In fact to buy a gun even for hunting you must go to the police department, get fingerprinted and then you can apply for a permit. If you have a record of criminal behavior or mental illness then you will not get a permit. After that there is an FBI security check and then you can buy a gun. A personal handgun also requires written endorsements from at least 5 people
