We believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed unto Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and that which was vouchsafed unto Moses and Jesus and the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered. Praise be to Him, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Him from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray.
I checked his credentials. I got his scholarly book, Early Christianities and read it. And followed up his references from footnotes.
I also read his textbook on the Bible. Again, checked his scholarship.
Only after this did I recommend his work. He is a scholar who simplified for the general public in MJ. However, his scholarly work is authoritative indeed.
When asked if the Bible is the Word of God, Bart Ehran usual answer is by asking: "Which bible? Is it the Bible that you buy in your local bookstore? Is it the Bible found in manuscripts? If in manuscripts, which manuscripts?"
He is courageous to say what he is saying, But I would respect him even more if He declare' Today's bible is NOT the word of God"
It is human to hear only what you want to hear , have you not ever been lied to by someone you liked ? It works because you want to believe. If you are indoctrinated since birth you almost have no choice, These beliefs are like comfort food...
HE DOES KNOW "DAT." Ehrman was simply stating the Christians' explanation of how they rationalized Jesus not being explicitly mentioned in the Torah. i.e. he was saying that the Christians were misinterpreting God's use of the "royal we" as an indication that he was talking with Jesus.
Thanks for posting this fascinating lecture.
