Well it wasn't *strictly* a kid's show, but it was saturday tea-time "family" viewing and there were many children in the audience, some quite young. If it got too scary or violent, it tended to prompt complaints from certain circles because of this. Google "Mary Whitehouse" and "BBC" if you want an example.
hmmm you are correct but Im sure the writers had alot more than tea time and children when they came up with this stuff. I say let the Doctor be the Doctor
@telegramsam Local public broadcasting station here put "Doctor Who" on at 4:30 or 5 o'clock in the afternoon, probably because the programmers thought it was a kid's show. When someone at the station finally sat down and watched the show, they switched it to 10:30 Friday nights, in hopes that the "kids" would all be in bed, leaving their parents free to watch Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee, Baker, etc., over and over, in rotation, for years.
What was the tune being played at the beginning when the Brig was waiting for the doctor? I like that one.
