There's people who says that there's no worse ideology than German Nazism. The'y re all wrong. Nazis killed 30-40 million people, same as Mongols are, and they both is nothing compared to insane Americans. Given opportunities, Americans would kill billions. i live in Holland, and the germans are fine people to work whit, but this is the history, and they had no choice, but my grandfather was in the Dutch army. and then the "resistance" they went with 19 men. They and more than 200 Germans and killd 30nsbers. (traitor)

#2 Don't judge a nation or a people because of one man's doings. Everyone can do this (for instance everyone could hate the US because of what Bush did), it's the easiest thing in the world. But preserving yourself and your maturity is a harder thing for some people as I read in the comments. If you hate Germany, then why did you click on this video?
Okay, moving on. What is a war? When two or more countries clash (simplified). And what happens in war? People get killed.
#3 It doesn't matter if you're armed or not. From a distance, you're just a blob in the sights of a soldier, who can't risk getting shot. Why I wrote this? Because civilian deaths are inevitable in war. No-one is better than the other. Everyone is equal because we all have one life. One Life.
War crimes: I see many people talking about war crimes. I am a history major, and I know a lot of stuff about the 20th century (I wrote this down to let you know that I'm not pulling this out of my ass).
#4EVERY side commited war crimes. I know of German, US, UK crimes the most, but I will give you just a few examples. Starting with the Germans: As all of you know, Germany killed and hunted jews. That's a known fact. BUT that was the work of the GESTAPO (!!!) not a combat unit, so all you SS haters, I hate to break it to you, but the SS didn't kill civilians. I've looked on files, reports, that had courtmartials, (Wehrmacht) executions, if a soldier was caught killing a civilian.
#5 The SS executed their own soldier if they caught him killing a civilian.
US warcrimes, which were never brought up after the war: US forces had the "hobby" of tying captured german soldiers on their tanks, using them as "shields" against incoming bullets. Most of these germans soldiers died of thirst, or hunger, very little were killed by their own.
UK warcrimes never brought on trial after the war: UK officers executed many captured soldiers...

About how they rounded them up in churches and building and put it on fire, shoot them. Google ss crimes, wehrmacht crimes as well. #6 .... even after Germany surrendered. They hunted german troops who we're making their way to an allied military checkpoint to give themselves up.
USSR warcrimes that weren't brought on trial: USSR tankers had the "fun" of lining up and crushing injured or incapacitated soldiers, who we're unable to retreat with their comrades in arms. Some german prisoners were sent to death camps, other we're impaled, or tied to the back of a truck by their feet, and "dragged back to Berlin".
In a war, there are always maniacs who kill for pleasure. I don't think that each side had "angels for soldiers". My grandfather once told me his first encounter with a german unit, retreating from the russians: the soldier KNOCKED (not kicked down) on the door, and asked my great grandmother if she could spare some food, and is there something they need he can help with in return. My grandfather and his brothers we're so terrified of the soldier, portrayed as a monster by their teacher....
#8... that they hid under the bed. The soldier saw them, got on his knees, and put a chocolate in their hands. My great grandmother gave him some food (a few slices of bread), and told him that she can't really spare anymore. The soldier nodded, and asked what she wants in return. The old lady told him that they need boots because they don't have any for the winter. The soldier left, and returned with two pairs of boots.
#9 Why I wrote this? Because that even if there are maniacs on each side, there are people who want to help the other, and have a certain code of honor in them. I could only give you this example, because this is the one I know. Come on people, have some reason for a change. Soldiers follow orders, that is what they do. Hitler is the one you should hate, not Germany!
#10 Most soldiers were conscripted, they were not even volunteers, and as one of you guys said "most of them wanted to go home, and grow old with their wives/lovers/family". Thank you guys, that's all, and I hope that those people understand this, who write hatred comments here.
P.S.: History is written by the victors, loosers don't even get the chance to be heard. Don't look at history from one side, because all you will see is the propaganda written down, by the local historians. Look at it from all possible sides, and then, you will understand the truth.

Germans are strong people. They beat the French, fought the Brits, fought the Russians for 4 years, and were still giving the Americans a hard time with their nearly depleted armies.
Despite what everyone says of Germans being Nazi Jew killers most were not. I'm sure most if not all of those German soldiers just wanted to go home and be with their families and raise their kids and grow old in peace, and I'm sure every soldier just wants that regardless of what country he's from.

Let's not forget how brave they were defending their territory and nowadays building the strongest economy in Europe, the most modern European country. Country which many others count on nowadays to prevent their economy from sinking.
If it had happened in any other country it would've been the same. And if someone is to blame, The Allies are the ones, after all, If they had taken action when Hitler re-militarized Southern Germany in the very beginning of his delirium for greatness, WW II wouldn't have happened. The British crushed the German Air Force securing the safety of the land of Great Britain, the Americans came to the aid of France and liberated it along with the British. I am a German, and here so far is how bad the Germans are after all. But that's not quite right. My grandpa fought in World War 2 against the Russians. After his force was defeated were all taken prisoner. He was a prisoner of war for 7 years and was released only in 1962 He died a few days after he saw my grandmother. It was bad what did the Germans but it was just as bad what the Allies with the Germans did. So you should think first about their own mistakes before judging so bad about others.
@11chrisse you cannot compare anything that the Nazi's did to what allies did in WW2, the Nazi's took children and experimented on them for godsake while they where alive. Mass graves, and I mean MASS graves, killed because of their ethnicity, the things the Nazi's did is unforgivable, it was in-human, the type of stuff sick physcopaths do. And you talk of Russians? Can you blame the Russians? Germany invaded their homeland, destroying everything, leaving mass graves of thousands of Russians.
@11chrisse Also how could your Grandad be took prisoner by Russians for 7 years when is his force was defeated in WW2 and released in 1962? thats 17 years later, your logic fails in both sense, as Russia was famously renowned for shooting any German soldiers on site or executing them during the push to Berlin. Hence why many Germans fled to the West to be taken prisoner by British and American forces.

@steelhelex More people died in some Russian Gulags then did in Auschwitz, so yes they did. Also at the end of the war some 15,000 German prisoners died in a western run POW camp were they were purposly starved and mistreated. They would shoot them if they got within 10 meters of the fence. It was horrible and much like a concentration camp.
Just type in Eisenhowers death camps into google and u will see. Of course you don't here about it tho because we won.

Just cause POW's had a higher death rate in Germany dosen't make it all right to kill off 750,000 German POW's and go oh well they killed more POW's then us so its accepted.

And your right it did happen all over the SU and one of there solutions was to take everything out of the Ukraine. What about Stalin purges ? What about the Katyn Forest massacre ? The Russians kicked the most ass out of all the Allies and for those of you who don't agree look at the facts. The USSR capture the capital of Germany, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. The Americans captured Rome and that's the only capital of any Axis Power that they captured in the war.

There's people who says that there's no worse ideology than German Nazism. The'y re all wrong. Nazis killed 30-40 million people, same as Mongols are, and they both is nothing compared to insane Americans. Given opportunities, Americans would kill billions. World must pray for the good of Russians, who only have power (nuclear weapons) disallowing those evil people to make most terrifying things in human history.

I have respect for everyone who dies fighting for and beliving in something. And I belive that the german soldiers were not bad or evil at all, they were told to fight, so they fought. Its the same with every other soldier in the world. The real assholes where Hitler, Goebbels, Goering, Himmler and the other dogs that gave orders to for example "reduce" the mass of certain ethnic groups. And the SS, they realy were Nazis, in contrast to the Wehrmacht, and they did most of the massmurdering.

Germany signed the 1929 Geneva Convention and it's armed forces including the regular german army violated it on a systematic scale.
Documented in war crimes like the Commissar Order of 6 June 1941prior to Operation Barbarossa. That instructed the german army in the extermination of prisoners of war according to their political ideology .

i live in Holland, and the germans are fine people to work whit, but this is the history, and they had no choice, but my grandfather was in the Dutch army. and then the "resistance" they went with 19 men. They and more than 200 Germans and killd 30nsbers. (traitor)

#2 Don't judge a nation or a people because of one man's doings. Everyone can do this (for instance everyone could hate the US because of what Bush did), it's the easiest thing in the world. But preserving yourself and your maturity is a harder thing for some people as I read in the comments. If you hate Germany, then why did you click on this video?
Okay, moving on. What is a war? When two or more countries clash (simplified). And what happens in war? People get killed.

War crimes: I see many people talking about war crimes. I am a history major, and I know a lot of stuff about the 20th century (I wrote this down to let you know that I'm not pulling this out of my ass).

#4EVERY side commited war crimes. I know of German, US, UK crimes the most, but I will give you just a few examples. Starting with the Germans: As all of you know, Germany killed and hunted jews. That's a known fact. BUT that was the work of the GESTAPO (!!!) not a combat unit, so all you SS haters, I hate to break it to you, but the SS didn't kill civilians. I've looked on files, reports, that had courtmartials, (Wehrmacht) executions, if a soldier was caught killing a civilian.

US warcrimes, which were never brought up after the war: US forces had the "hobby" of tying captured german soldiers on their tanks, using them as "shields" against incoming bullets. Most of these germans soldiers died of thirst, or hunger, very little were killed by their own.
UK warcrimes never brought on trial after the war: UK officers executed many captured soldiers...

About how they rounded them up in churches and building and put it on fire, shoot them. Google ss crimes, wehrmacht crimes as well. #6 .... even after Germany surrendered. They hunted german troops who we're making their way to an allied military checkpoint to give themselves up.
USSR warcrimes that weren't brought on trial: USSR tankers had the "fun" of lining up and crushing injured or incapacitated soldiers, who we're unable to retreat with their comrades in arms. Some german prisoners were sent to death camps, other we're impaled, or tied to the back of a truck by their feet, and "dragged back to Berlin".

In a war, there are always maniacs who kill for pleasure. I don't think that each side had "angels for soldiers". My grandfather once told me his first encounter with a german unit, retreating from the russians: the soldier KNOCKED (not kicked down) on the door, and asked my great grandmother if she could spare some food, and is there something they need he can help with in return. My grandfather and his brothers we're so terrified of the soldier, portrayed as a monster by their teacher....

My great grandmother gave him some food (a few slices of bread), and told him that she can't really spare anymore. The soldier nodded, and asked what she wants in return. The old lady told him that they need boots because they don't have any for the winter. The soldier left, and returned with two pairs of boots.

Germans are strong people. They beat the French, fought the Brits, fought the Russians for 4 years, and were still giving the Americans a hard time with their nearly depleted armies.
Despite what everyone says of Germans being Nazi Jew killers most were not. I'm sure most if not all of those German soldiers just wanted to go home and be with their families and raise their kids and grow old in peace, and I'm sure every soldier just wants that regardless of what country he's from.

If it had happened in any other country it would've been the same. And if someone is to blame, The Allies are the ones, after all, If they had taken action when Hitler re-militarized Southern Germany in the very beginning of his delirium for greatness, WW II wouldn't have happened. I just hope we have learned from our past mistakes, No one wants to see mo much pain, suffering and loss from both sides. Don't forget that those German officials had family and they were family themselves.

People tend to judge the German people as evil because of WW II. This is just stupid. Of course the Germans weren't ad aren't evil. First of all they were obeying orders, let's remember that it was a dictatorship. Second of all it is easy to judge from our perspective. Germany had been humiliated by the Versailles treat which the Allies insisted so much. Only US President at the time realized it only would raise the anger among the people. Then Hitler steps up promising dignity and respect.

The British crushed the German Air Force securing the safety of the land of Great Britain, the Americans came to the aid of France and liberated it along with the British. And then i got another one saying Britain sucked in ww2 because the Germans managed to invade London - I just left it there, i was literally gobsmacked...

@11chrisse Also how could your Grandad be took prisoner by Russians for 7 years when is his force was defeated in WW2 and released in 1962? thats 17 years later, your logic fails in both sense, as Russia was famously renowned for shooting any German soldiers on site or executing them during the push to Berlin. Hence why many Germans fled to the West to be taken prisoner by British and American forces.

But at the time those 'bad things' happened does not reflect on the people alive today, due to the reason it wasn't the modern day people's fault so they have nothing to apoligise for. The only people to blame for these things are either dead or very old.

@steelhelex More people died in some Russian Gulags then did in Auschwitz, so yes they did. Also at the end of the war some 15,000 German prisoners died in a western run POW camp were they were purposly starved and mistreated. They would shoot them if they got within 10 meters of the fence. It was horrible and much like a concentration camp.
Just type in Eisenhowers death camps into google and u will see. Of course you don't here about it tho because we won.

Just cause POW's had a higher death rate in Germany dosen't make it all right to kill off 750,000 German POW's and go oh well they killed more POW's then us so its accepted.

@steelhelex I know a guy who lived in the Ukraine during the 30's and he said the Russians would come during harvest and load up everything they had and if you oppsed them they would shoot u. And your right it did happen all over the SU and one of there solutions was to take everything out of the Ukraine. What about Stalin purges ? What about the Katyn Forest massacre ? The guy was a murderer just like Hitler. You can try to twist it any way u want. At least the Germans admit they were wrong

Russian soldiers killed woman and children and destroyed villiages on a much larger scale then what the Germans did. (Please don't tell me about the Einzatzgruppen they werent' soldiers) I don't think any German civilian was happy with the SU's conduct

@11chrisse nicht dass das falschvestanden wird mit Stalingrad haben wir aber letztens im Geschichtsunterricht durchgenommen und da hab ich gehört das dass die deutschen oft gewonnen haben , aber bei Stalingrad verloren haben(nicht das ihr denkt ich würde damit sagen wollen dass das gut ist)

The Russians kicked the most ass out of all the Allies and for those of you who don't agree look at the facts. The USSR capture the capital of Germany, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. The Americans captured Rome and that's the only capital of any Axis Power that they captured in the war.

@federanger true but if the Germans were to mount offensives like that against the British or the Americans they would be decimated. Because the Soviets had so many men and like you said the winter, they were able to withstand those assaults. What I was meant to say was that the Soviets contributed the most to the defeat of the Axis Powers during the war.

The first moon landings were performed by a country historically about 200 years old if you date from Deceleration of Independence 1776 to 1969. If the UK has been first to put man on the moon, with this island being known for over 2000 years since BC - would it be any different? The only reason white man did it, is because he persecuted the black man and didn't give him a job in NASA beyond cleaner.
