's nuclear weapons program.

Every time they say its for "peaceful" purposes I think of this film....

  • "Peace is our Profession" haha.

  • the genious of Sellers...only needs 1 actor for this scene

  • BEST FUCKING MONOLOGUE EVER.

  • one of the best movies ever...just hits the mark when it comes to politicians running our lives. what a nightmare

  • I know that it is a classic but how many people have actually seen it? Very few of my peers have seen this movie and those who have generally miss the point.

  • This entire movie is terribly under-rated!

  • It's considered one of the greatest films ever made. I'd hardly call it underrated thought it is massively underAPPRECIATED by today's filmgoers.

  • I had to share this on my facebook page. At least people will think I'm cool. :D

  • THANKS SO MUCH xx

  • One of my favorite scenes. Thanks for posting.

  • Only from Kubrick.

  • "Be careful Mr. President, I think he is drunk"

    What a classic

  • "Why do you think I'm calling? Just to say hello? Of course I like to speak to you! Of course I like to say hello!"

"Look, if it wasn't friendly, you prbably wouldn't have even got it!"

    Oh I love this.

  • good ol times! 2 superpowers!

  • Imagine using this to prank call someone!

  • @frenchstudentA Ha Ha I'll Do that and Send it to you on YouTube!

  • I like the nazi the best. His hand would refuse his commands and make a sieg heil!

  • Don't say you're more sorry than I am. I am JUST as capable of being sorry as you are. So we're both sorry. Sums it all up perfectly. Brilliant.

  • @pix042 Yeah, and haven't we ALL had exactly this argument with a significant other? :)

  • I love George C Scott throughout this scene

  • "were both sorry, Dmitri"!

  • Lol. Peter is gr8 as usual

  • Dr.strangelove=best movie ever... Sellers is so brilliant!

  • Ahahahahaaahahahahhaaaha!

Of course I like to talk to you! Of course I like to say hello!

  • Oh what a great movie. Just imagine a similar dialogue between Obama and Putin today.

  • i wonder what peter bull had to do in order to keep himself from laughing.

  • Yes! It's amazing.

  • if you watch the end scene, peter bull is trying to keep a straight face but failing as strangelove is battling with his alien hand. my favourite movie by far. check out 'paths of glory'. another triumph from mr. k.

  • @valvalization I agree this and Paths of Glory are in 'the best of the best' team:-) Unforgettable movies.

  • be careful, i think he is drunk

  • Peter Sellers improved this conversation on the phone.

  • when he said "how do you think I feel!" I lost it! classic. I heard, in a kubrick documentary, that the real air command people we're scared because it was so accurate. yikes!

  • "well he went a little funny in the head.. you know just a little.... funny."

couldnt stop laughing at the first time ive saw it. why cant real presidents like that?... oh wait they are :(

  • why cant real life world leaders be that civil?

  • I almost woke my parents up when i watched this scene. I loved this movie.
