@JohnDeere30201 It kind of has that 6-71 sound at high RPM but there is no way that little 7 liter detroit could push a rig up a hill like that. Detroits have a hard enough time pulling their own weight without worrying about pushing another truck!
ATF Agent: "Tennessee Highway Patrol has EYEWITNESS accounts of 4 tractor-trailers, slamming the HELL out of each other down 7 miles of interstate!! Now 3 of those trucks are DESTROYED and their drivers are DEAD and we cannot keep pulling state cops off of this every time they want to play bumper cars!!!"
this movie taught me all about values about what a man would do for his family and a great movie to have trucks play a great role in the movies too bad nowadays you couldnt get a decent truck movie cause of all hollywood is GAY
everyone knows that Peterbilts are the best trucks out there nothing runs as good as a peterbilt. it doesnt mater if both trucks have identical motors and transmissios and everything that peterbilt logo makes'em sound ten times better
@MrBrockberg Mack, and Kenworth are better, and as far as transmissions goes Peterbilt (or any truck company for that matter) don't make their own the best transmission is Eaton. Peterbilt has been riding their name for years (source experience as a truck mechanic)
@VFA103JollyRogers they dont make their own motors or transmissions your correct . i never said they did but if you did a majority vote alot of ppl would say peterbilt and hey nothing wrongs with mack
@Randythetrucker no not air pressure he burned out his Drum brakes, and as for his trailer disconnecting there is no real world explanation besides hollywood special affects
I didn't expect much at the beginning but I was impressed. This Action movie was very cool and entertaining. Car Chase scenes were awesome and the acting was decent. Patrick Swayze (RIP darling) was brilliant as always plus Brenda Strong, Randy Travis, Meat Loaf, Brian Kelly, Gabriel Casseus, Charles S. Dutton and Stephen Tobolowsky were great as well. The final scene-chase was memorable.
i own the truck out of the movie, and yes it as a cat in it.
and the sound is mix in after the movie is shot. but i can tell you that the mufflers on the pete do make it sound like it as a 892 in it. only at high revs, at low revs she could sneak up on you and all you can hear is the turbo winding down.
i allso own two 892 jimmys,one in a kenworth with a 9 speed,in it, and its 475 hp
and it as plenty of torque. they are a good motor, this little kenny made me the money to buy black dog.
This movie has so many things wrong with it but somehow yet it is still a good movie like the truck hitting the mobile home wouldn't make it fly up in the air that high
My granddad had a D6 CAT dozer he used onj the farm about a '53 model. Had oil pumps at both ends of the motor. This is why. And part of the reason why they last.
I love this movie despite it's inaccuracies! I was hauling horses across the country with my Ford F-350, and my assistant (He didn't drive, just helped with the horses and stayed awake if I slept) was sleeping in the back seat, and the guy ahead of me was hauling a load of trash cans and one fell out and I ran it over, my buddy woke up and asked "What was that?!?!?!" I couldn't resist... "Mazda." We laughed our asses off!
Great movie, but notice at the final crash... no engine in the truck... I guess it was taken out to make the truck lighter and easy to flip, but its really noticable.
I love Black Dog, But I found to many flaws to this movie, so it is not as enjoyable any more, I found four flaws with this scene, should have had a better director, or at least special effects. But it is still a great movie.
Aint nothing like a Maxxforce 15 engine (Caterpillar is no longer making highway engines and joined Navistar/Maxxforce and together they made a new 15 liter engine.
Meet Patrick Swayze and Rick Aviles, years ago when they were filming "Ghost" in Brooklyn. Bothe of these men were perfect gentleman. They spent over an hour talking to a group of high school kids(me and others) and really just down to earth nice guys. To both of these men RIP
Slooter you need to go rent and watch the entire movie. When Swayze agrees to take the load he does a walk around on the black Pete. He asks junior what it's got for power. Junior says "3406 Cat Eaton Fuller nine speed, good tires new brakes". The last 2 stroke Detroits were built around 1988. The highest HP was the 8V92T twin turbo 440 Horse. This truck is newer than that. It's a Detroit soundtrack just dubbed in.
@TheSuperCRASHer If they did no doubt they'd load it down with CGI scenes and have trucks flying hundreds of feet through the air and other shitty, unrealistic stuff like that. That's the nice thing about this movie and others like Convoy and Duel, all of it is real.
@trailerkingpin I'd thought up a design for a show truck/movie truck, but i can't decide if i want the 3406B Cat engine or the 8V71 Detroit. Either a Peterbilt or Western Star truck; both sound good to me. Got any advice?
@Fireheart528 Combine the 2 engines and add parts from a Cummins, use the frame of a KW, the body of a Peterbilt 379, the rears of a Mack, and the fronts of a Western Star
@LongHoodKW Well, that's gonna be a good project. One thing's for sure--I ain't gonna sell that one! What do you mean by combining the 8V71 Detroit and the 3406B Cat motor, though? And if I'm reading right, I should use the rear suspension and wheels of a Mack, the front suspension, steering assembly, and the hood of a Western Star, right? I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to building custom trucks.
@LongHoodKW It'll be interesting to see it start up when is done. What parts do i combine from the 3406B and the 8V71, though? Do you mean like the engine block itself?
Did they pour a gallon of bleach down each one of the stacks? Sound effects are from a pre series 60 Detroit but the horsepower is all 3406 CAT. Detroits all RPM no torque which is why they got 15 forward speeds not just 9. Good thing he topped the hill before the cat ran out of steam. Junior has some nice teeth. @sennahj First Fonda, now Swayze . . . if we lose Kris Kristofferson, we're all outta decent Movie Truckers.

This is one of the best parts of one of my all time favorite movies. My dad's a truck driver, I've been watching this movie practically my whole life it seems. Rest in peace Patrick Swayze!
