1st, weather you'll believe it or not, it's a good cartoon. Albeit not everyone's cup of tea, but good enough that it earned followings from outside the age group of it's target demographic... as well as outside the target gender.

2nd, there is as much meme potential to the series as there is with TF2. And considering what a meme-generator TF2 is, that's saying something. (In fact, Zuerel's 'Sandviches!' played a big part in personally becoming a brony.)

Good question; have an answer. The reason why we can watch MLP:FiM is because all that girly-girl bull shit that once permeated every aspect of the franchise has been all but completely eliminated.
