  • and this is EXACTLY why this is the greatest movie/video game adaptation. because the fucking director actually played the fucking game. not tried to make a quick buck by reading the cliffnotes

  • @IMN666

Anderson ironically did that for Mortal Kombat.... He loved that game and make a killer flick out of it before others fucked it up with the sequel.

but he did fuck up Resident Evil(even though he probably did love that game too).

  • I loved both the game and the movie. Both are very similar, but there's enough differences in the movie to make it seem fresh. if it was the exact same thing as the game, what would be the point in making a movie?

  • the director clearly gave a shit about S.H, if this was in the hands of the resident evil director, the mom would be doing backflips and shooting monsters in slow motion.

  • @favianutube

Except if he was in Mortal Kombat directing mode.... in which case it would turn out to be one of the funnest video game adaptations ever and it would be near 100% faithful to the plot.

Remember he did make one absolute kick ass VG film....

I still love that Scorpion VS Johnny Cage fight scene! Still one of the most kickass fight scenes ever!

  • Wow! I never noticed how some scenes are so alike!

  • once opon a time a woman took her daughter to silent hill and then a father took his to silent hill the father and the woman found each other and they are chasing their daughters then darkness came they used lighters and they moved forward and then they found a hanging body then they were attacked they wake up in different spots they never saw each other again until the end.

  • Problem number 1: there is just too much Hollywood in this movie... if that makes any sense, like it was trying too hard to be scary.

  • I actually think it was a pretty good film adaptation. If had been EXACTLY the same as the game, I think i would have been bored. I'm glad they mixed things up a bit, it made it more interesting to watch; the monster designs were amazing (i loved the janitor guy in the school).

The only thing I didn't like about the film was the fact that there was no Harry Mason, and they changed Cheryl's name to SHARON of all things. D:

  • And there was a 'dad' in the film too. HE should have been the one in Silent Hill looking for his daughter, and "Rose" should have been the one left behind and searching for them in the real world. The fans would've been happier with that I believe.

I still loved the film though. GREAT! :D

  • @ritsukachoo

In reality the plot would have been much better if the lead character switched over to him for the second hour... It should have played out like that chilling european flick "The Vanishing".

  • I hate it how in the movie they ripped the music straight from silent hill 2,

  • they shudda used harry :/

  • The movie was the worst video game adaptation i've ever seen. Specially the ending.

  • @MADCastro2010 Worst? Apparently you didnt see much of the video game adaptations thats been around for the last few years (tekken, street fighter, resident evil and all uwe boll's crap)

  • Personally, I felt the movie did justice to Silent Hill. I know it wasn't perfectly accuarate in some things, but still it was pretty good compared to other game/movie adaptations...

  • @LovelyRoxxy

    thats true!!

  • @LovelyRoxxy teh bad thing is the music they used in it was originally was in silent hill 2, so the music didnt fit it, the music was made to match james sunderland from silent hill 2,

  • @PokeFreakOfTheYear I agree that the director mixed up the musical score from previous SH games. Still I like that he at least had some sense to put in SH music, enemies, and some of the SH game's plot to the movie. It's nice to know, see, and hear that. You make a good point though.

  • @LovelyRoxxy Comparing with the Resident Evil movies, Alone in the Dark, Bloodrayne, Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, and others... -.-

    Yeah, it's a lot better...

  • i love the real world to otherworld transformation in SH movie

  • best video game adaptation ever to me! Cuz the Resident Evil movies are awful u can tell the director/writers played the games and did their homework on Silent Hill!

  • and people keep bitching that this movie was nothing like the game when it was the most faithful any game based movie has been!!

  • i hate that the story changes in every damn silent hill... and so do the characters. but i think the movie has the best story line of all. its very twisted and well thought out the game was good but its what it should have been.

  • supposedly*

  • As for the symbolism, there was no symbolism in here because if you compare the ideas then they're not there. She hated adults, and yet, there was no concept of that. The children were there, but that still didn't save it. And as for Pyramid Head, you can't hate something that you supposed created, and this puritan group was supposed to be the Order, and they hated the idea of the Orderworld, but in the original idea it was a gateway to their wretched paradise....

  • This movie was a waste of space, in my opinion from the weak Salem Witch Trials to the pointless monsters that were only put in because fans complained to have them in there. This movie was the furthest thing from the concept of the game. It's just weak and broken vanity concept, nothing more......

  • @Twistedimagination12 I agree with you. The director was a supposedly a huge fan of the game(s) but the movie felt like bad AU fanfiction to me. :x

  • I think the movie did a great job.

  • whats the best silent hill game?

  • @fordmike

Most SH fans agree that the first 3 (and maybe the 4th) are the best. The other's aren't too bad either, in my opinion. If you've never played the games before, I suggest starting with Silent Hill 2 or 3.

  • @LostBlossom i honestly think the first three were the best after the 3rd it was a complete downfall

  • the movie was ok, but they changed too mutch from the game

  • I like the movie but the game is better

  • thnks 4 dis.

  • nice video man :)

  • the movie sucked..

  • OMG there is a move(i know im late)

damit and i have the movie too and i didn't know it

  • @mogurface hahahaha

  • im just really pissed that they stuck monsters in the movie that dont fit the character. Whos bright idea was it to put PH in there when the character is innocent in fact the only innocent one in the movie. and dont get me started on the nurses, the sexualized versions of the nurses just dont fit a female character. but i will admit it was cool to see them in live action.

  • @Blaqe62 The monsters in the movie were not manifestation of Rose De Silva's inner turmoils. They were actually projections from both Alessa's fears, and the followers of the Order. Alessa feared nurses when they came with syringes. They dress provocatively to exaggerate their feminine features. Pyramid Head was the common archetypical executioner and punisher for the town- he was born to punish members of the Order for murdering innocent people. He was born out of their inner guilt.

  • I still can't believe people negated the one that was the most true. Your nothing but stereotypers. Want to know about real fanboysm, a purposless fanboy advertisment for the game that the real fanboys woot at. Realy, your excited and you only cope with a VG film as this purposlous fanboy film to see cameos in.

Rather it make the budget only and be cult success and fade away then this garbage or nothing at all.

  • Silent Hill is near Doom's transition as SH is about witch burning as much as Doom is a virus. Can't believe people are doing it on the level of the light similarities such as the openings and things they were bound to have right.

I'm not impressed by similarity, the character is off and is a D to C to most mainstream critics.

Not trying to bash anyone for liking it, but there aretoo many ignorant comments regarding this as the best technical adaption, not so and never will be so.

  • There is more option then this and directly the same. Your like for it is merely too much if it's the only way it could been done. If it can make the budget, then it's merely the fanboy dream of it being "THE BEST which could be a blockbuster, gasp" anyhow.

About the same as Mario as the beginning IS the same...so uhh...yeah.

  • Best videogame to movie translation for sure, yeah they changed the story and stuff but whatever, that's gonna happen, it's kinda like a reboot of sorts, similar plot devices, creatures, angles, characters, music, etc. I'm most definitely hopin' for a sequel.

  • That was super cool. Thanks. :) Silent Hill is awesome.

  • the Game wins Babe ;D also Is Rose suppost to be Heather and Harry ?

(Spoiler IM MY OWN FATHER !!!! )

  • man only this:

THE GAME IS THE ORIGINAL STORY

  • ZOMG bad video aspect and quality :(

  • Wow, that's really cool how they are both so similar

  • After I played the game, and I watched the movie, I loved both of them. Of course any movie they make based off of a game is not going to be EXACTLY like the game. I liked the movie, but there were some really cool parts from the game that they could've included into it. :)

  • Watch my video on the film to explain the film's odd untechnical changes into typicalness.

  • The movie in my opinion the best video game to movie translation I've seen.Any thoughts on this?

  • Iv'e seen better translations, and it made ALOT of money too.

  • Great vid!!!!

  • LOL the beginning is a lot more similar than i thought

  • Good video! It looks almost exactly the same.

  • Good video. Plus, there's loads more scenes like shown here, in the movie, just goes to show how well they recreated it and actually made it feel like Silent Hill because game films rarely follow the games that closely and that's what the fans want.

Being a fan of Silent Hill, id say this film was great.

  • WOW IT'S THE SAME! O_O

  • the game looks more scary

  • the game is more scary. in fact all the games are terrifying

  • unlike other movies based off video games, Silent Hill Movie came close to resembling the game

  • True, it's a pretty good adaptation but how come they can't just do any video game movie like the video game exactly

  • because if it was exactly like the games what would be the point of watching it when I could play the games.

  • Yeah, stick to the Watchmen Novel fags!

  • And no it's not going to be the same exact to begin with, because a true conversion of game scenario is like a 1 issue comic with rough lines and optimizations needed.

After that, it's not an immature subject, there needs to be one other more direct transition. They don't exist in quantity, the technical transition.

After that, this other is more fit for the mainstream audience then anyhow. They merely spliced elements from through out the series, so it's not that different, just random.

  • They matched it to the game pretty damn well

  • no they didn't they left out all the key events :(

  • WHOA @ the movie graphics!!!!

  • why is the person in the game a man but the one on the movie is a girl?

  • Because the stupid director of the film thought Harry Mason had a 'feminine personality', so he turned him into stupid Rose.

  • Both movie and game are awesome tho I found the movie to be muuuuch less scarier than the game, tho the first part still creeped me out alot. I love the fact that atleast in this segement of the movie, much stayed the same.

  • nothing beats the game

  • its a great comparison, but Harry is amazing father

  • At 1:38 - 1:49

You should have put the scene from the movie with the same exact camera angle as the game.

  • I don't remember being able to actively change the angle at your whim in the game.

  • they should have kept that angle in the film =D

  • a retarded part of this movie is when sum1 changed the daughters name :/ cheryl not cherin or watever!

  • Actually its Sharon in the movie,

    & Cheryl in the game

  • what would have made this movie great is the most vital aspect of silent hill, being vague and poetic. the movie made too mutch sense...

  • The first Mortal Kombat and Silent Hill are the most faithul video game to movie adaptations to date!

  • amazing video my friend ;)

  • I know why is that, because the copyrights are protected, so they couldn't do anything whit that. But i am sad because of that.:(

  • I like how they made the whole environment the same pretty much and the monsters the same, even though they took pyramid head from two. That monster was great in the movie, the most I loved about the movie. But I hated how they switched Harry for a girl. He is my favorite character in the series and I would have loved seeing his character in a movie. And I wondered why they changed Cheryl's name to Sharon...? And Dahlia was the bad guy in the game... not so much in the movie... at all.

  • I have every game in the series thus far, just waiting for HOMECOMING :)

everyone has their own opinion, but i prefered Rose than Harry..Harry Mason is my least fav protagonist..Heather FTW!

but the comparison was pretty good here, i have the movie also and i love it :)

  • I loved Heather, but Harry and James are tied for me, Not so sure about Henry. Hopefully Alex from Homecoming will make me love him =P

  • quit having a bitch fit just because you didnt get Harry Mason, cant all of you people understand that adaptations like the silent hill movie are perfect cause it caught nearly impeccable detail from the game including the main entry scenes, besides read up on director notes morons, he made it a plot based around a "mother is god to her child" story.

  • I agree.

  • its almost identical!

    its amazing.

love the movie, love the game.

  • i always assumed the movie was the first game with the characters from the third game

  • I dont remenber so well the movie, but no, the cop cybil, the old women Dahlia Gillespie, and other are from first silent hill, the pyramide head appears on second.

  • I remember Dahlia from ørigins and pyramid head from 2 and the cop cybil from one, but the main character looks just like the girl from 3

  • i gotta say the movie was better..my fave game of all time!!!but it was a pretty good movie nonetheless

  • im plaing the movie and wacthing the game... VERY INTERESTING o-0

  • That's amazing

  • what's the song called?

  • very well done... i dont like video game movies but i think this movie was very well done

  • good work!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing..the sheds right before the darkening ally looks exactly the same!

  • Hehe Harry runs in time with the music

  • yea they gonna come out wit silent hill 2 the movie shortly

  • @CHEMICALx006 shortly? this commend have been posted 2years ago XD

  • Hm, does anyone know why they put a woman instead of Harry?

    Not complaining, just curious.

  • Christophe Gans, the director of the movie, thought Harry acted like a mother more than like a father. He thought it worked well in a video game but not really in a movie in which you need a deeper psychological side to the protagonists. He explains it well in the interview he gave in The Silent Hill Experience.

  • Ooooh, I see ... thanks.

  • Beautifully done! Love the comparison between the original and the movie's atmosphere

  • This is probably the best adaptation of a video game made into a movie that I've ever seen.

It could have been a lot better!

And hey might make a 2nd Movie!

Hopefully, it will be better than the 1st.

One thing I would recommend is that to have some returning characters from the game like they did in resident Evil, No?

  • Damn, that was gooooooood! :)

  • That was cool, they got the intro pretty accurate

  • wow I never realized how similar they are.

I played SH 2, 3 and part of 4, but never played SH 1.

  • they switched the story around too much for my liking

  • i wish i would have played the game before seeing the movie. the movie was frightening. i can see that they did it just like the game too.

  • the movie was nothing compared to the game >:)

  • @gameguides but still a very good movie

  • @gameguides still..you gotta admint they stayed quite close to the original story unlike other game to movie adaptations

    a.k.a. "Resident Evil'

but still..I like both versions game and movie of all this stuff considering the movies are like alternate timelines to the true them :D

  • @StuartTheGamerNerd u copied me u hoe i invited that fukn sentence ugggh

  • ahhh está bien koOol...te quedoO muy bien yeah!!!

  • well duh harry was frightened, you are in a town with no escape, looking for (your) daughter. monsters are after you and there is an evil cult after (your) daughter. i'd be scared shitlss to if that happened to me. i wouldn't even make it to (my) daughter. also rose did not even escape silent hill, so harry is so much better

  • Woow buen trabajo, felicidades

  • Thanks for making and posting this. :o)

I haven't played the game yet, but am currently thinking about getting it.

The movie didn't really convince me for some reason, but I did love the setting and the atmosphere.

Seeing a couple of sequences in direct comparison was quite interesting - I wonder whether I'll end up preferring the game over the movie as most people seem to do. :o))

What's the first instrumental used in the video by the way?

  • Aaargh, nevermind...

Just found out it's the SH soundtrack. :o))

I'll just blame it on the fact that I haven't played the game yet. :-D *blush*

  • The games were way better if you ask me, but maybe that's just because I played the games before I saw the movie...

  • by comparison, it really is one of the better movies based on a game though,

  • It shouldn't even be called "Silent Hill." It was more like a movie loosely based on Silent Hill. The only thing really true to the game was the setting; but the plot, characters, everything, it was like the writers and the director just played the beginning of the game, gave up, read a summary or two, and started making up their own idea of what's in Silent Hill.

  • @manicmuffin Thank you. About time someone saw it through my eyes.

  • Very interesting and well done, thanks for posting! :D

  • cool!

  • the director said in an interview that the reason he changed harry's character into rose is cuz he felt in the game harry was a very complex character and had alot of qualities that women stereotypically are portrayed with such as being over emotional and easily frightened and it would be too difficult to portray him accurately in such a short time frame so he changed harry into rose cuz he didnt want the audience to think that the leading character was a pansy

  • Radha Mitchell is fine!!!

  • excelent good job

  • This is a very good comparison, well done. The game intro is miles better than the film one.

  • the movie was a piece of shit, a watered down vision of silent hill.

  • The movie was actual pretty good and had a lot details, since camera angles, detail on the monsters, detail of the town and many, you're just so blinded by the game that you actually expected to have a control while you were wathing the movie, it's a friggin' movie not the game man!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is suppose based on the game, right?. But they've changed everything. First changed Harry to a woman ( a stupid change). Second the whole story is changed. Third the Christ character it just made the movie boring. Fourth changed how the Silent Hill world was. Fifth they put Pyramid Head without a reason (In the first game there wans't pyramid head, but in he was in the second game because of James). Sixth they've put a lot of people in the town.

  • @kinnikuchu There was a reason. A stupid one, but there was one. He was based on a woman's sexuality, hence why he's buff and half naked.

  • Seventh they didn't put the part of Lisa death (one scene many fans remember) because they've changed Harry. Eight the cibyl character wasn't like in the game. Nineth the movie doesn't have that horror the game has.

  • And the last, I think the director just played the begining of the first game, because he made it well at the beginnig but then it sucks. Also think that change Harry to a woman it's a horrible error, just think that in the game everyone next to Harry were females. Cheryl (a girl) Cybil(a woman) Lisa (a woman) Dahlia(a woman) except the doctor, but almost everyone were females and in the movie nothing makes sense.

In conclusion the movie just sucks

  • In conclusion it's based on the game, you said it at first, it's not the game, OK? breath a little.

  • And what about the movie 300 is just like the comic and it's perfect. Why they didn't made it just like the game?

  • dude, relax. Sure it wasn't perfect, but it was way more faithful to the game than say, the Resident Evil or Tomb Raider movies

  • I think this is the only game-movie transition that was at least decent

way better than Mortal Kombat, Resident evil, Tomb Raider, Bloodrayne, house of the dead, alone in the dark, street fighter...

  • the comic book and game are 2 differebt things

  • lol

  • first of all dude the reason he changed harry into a girl is because he has the qualities of a steroetipical woman. if they did that in the movie everyone will think he's a pussy

  • You're argument is stupid. Do you think Harry Mason is a pussy?. And what about Tom Cruise in the war of the world, he wanted to protect his daughter just like Harry. I think anyone who think Harry Mason is a pussy, is just stupid. Harry Mason was perfect for a movie, in the game he never acted like a woman. Do you people think that only womans can love their children?.

    That's stupid.

  • If that's stupid, I'm afraid you'll have to tell that to the director of the movie since he himself admitted what Pesoga3 said (qualifying it a bit though).

  • nice saying, Harry FTW!!!

  • "You're argument is stupid.

    That's stupid."

    I agree with you. ;)

  • @kinnikuchu Thank you! I can't believe people actually think that only a mother could care for their child, it makes no sense to me whatsoever. I completely agree with you.

  • That was a VERY well-made video!!! My brother and his wife had wanted to see what the comparison was to the game, and this would be perfect to show them!

    Thanks a lot!,

    Mike Sorge

  • Do the rest pleeeaaaseeee!!!! >.<

  • NICE VIDEO ^^

  • it was a good movie, and i liked how you put the video togetehr. it's weird how they were so alike, but still so different.

the only reason that it was weird that the parent was female in the movie is because at one point, in the game, soemthing supposedly happens between the cop and the father.

  • I think the only reason they changed it to be a female actor was because if they would have had a male it would automatically be more action in it, 'cause I think that in movies males just standardly hits the monsters rather than flee.

I really liked this video, I'm gonna show it to some of my friends whom haven't played the games but watched the movie.

  • I think that although the lead was male in the game and female in the film, Radha mitchell did Silent Hill Proud as the strong lead that every game has.

  • The movie was at least better than Game #4, I thought it was okay and quite viewable even for fans.

  • look the silent hill series kicks ass the movie also is good but their should of been a diff director cuz having a dad instead of the mom would be better it just fits this story better with a dad

  • Ya well, thats American media for you. Take something and change it to what you THINK would be better. But in the end either screw it up, or cause it to lose most of its feel.

  • whats the second music's name?

  • I like the way you put it together. Yeah, I payed the game first and loved it.. although it had differences, (lack of harry, an using the symbolic Silent Hill 2 monsters in the Silent Hill 1 story-which was weird was all that bothered me) I like them both a lot, but the games just do more for me.

    Anyway, Nice Video.

  • I dont know why the hell you guys are all whiney about a female as the main character in the movie.. I personally thought she fit in very well and did a great job.

  • i totally agree

  • I third the motion.

  • @xDilutedx We're not whining because there's a woman in it, because Heather was a great character that people love. We're whining about the fact that he stated the reason he was changed was based on some sexist standard that a father can't be sensitive and care for his daughter.

  • @RustCrimson - I had no idea what the hell you were talking about, till I realized my comment was from over 4yrs ago...

  • very nice vid man, very well done, identical... but the movie sucks anyway :P

  • Very nice, but I agree with those who mentioned you should have captured the alley scenes that had the exact same camera angles.

  • If you played the game first you'll know that it's 1000% better than a movie. Silent Hill the movie is so fucked up I don't think they really understand the concept of the game story.

  • SpaceBARRR, y'know... It's not that they didn't understand the concept of the game story, rather than they wanted to make an original story based off of the game's.

  • You're right... I just feel like they ruin the game reputation by making bad movie.

  • The movie wasn't bad...

  • Yeahh... Sorry just my opinion, I should say that at the first time.. If you like the movie then... it's good.

  • yea, it is more accurate than other movies based on video games. Take Resident Evil for example... god knows the plot holes and the differences that contridict that movies series. Silent Hill movie was good and I liked the symbolism and monsters.

  • Try explaining that to the countless morons, especially on IMDB, who flat out say how "exactly the same" the movie and games are. Usually even going so far to say the plot is the same. Just because the director said the movie Christian cult is just an opposing cult in Silent Hill.

No, no it's not. They don't exist in the games and the world was not the result of their actions. Then watch them explain how the monsters or atmosphere are "exactly the same", somehow justifying that as "the plot".
