RaveSlave and Grimlock257, the explanation is nikkoid showing you how he builds up fine detail by adding multiple layers of randomly clustered 3d objects commonly called greebles across the surface of the hull.

Some people make these greebles themselves (they're don't have to be that complicated, look at the closeup at 4:14) but you can also find collections of them for free on the web.

@ultramediaAustralia ahhh nice explanation, there's some cool planet render tutorials @ Making Worlds: Of Spheres and Cubes, just google it :D I can do a little cube to sphere mapping, but I'm only beginner in Blitz 3d, hahaha can't wait to play 'Infinity game engine..!!!'
