You can play the game without wrath of the lich king, which is an expansion. you DO need the latest patch in order to play, but they are free and are installed automatically. so no worries :)

im getting the impression that bc wasnt installed properly when i put the 2 cd's in from my battlechest cos i keep getting a message saying upgrade to burning crusade.. shouldnt it say upgrade to wrath of lich king? Also , it worked fine for about 2 weeks then suddenly when the new patch came out 3.2.2 it suddenly would update to the current patch and said there was an error , I tried repairing it but it said to try re- installing it aswell so I done that and waiting for patch now.. any ideas?
