This is from Earl Klugh's "Solo Guitar". I bought it back in 91' when I got back from Desert Storm. I used to play it for my daughter, Saige, who was born while I was over there...
Great Job.. is that a CF-Martin HD-28 you're playing? Wny are you playing it left-handed, that only adds to the difficulty factor; play right like me.
Stephen Bennett Plays that in his show on a Harp Guitar.. I can't see anything on youtube with that song and him, you might want to check it out.. or have Stephen check yours out instead.. very nice.
There is a freeware tab editor available called PowerTab. I have found the tab for this arrangement in the .ptb file format for that program. Just google it.
i responded to you months ago about singing to my rescue irish setter. We fell upon you once again tonight,,, he sits and love me singing the words to your music... don't ask me why? He has found his forever home and this is our "connection song"... thanks from the bottom of his empty red head.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAAHHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAAHHAHA Youre so topical!!!! You should go on tour with carlos mencia you wacky character!!!!! Ripped that one right out of the headlines!!! HA!!!
Dude, Your an idiot and an ass to interject this into the coversation about this young mans fine guitar playing. Inspite of ANYONES political views, you Sir, should be ashamed.
One of the most under valued songs ever. The melody of this tune is just genius. For some reason I hadn't heard earl klugh's version yet. Thanks for the head's up!
VERY pretty to hear this with solo guitar. Nice job!!!
I concede that the guy has a funny haircut but Ben Harper is not that good I went and looked up some of hus youtube stuff maybe you like it more but it isnt close to the same level of musicianship Earl Klugh who wrote this arangement is a god of guitar
Crazy yes, but I rescued an irish setter heading to a kill shelter. I sing this song to him daily, with your video and it soothes the average beast. It's been instrumental. I searched many to find a soothing background (and hey I'm not a vocalist) but my Bailey loves it and he is now in a forever home. Thanks, I wandered onto some music to accompany me while I made this big red boy a keeper. Much love.
Sure hope your wedding gig went well. Could you kindly tell me what key this is in? Any special drop key tuning? Thanks! I've listened to this every day for months.
That's awesome, I was wondering if you had a transcription of this somewhere or knew where I could get one. I tried this by ear and I don't think I'm right in a few spots.
I'm jealous. You sound more like Chet Atkins than Earl Klugh, but they always sounded similar to me. I will make learning this song my full time hobby, but I doubt I will do it as well as you. Nice key changes. Awesome! Southpaws confuse me, though. What key is that in?
Nice job. You really worked up the tune beautifully prior to posting. I've always wished I could find some tab (other than this one) from his solo CD. I love some of his arrangements on that cd... sounded great, thanks
Very Nice! Earl's "Solo Guitar" album is my favorite. This song always makes me smile. You deliver the same longing and hope into it as Earl did. Thanks for the quality musicianship. Let's hear some more!
Thanks so much! Yes, Earl's solo albums are also my favorites from his work. His latest solo album, which I forget the title of right now, has the best solo guitar mix I've heard from him. The bottom is rich and the top is bright but never thin.
Exact, precisely done Earl Klugh rendition of this song. Well done. You appropriately smiled at the key change, because you know you nailed it. Good for you. Thanks for posting it. Did you do it by ear?
Very much appriciated comment. Yes - this was learned by ear, which is how I learn almost all of music I choose to learn. While I can read music, I find using my ears to be much more satisfying and (because I do it all the time) extremely easy. Someone once told me that guitarists are notorious for not liking to read music...for better or for worse, I am one of them :)
Hey there and thank you! The answer is yes, I do play Classical Gas. Funny enough that was the second song I learned on the guitar - well I learned it all right, but executing it cleanly with even decent feel was too much to ask for origionally. It was only after learning a lot of other things on the guitar that I choose to come back to this piece and learn it again. Sorry for the delay in responding.
sgush, this tune is from "Wizard Of Oz" starring Judy Garland. By the way, Alex, can you play "Ding dong the witch is dead" the Earl Klugh version? Keep them videos coming. Best wishes.
Sorry steelydan for not responding sooner. I finally found Earl Klugh's version of "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead". It definitely sounds like something that I could ear out on the guitar. Because I'm currently learning new material for a wedding I'll be performing at, I have to stick to only that material and not introduce too much else. After the wedding, however, it will be more likely that I will have the time to learn this one. Thanks for getting me interested!
hi alex, this is a beautiful song you are playing. i always thought this was an earl klugh comp, but in fact its a version. keep up the good work. can you also play these two songs from earl klugh:
any old time of the day & you make me feel so young.
Hi sqush: The answer to both of these tunes is currently no. Unfortunately I have not listened to Earl Klugh's version of either of these pieces. Eventually I will get around to it and I may choose to learn them. Thanks for the request.
Awesome skill!!! I have not been playing guitar for a while since I have a child. My best moment was meeting Stefan Grossman in BBC Shepperd Bush London doing a recording of ragtime guitar music. I was one of the guitarist among seven others. Being a Chinese and playing ragtime guitar music was abit odd but Stefan help to put me at ease. I have some guitar tabs from Stefan which includes Scott Joplin's and Blind Blake numbers. You can have them if you are interested. Cheers!
Thanks steelydan8982! I'll hold off on the guitar tabs for now, but thanks for offering. I can only imagine how having to raise a child/family could affect practice time. It sounds like are a dedicated father - which is probably harder than being a dedicated guitarist. You can't just put "him/her" down when you get tired.
Beautiful arrangement and performance!
