  • very nice groove

  • A song everyone can dig! Recommendation for you dubsteppers: Qubit did a remix of this called Fu Man Poo (Dubstep) - Qubit. It does it heavy mod justice! Hartd to beat the original beats, though.

  • not my favorite trojan artist but if your a real ska fan u have to have at least one desmond record

  • wow this is a heavy tune!! i thought it was a funny reggae tune with a silly take on chinese sounds but it turns out to be a carefully crafted and soulful song with lyrics full of wisdom about lifes inner struggles. superb tune man!!!!

  • Magnifique

  • Tasty dubstep remix of Fu Manchu at soundcloud . com/qubit-2/fu-man-poo if you're into it!

  • RIP

  • "It's what you keep that makes you a man" (When you die..) What you keep inside your soul makes you man, not the job you have or had or the things you buy. The place of Fu Man Chu is indeed a spiritual place. One of enlightenment and acceptance and detachment. Rumbambalo bambalobabam dey. Praise jah

  • @PastaForIandI You got it, my friend. I think that's exactly what he's saying.

  • It's like... psychedelic reggae. Very nice

  • wicked smooth roots!!!

  • is not what you earn that make you a man but is what u keep that make you a man

this is the face of Fu Manchu

  • This is a solid song!!!!

  • I was loitering (with intent to purchase) around an outdoor reggae market stall the other day. The usual reggae-heads were there talking their obsessive stuff, and this guy says, "you gotta check Fu Manchu by Desmond Dekker, its a seriously heavy tune..." so I came and checked it out right here... and its a killer tune... I think I agree with flacRacka. "its not what you earn that makes you a man, its what you keep that makes you a man." And he's not talking about what's in your piggybank...

  • @badmartianshrew massive my buay u r on ur way RASSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • @badmartianshrew It's all about the size of your penis?

  • @illegalsmirf No mate!! That's the way your mind works, not mine!! I think the tune's about the value of wisdom over money, and that you ultimately can't put a price on wisdom. I think he's saying it in a very simple, and yet also cryptic way. Jamaicans have a way of dropping words on you like a bomb. Mind you, I could be totally wrong, and if I am then somebody please put me right...

  • People love the 'warm' feeling of these old recordings, as do I. but I also wish there could be more 'low end'

More bass getting picked up by the old mic's (which audio engineers seem to love)

(please don't send me your comments, I won't read them) I'm just sharing my feelings. I love Des!

  • @calico992 i agree, but i also have a feeling it would completly ruin old songs like this, itd be good to hear though

  • dd..king of ska!

  • great great song , roots

  • shivivivers down ya spine!

  • It's a place of transcendence this. After we shed the body and our likes and dislikes this is what we're left with. That is the message friends.

  • Heard this song on the sound track of the football film cass go see it if you havent

Fu Man Chu is a fictional character in chinese literary history its also a type of moustache.

    So yes completely random.

    What a wicked tune.

  • my favourite too. i love the lyrics but does anyone know if Fu Man Chu means something related to the other lyrics or is it as random as it looks?

  • maybe people with the fu man chu facial hair tend to be the businessman types that talk about things and money..? maybe

  • Well, "The Face of Fu Manchu" is probably a reference to a film that came out in '65 (not sure when the song originally came out) but the Fu Manchu character was well known long before that. He's the prototypical super villain who wants to take over the world. Or rather wants to help China take over the world. The concept and execution (in moves and books) of the character is terribly racist. But anyway yeah it's not a huge stretch to see him as a symbol of dividing by wealth and wealth/class.

  • *That is "it's not a huge stretch to see him as a symbol of dividing by wealth/class or nationality."

  • i always thought that the song was about keeping secrets, not bragging about money etc - i.e. being inscrutable (like Dr Fu Manchu)

  • @simoisace FUMANCHÚ aqui en Argentina es quien se eleva en armonía compartiendo la hierba con sus hermanos. Fumancheros!
