@yellowbusguy My school system I formerly attended the oldest is now 2000 and they are currently spare buses along with the 2001 order. And with the 2001 order being a small order I wouldnt even be surprised if the 2002 order was also spares. I know when the 1990s were the oldest with the 91s only being 14 buses the 90s, 91s, and 93s were all the spare fleet in the 2002-2003 school year. Usually everywhere uses the oldest buses as spares.
i could watch the comings and goings of the compound for hours. awesome video, man. be especially cool to see it in the early am when everyone is heading out at the same time. what kind of hours do you all keep as drivers? is it hard to stay awake in the middle of the day waiting for your afternoon runs to start?
@pk33617 I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The hours we keep are all different as far as when we leave to start our runs are concerned. Buses leave in the morning one or two at a time spread out over more than an hour, so there is no massive convoy going out the gate. Most of us have 3 or four hours off mid day and people tend to do everyday chores and shopping then and naps too.
@pk33617 thats kinda the same for us but like during 9:00 through 2:30 you are free to do what ever you want go home go back to sleep, but you have to come back around 2:30 third bell drivers (me) leave at 2:35 and come back to the compound about 4:20pm
I'm not really sure. I think it was something about the camera. That was a couple of years ago and I'm rather old. Those Fords have the loud "barking" air brakes for sure. The Internationals don't. Can hear a Ford coming long before you see it.
I'm not sure what you mean by complete a day. This is a video at my compound as the buses return at the end of the day. The drivers will make final bus checks to make sure they don't accidentally bring a student back with them and there will be bus cleaning done if needed. Refueling and simple repairs can also be done at this time to prepare the buses for the next day.
I'm from your county, yellowbusguy. A very interesting fleet we have! I guess your depot is the lucky one that got all the rare Ford AmTrans! Too bad we no longer have the 92 Ward Senators, those were mighty-fine buses!
Will be in Taylorsville, Is this the bus lot i see from the interstate? I drive a school bus here in Ohio, now. Until June 5th. Enjoy your video's Thanks

@MrWill1985 The oldest bus that you'll see anymore would be a 1990. These are used as spare buses only.

The strobes are intended to increase our visability in the dark or during bad weather. They also provide an exciting "Disco" effect as we drive.
yellowbusguy 3 years ago
Why do school buses have those flashing white strobes on top?

Rare is right! We lost one in a wreck last week. No kids on, just the driver who is a little sore.

Moving down there are you hiring?
MustangSally2001 3 years ago
Always. The board is usually in need of new drivers. They provide paid training and the rest is up to you.
