The DE is questionable at best. It is very slow acting so many people question its effectiveness. Apparently it does kill bedbugs fairly reliably in laboratory testing though as it is mechanical and bugs cannot build up a resistance. The trouble is getting the bug to walk over it in the first place. That's why I said to rip out the mattress backing. you have to put the DE in their path.
@joelzwilliams I will first agree that this battle can be won, there are many ways to be rid of bedbugs effectively, and inexspensively and there's no getting around the work it takes. Please visit my channel and maybe pick up a few more ways to avoid poisoning ourselves with chemicals and pesticides, I have a natural solution that keeps the family's, home's, workplace and pet's safe and begins immediately. We want to help win in this struggle!
also, ripping out the 'backing' of your matress opens up another world for them to thrive, and spraying without being dilligent will just cause them to spread to an area, such as another room, where u haven't sprayed.

@Hazelnut2448 Sorry you feel that way, the purpose of ripping the "backing" of the mattress is to allow YOU access to that area. The sad truth is that the bugs have already been there for weeks by the time you notice them.
@joelzwilliams no, im not being a prude, im saying that 'some' well made matresses, like the one i helped someone debug, was actually placed really well, not a single sign, and the exeirience was that she wasnt dilligent enough in spraying after the gravity of the situation was realized 1st, subsequently allowed them to move there as well, and in turn had to pitch the entire room. This is probly not typical. i appreciate your efforts and wonder about this diatomaceous earth, really effective??
OMG We have had bedbugs for almost a year, and it's making my life hell!! I feel like it's hopeless, we've sprayed and sprayed.....wrapped up the mattress and boxspring in plastic. Washed and washed the bedding, curtains, clothes....anything washable. Ugh, just now had a bedbug feasting on my leg......I'm ate up from neck to feet and I'm going nuts!!!!!!
@liyah37066 Are you still fighting this battle? You sound soooo frustrated here. I have something that will give you your life back. It's inexpensive and works like a dream. However it is real. Many are searching for solutions, so how about being able to travel, visit and receive company with no worries, no pesticides, no harm but real results. Visit my channel and or msg me, I'm here to help.
good question. The short answer is that I am not smart enough to know the distinction. I was trying to illustrate the presence of the exoskeleton and the importance of the mechanical blocking effects of DE. Comparing the BB to roaches, ticks, etc., seemed easier at the moment.
@toothpaste237 the one-two punch method of killing the bugs described here (clorox and D.E.) will still work even if you don't have a box spring. the bugs will still have an area called a "harborage" somewhere nearby where you sleep. You should be able to locate it with some careful observation, e.g., behind light switches, dressers, upholstered chairs, couches, etc.

@meanmopar426 2) Pants Pockets in clothing either hanging, or folded and placed in drawers is another snug hide out for them. Back packs ect. So be sure to wash ALL your cloths in Hot Water. While they are being washed, spray the closets, Chest of Drawers, especially the inside/outside edges. If your mechanically inclined, check PC towers, clocks etc. They like hiding where they can stay warm.
@meanmopar426 Please be extremely careful anytime you mix ammonia and bleach, I believe the byproduct is similar to phosphene gas. potentially lethal. Very similar to what the Brits and Germans used during WWI trench warfare. (chemical attacks).
Thanks brotha I am so impressed with your video but I must say that Im very much concerned about the method due to potential long term lung ailments.Chlorine and the DE stuff whew! and does anyone know where to buy metal box springs?
@TheMidcoast1 excellent point. This should not be considered a long-term solution. This video is intended as a stop-gap measure for people with limited money so that they can get some sleep while they stack their chips and plan to get out. Nothing beats a professional series of spray treatments by a licensed pro with good chemicals. If this process is used that way, the long term harm is minimal. I am walking proof of that.
@TheMidcoast1 the best suggestion that i can give you is to purchase a metal cot. they're perfect. Look up "Pragma Bed" on youtube to start, but there are so muany different kinds that can be bought at wal-mart, target, ect.
When you spread the diatomaceous earth- wear dish washing gloves, a mask, and eye protection. Do it slowly and don't kick up the dust. Work for fleas infestations as well. Thank you for your wonderful information, Joel :D
Thanks for the tips I'll try the clorox. They don't disturb my sleep and I have no red marks but I see them, and I have canarys so I don't want to use anything that could hurt them
@eldjada Thanks for the props. I have learned that a researcher at Yale has a bedbug that he's fed only once in over 2 years. So that should give you some idea how long they can go without feeding. Also, many states are now shifting the responsibility to landlords to disclose if their have EVER been bedbugs in the dwelling. Be certain to ask this question and get them to sign something to that effect BEFORE you move in.
This may be an odd question, but I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and it's about to be 116 degrees out. I know the critters die at about 120, so what if I turned the heater on and opened the windows all day, would that really help? (In addition to this method, of course). Thank you.
@unclearless. Good Question (about the ambient temperature being hot enough to kill bedbugs). Actually the U.S. Defense Department ran a series of tests back in the 50's and 60's were they attempted to do just what you explained. The short answer is no, it does not work reliably. The DOD tried wrapping mattresses in plastic and leaving them outside in the El Paso TX heat, to no avail. That's why they stuck with DDT and other toxins. However exposure allows bird and other predators to eat some.
Just got a note that they coming to check my apartment for bed bugs because the people next to me suppose to have it so they say? I'm gonna do what u said and check my bed tonight and i have a bottle of bleach. I guess it's killzone time.
thank u. very informative. It's a shame tht any clorox, bleach product just kicks up asthma attack, but i'd use also BORIC ACID=cheap cheap at dollar store or dollar general-tht stuff is SAFE and kills. dn't forget molding in bedroom door frames, take off switch plates on light switches and puff w.boric acid or the Diatomaceous powder/or dust in w/a small paint brush-good preventative anyway regardless if u live in an apt.
@WonderWomanFan4life , Sorry, I did say dinosaur but I really meant fossilized algae and other simple protozoa that were alive at the time of the dinosaur.
LOL hey i was listening. i thought it was funny as hell. Yeah you are right about it. i use it. it also is good to lower blood pressure, helps nails/hair to grow. its a face mask cream, and it has many uses as well as the bed bug thing.. gets rid of snails. i also HATE those box frames. i got rid of those since i saw your video and others. i have STEAL bed frame no box at all. those are getting very popular
@joelzwilliams hey thanks for posting very helpful. i had to throw away my mattresses and box spring due to allergies and itches from dust mites, and bed bugs. i will try your methods on my new mattresses.
Yeah New york is infested with these things. to the point I dont even want to go to NY.. I heard the movie theatres everywhere has them. The are on West Coast too but NY NIKe store was on News for being closed down because of BEDBUGS..they do not even sell beds there they sell shoes. Can you imagine buying a new pair of shoes 200 and they got bed bugs eeeeww.. hey gotta go.. nice posting. do your thang bro.
YOu must open windows. Hell nobody can stand the smell of chlorox. Are you for real?? I think they should TOSS the Bed box spring. I personally do not use box springs. The new deal is the metal bed bottom you can get at furniture bed store, WALMARTS they are like 65 to 100 for a king size/Queen i would check prices do not pay more than 100 bucks but the new thing is NO Box springs. The whole bed needs to be tossed. eeeeeew.. but good tips.
That is wicked. I actually ordered some to put in my drink 1/2 lb. Food Grade Codex Diatomaceous Earth ORGANIC... i dont know i put in my shake. I paid like 8 bucks. OMFG.. seriously.. GREAT info brother!
HOMEMADE INTERCEPTOR TRAP: I used 2 plastic containers per bed leg from food products Put bed leg inside the smaller container, and then use a larger container on the outside to form a mote. Make sure the sides of the 2 containers don’t touch. Use white hockey tape on the outside of the larger container so bugs can climb in. Use a cotton ball and lightly coat all sides of the two plastic containers with talc baby powder, except outer taped side. Wash out once a month and re-apply talc.
@SpiderMann3 Use the homemade traps on each leg of you bed and couch. Make sure you pull bed away from wall, and don't let ant blankets touch the floor. Don't use boxspring skirt or store things under the bed. Wash all beding and clothes in hot water and use the dryer on hot setting. This will kill bed bugs.
Bed bugs can't climb vertical smooth surfaces like polished metal or plastic when lightly coated with talcum baby powder. Talcum baby powder is more slippery than cornstarch baby powder.

why go all the way up to phylum arthropodia? insecta is the order...that works too
they are true bugs (elongated sucking mouthparts) related to aphids, stinkbugs, Triatoma sanguisuga (kissing bugs) etc.
