Texas has the largest national gaurd in the country and if it was a military force itself it would be one of the largest in the world (Top 20 or so) With over 40,000 or so members and hundreds of armored vehicles.

Kind of. All states have their own National Guards, which (depending on where you're from, I'm guessing GB?) is kind of like the Home Army...they're locally recruited and mostly used for state emergencies and such. They can be Federalized by the President and used just like a regular army unit. Some states additionally have smaller units that aren't subject to Federalization (Texas State Guard).

I'm not Guard (yet, hope I pass my physical) so if I'm wrong somewhere someone pls correct me.
