Very good job other than the pot shot at the end. I have a question that may or may not be answered. Why is there nothing written about Jesus in the Roman annals? Is there any records of things Pilot or any Roman scholars said about him. I'd like an unbiased attempt to sort this out. I have read that nothing was written about Christ until 50 to 75 years after his death. Did Pilot keep records of who he crucified and do they exist? Did the Jews keep records of who was a threat to them?

OMG!!! A video about the mark of the beast, that actually agrees with historians!!!! Yes, 666 is the numerical number for Neron (in Hebrew) or 616 (phonetical spelling of Nero) that are found amongst the early Greek manuscripts of the Book of Revelations. The book has nothing to do with what will happen in our time (or the future), but what was happening to John in his own time.

At that time, the Roman Empire was THE empire. It stretched across the known world, and so was considered 'global' in that respect (i.e. it was everywhere people knew about). The Roman Empire would also have had it's own currency, so technically there was 'one currency' too. Revelation is a book of visions, so it's meaning is naturally shrouded in symbols... As I said in the video, these were dangerous times for Christians, so they used coded language when talking about their enemies.

Some speculated that John's vision is shrouded in mystery to hide the meaning from the Romans, but most scholars denounce this idea because Romans didn't make Christian/Jewish literature part of their normal reading practices. Things like sacred numbers, geometry, and ancient wisdom were what defined theology (and not systematic theology which is derived from western theology). Christianity has made several changes in its theology since John's vision.

That makes sense, but who are these scholars you refer to? Most biblical scholars I've read (and studied under) go along the 'shrouded in mystery to hide the meaning from the Romans' route.

Of course Christianity has made changes to its theology (one just needs to read the four Gospel accounts of the resurrection to see that), and I agree that Systematic Theology is a western invention. But none of that takes away from the idea that Revelation is more symbolic mystery than literal history!

Dr. Ehrman was the first to prose the idea that this was never intended to hide the idea from the Romans (being that Romans didn't read up on the latest Christian literature). Some of the symbols are explained in terms that any Greeco-Roman citizen would pick up on (like the city that rests on the seven hills). Changes in theology though has less to do with the four gospels and more to do with the early church fathers than anything else.

BTW - I agree with Dr Ehrman's thesis that the biblical texts have been changed/added to over the years, which is why I believe the King James Version to be the only reliable and inerrant version of the Bible...

Agree to disagree? Absolutely! Most Biblical scholars disagree on many things. It would be weird if we both agreed on everything given we have taken different positions as to God. I have to laugh about the KJV joke in there. I own a facsimile copy of the 1611 Authorized Version, so I am more fundamental than those independent baptists who only claim to use the 1611 version when they use the unholy 1769 Oxford Edition.

Yes, that is true Dr. Ehrman is right about additions and changes. We can see that was done with the Pentateuch. It is likely both certain books were changed as the proto-orthodox Christians took hold as well as changes in books that were accepted while rejecting books that conflicted with majority opinion on what orthodoxy ought to be.

Ironically it is the number of imperfection since 7 is the number of perfection and divinity. Most Eastern Orthodox Christians believe that man is made perfect or complete when they participate and become unified with Christ and thus consider the completion of the creation of man to occur at the cross (when Jesus says, "It is finished.").

The Book of revelation does not prophecy about OUR future but of the 1st century - AD 64- 70 . "the things must SHORTLY take place" Rev 1:3 John wrote it in AD 64 when Nero was Caesar.

The Mark was the number of a man -Nero Caesar. the number is 600, 60 and 6 - not 666. In Hebrew it spells Nero's name. We have no future Beast to look for ... but there are many anti-christs - - - - -
