IMO the EU already is a super power.
We are controlling a huge amount of world trades, finances and have a great influence in the world.
We have the greatest military (all states together), a huge amount of mankinds knowledge was/is produced here and we do not fear or hate each other.

The USSR had better avionics in the early 1980s than you currently have in your frontline fighters (F16/F15). The worlds leading civil aerospace companies are Airbus (total profits), British Aerospace (largest supplier of engines/satellites) and Arianespace (largest - by far - satellite launching company).
